Meta Quest Pro A$1,729.99 Shipped (Was $2449.99) @ Meta AU

150

Yes there is a previous Ships from Amazon US "price drop" deal for the Quest Pro, but this deal slightly cheaper for Australian stock.

Don't really know why I am posting this I am not interested in the Quest Pro and it's still too expensive for me.
But maybe someone would like to know the price drop from the US has also happened in Australia. Quest Pro price drop in AU happened on the 15th.

No price drops on the Quest 2 that I can see. One comment on the previous Quest 2 deal mentioned the 16th of March as being the price drop day for other regions but doesn't seem to be the case with Australia (maybe AU market won't see one). https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13460379/redir

Quest 3 later on this year, better ways for most VR users to spend their money than this.

    • Yeah but the Quest Pro price drop is quite dramatic so can't be ignored right.

I agree though, I think the Quest Pro was not exactly designed with consumer's in mind. I will be waiting for the Quest 3 release like I have mentioned many times before.

Pretty sure Quest 3 leaks also say it will have a pass through mode, so it's not really an exclusive feature of the Quest Pro either.

If anything else I have learned, I think Quest 2 is getting a basic hand tracking update. So you can use just your hands for certain interactions e.g. OS level/menu's and anything else that supports it. Which gives me hope Quest 3 will have hand tracking out of the box, putting it on par with the Pico 4 for that feature.

If anyone knows otherwise please feel free to correct any of the info above. I am just basing it on youtube videos as they have been coming out (so some of the info might be dated).

The quest 2 already has pass thru and has for a long time, but it's black and white and low res, also has some funky oddness where the stitching occurs between cameras.

Handtracking has also already been updated this week on mine for the V50 update, handtracking works ok to be able to press buttons with your finger, but in my limited experience has some issues still when attempting to type etc.

        • +1

Alright thanks. Here's to me hoping there will be significant improvements to both areas with the Quest 3.

    • Quest 3 has a rubbish strap though you have to buy more accessories to make it better because out of the box like all the quests before it 1 and 2 all needed extra accessories to make it conformable and actually usable.
Quest Pro on the other hand yes its 1700 bucks but its ready to go with a decent strap better controller tracking.
I have owned the oculus quest 1 and 2 when they both first came out, I am avoiding the quest 3 because the controller tracking has gotten worse, and your forced to buy the quest pro controllers to pair to it. When you add it all up with accessories and the pro controllers, your looking at all most the same cost as a quest pro. Inside out tracking is still superior but the pro controllers are close. Obviously if your not that into VR and you don't play games that demand accurate tracking like beat saber then you won't care, but this is my take on it.

      • Quest 3 + Custom Strap + Pro controllers still comes in well below the Pro, at least $400.

But I'd be looking at the Quest 3, then back over to the Quest 2's improvements since launch (and still continuing today), and realising that most of the tracking quibbles will be solved thanks to patches and AI enhancements.

        • your missing out on eyetracking which is ground breaking in VR and I think all games should implement, and you will never get quest 3 eye tracking unless its a hidden feature they didnt' tell any one about. That they will unlock later. 400 is an estimate because it will depend on how much you custom headset bad costs, with a battery or with out. If you get the offical elite strap with battery its 219 plus a custom fact plate like the silocon one for 69 place the base 799 for the quest 3 plus the pro controllers at 479 that totals 1566 so the saving in my case with official accessories from meta would be 163 bucks. Which makes you think of just getting a quest pro at that point.

          • @kungfuman: I totally agree about eyetracking long term, I just think it doesn't make enough of a difference in the case of the optics on these two headsets given their resolution and that they'll be hooked up to something like a 4070 over the next 2 years. No one in their right mind is targetting official headstraps and batteries.

Quest 3 native graphics benefits from a GPU bump, AI upscaling over time, and already has indirect foveated techniques that will improve through inference.

            • @jasswolf: have you actually tried eyetracking? using it on the psvr 2 in a game designed for it has blown me away doesn't matter where you look there is not drop in sharpness or clarity at all. just looking at something rather than moving your head is very natural and in VR it ads to the immersion. I wasn't a fan of it until I tried it in a game that really takes it to a next level. If developers use it, it will change VR for the better.

              • @kungfuman: The PSVR 2 is also benefitting from the finer detail that OLED offers in terms of contrast modulation, but yes I agree.

I think for PC VR, which winds up being the main function of the Quest 3 when you're looking for high fidelity graphics, modern mid-range gaming PCs can now handle the graphical output, particularly with DLSS.

                • @jasswolf: there is also no more "sweet spot" it doesn't matter now it adjusts by taking your eye position into account now. I think not puting eye tracking in the quest 3 is a mistake.

                  • @kungfuman: I think the only option they had to do so involved flat fee royalties that would have sent pricing to $1000. As it is, they already need to try and shave $200-$300 off this price.

                    • @jasswolf: they could have just had an option say in the 512gb model, and not have it in the 128gb model.

  • Hi mods not exactly sure why the deal is now "Long running", when price drop happened yesterday on the 15th.

I added the "Start date" as the 15th of March but that seems to have been removed.

    • The deal has been marked as "Long Running" to prevent it from being auto-expired in the future ($1729.99 is the new regular price).

Don't really know why I am posting this I am not interested in the Quest Pro and it's still too expensive for me.

Weird thing to mention - you don't need to have participated in the deal to find it value enough to share to the community.

you don't need to have participated in the deal to find it value enough to share to the community.

