More Telecom - Excessive Exit Fees on 24 Month Plan

I was with more on their 24 month plan and moved houses so naively chose to cancel instead of relocate. Now I have been hit with a $383 early termination and hardware fees.

They didn't bother emailing the last invoice and I had to go into the account to go check after I saw the direct debit.

Never had them reach out to disconnect the modem.

What are my options.

TIA.

    What are my options.

Take better care with contracts you sign in the future.

"24 month plan" = early cancellation fees. This is not a new thing.

  • Relocate is not an option? This could be cheaper fees.

  • I'm with More and couldn't remember there being a plan.

Checked today and there's no 24 month or lock in contract.

Could it just be the payout of the modem?

    What Modem did you get?

    • the welcome email definitely says its a 24 month contract

Heres the breakdown from the invoice

      Early Termination Fees $199.00 + $19.90 t
      Hardware Charges $149.95 + $15.00 t

      • OK, must be an old plan.

The current plans don't have any contracts.

        • Yep, I just checked, and they don't have any plans at the moment.

Perhaps contact them and explain to them you wish to relocate rather than cancel.

this may very well be my only option

  • If you think that’s excessive you should see my mobile phone plan early termination fee!

Did you close at address A and then sign up at address B? If that’s the case you probably have a good chance at them waiving the cancellation fee. If you cancelled at address A and signed up with another provider at address B, then I think you’ll have to pay up.

    • saw the direct debit.

      OP has already paid up

  • Termination of contracts normally incurs fees.

    • Issue here is, people don't understand the term contracts

      plural noun: contracts
      kɒntrakt/
a written or spoken agreement, especially one concerning employment, sales, or tenancy, that is intended to be enforceable by law.
