Had mine for over a year now - really liked it as I was looking for a low profile smart watch that didn't have to be charged every 3 minutes.

It lasts me about 8-10 days so I have a reminder to charge it every week and it's more than sufficient.

Note that the bluetooth music function while it works - quality is noticably worse than if using phone. So much so that I rather bring my phone along on runs now.

I would have preferred Google pay over music in hindsight but watches with gpay are significantly more expensive or a Fitbit.

You can tell the difference? I have the same watch, it sounds the same to me - I may have gone to too many music gigs though 😆

Great watch for the price, no garmin pay is probably the only downside for me after owning for a few years doing mainly distance running - like you say, a big price jump to get that feature though…

      • Yeah it was a huge difference for me not sure if it's because of the type of music - melodic edm.

    • $328 for the Vivoactive 4, with Garmin pay, if anyone is interested:

JB or OW will probably price beat.

  • Also highly recommend. Had mine a couple years and for the price I don't think there's any other running watch out there that compares. Mine maybe lasts 5 days between charges now (2.5 years old I think) - and that's doing 4-5 runs a week (maybe 30-40km) with GPS and music enabled on all. I also don't notice the difference between the watch music and phone music when using the same headphones.

FWIW, 265 has recently been announced (basically 255 with OLED), so this is technically now two generations old. As a practical matter, that mainly affects whether new features rolled out by Garmin make their way down to this unit.

Apart from OLED screens, the main new feature to launch with the 265/965 generation seems to be tracking the ratio of acute to chronic training load. This has already rolled out to, e.g., the fenix 7 series (and I like it a lot) but it's not clear which older models will be updated to support it.

    • 255 didn't seem to be stocked in most brick and mortar stores. Let's hope 265 is, so there are some deals on them. Haven't seen the 255 for less than $500 so far.

  • Can I use this for both cycling and golf? Those are my two main sports with the occasional social football game where I would want to record my heart rate.

    • For cycling I guess you will want to know if it pairs with a power meter. I believe not, but not totally sure. Golf I have no idea, but also suspect not.

      • Yeah I basically want to act like a bike computer to record my speed, cadence etc.

        Oh well.

Yes you can use it as a bike computer as it connects to all ant+ devices. I used my Fenix 6 as a bike computer until I bought a Garmin 530. Garmin sells a mount to put the watch on the handle bar.

My son has 245 and is very happy with it. Don’t know about golf.

    • Works as a cycling watch no problems.

Talks to my garmin edge. Without it it does the usual HRM,speed distance etc.

Doesn't play with power meters but I'd say that's not most cyclists that aren't roadies.

  • Love my 245 Music. Recently it has started to require a restart to actually start playing music though (takes 10 seconds). Funnily enough, I swear it plays higher quality Bluetooth audio, and louder, to my earbuds than my phone does (V30+ with a good DAC). IDK what's up there.

  • Excellent deal. This is great watch.