I was 50/50 on posting it so I guess that's why I added that. I just noticed the big price drop on Quest Pro after checking the Quest 2 prices that were meant to drop on the 16th.
I do like to think users here post deals on "good products" though not just absolute dog shit because it's cheap (I do remember a few deals on ozbargain being called out for this which is good e.g. "low quality" or "landfill" like the beer bong thing and cheap solar lights). IMO part of the bargain is "value" therefore a product should be made well, last as well as being good value for money.
e.g. this is an extreme example, but a product could be $100 but if it has issues and breaks every year you will be paying $300 after 3 years (ongoing). Or you could buy something quality for $300 to begin with and have it last 5+ years. Meaning you save money.

I have also shared my thoughts on previous deals about avoiding the Quest 2 in 2023 and waiting for the Quest 3 because that should be the best value proposition. So that plays a part in it to. As posting this deal could be seen as me recommending the Quest Pro over everything else. But I still believe the Quest 3 will be the best value for consumers.

    • Wow I'm surprised this is a controversial take. Dunno if my message was lost in translation or what.

  • The quest line is all about portability, right?

Does this have on board processing and no base stations?

    • I have no idea sorry since I have zero interest in the Quest Pro.

      • +5

        hahaha i love this thread

    • +1

Quick google search tells me Quest Pro is indeed a standalone headset like the other Quest headsets.

So battery powered, no cables and portable. Is that what you were asking?

      • Yeah, it seemed like with all the talk about augmented reality that it would use a lot of battery to process if it was all internal but it seems like it is anyway.

Unless the quality is reduced while unplugged from a PC like the quest 1 and 2 are

        • It's all internal - but the battery life is pretty terrible. Will be needing regular charging if not plugged in while using.

  • +1

Just a quick spec I thought would be good to know.

    Quest Pro = 1,800 × 1,920 pixels per eye
Quest 3 (Release estimate: October 2023) = 2,064 by 2,208 pixels per eye

    • +7

So why not just buy the PS VR2 for less than half the price?

      • +1

Not really half the price, when you also need a PS5

        • But assuming you have a PS5, is there a generational leap between PS VR2 and Quest 3, or anything else, that would justify the latter’s price?

          • @JeBs:

But assuming you have a PS5,

That is a big thing to assume 🙂. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a PS5 or a "Gaming PC".
I don't have any experience with gaming at all, so the Quest 3 will be my first gaming unit as well as standalone VR headset.
I will be using the Quest 3 on it's own and Meta has announced a lot of games that will be added to the store on a similar timeline to/or following the Quest 3 release (I think 40+ were announced) so that should give me enough use of it for awhile.

I am going to be getting Quest 3 by the way. So it should be in a similar price range to PSVR2. (my comment above shows Quest 3 resolution is better than Quest Pro)

I know a lot of comments on previous deals also comparing PSVR2 to Quest 3 and so I will repeat what I commented before.
PSVR2 requires a PS5 for it to even work. While with a Quest 3 "a Gaming PC to run Steam VR games" is optional, so you get a fully functioning VR headset and catalogue for the price you pay for it.
Because of this in terms of what you get even if you already have a PS5, buying PSVR2 vs buying the Quest 3 the Quest 3 looks like better value for me because for the price the PSVR2 is only the non functioning headset.
Some other points, Quest 3 resolution per eye is higher than PSVR2 but PS5 processing power is obviously going to be much better than Quest 3's portable SOC.

            • +2

@harshbdmmaster718: PS5 + PSVR2 is still cheaper than the Quest Pro.

              • +1

@pformag: Ok I am done in the comments here. It's clear in my comments that I am and always have recommended waiting for the Quest 3, but everyone in the comments here keeps thinking I am recommending the Quest Pro.

I thought it was obvious in the resolution numbers that the 2nd Quest 3 resolution is the higher number. I think I have already said everything I know that might be useful.
I do not think the Quest Pro for $1700 is good value compared to a PSVR2 and PS5 combo.

              • @pformag: That is true, although I would say that the cost and availability of games would be a con regarding PSVR2.

          • +1

            @JeBs: Porn

            • @ThymeTraveller: Oh my.. I worship it. But how much better could it be in VR relative to a flat screen? It’s not like a driving or flying simulator which allows for a significantly higher lever of immersion.

          • @JeBs: i have the ps vr2 I havent' played it since I got it at launch. played it for about 2 hours. I am not that interested in it because most of my vr libary is in pcvr, and beat saber doesnt' let me put custom songs on the ps5.

    • your missing the most important part the quest pro controllers and the tracking on the quest pro is night and day far more superior to the quest 3s crappy tracking. plus your getting eye tracking in the quest pro your not getting that in the quest 3 so the resolution isn't that relevant in this case.

  • +1

    POS LCD screen.

Quest 1 was OLED like the new PSVR2.

    Anything less is pointless.

    • The Rift was Oled as well (first tethered pc headset), and guess what? it was a downside. They quickly found out that when true 0 black was used, any colours above that would ghost badly. So they clipped colours to avoid getting to pure black, getting rid of a big part of having a oled in the first place.

    • quest 1 only did 60hz to lol

  • A reasonable discount, and should have been the original launch price TBH. I was thinking the launch price would have been like this, and was ready to pull the trigger on it. The fact is though you gain so little and in some cases lose out (ergonomics of it being so heavy even with balancing, battery life in some cases is a hit). I'm sort of glad it stopped me wanting to impulse buy it. Then the use case of the colour pass through is so little if you wanted to use it for gaming.

The made up use case of using it as a office monitor screen isn't viable due to the resolution not being enough for comfortable text reading as well.

Look like there are a lot of useless people in society instead of being realistic use these kinds of useless products and kill their time inside the four walls. All the best to them.

  • I would wait for Quest 3. Q3 might be better than Quest pro in some ways. If you are not playing VRchat and doesn't care about your facial expression on your avatar, just skip the pro and wait for Q3. It will be way cheaper and similar performance with Pro.

  • And you need a pc with that?

  • Now available on Amazon for anyone following.
