Been Waiting 5 Months for 2019 Subaru Forester Parts

Hi everyone,

My FY19 Subaru Forester suffered fuel contamination back in Nov 2022, towed it to the mechanic and we've been waiting for the fuel pump ever since. Has anyone else noticed a delay in Subaru parts or parts in general?

Contacted Subaru and they say the parts are in transit and there's not much they can do. I honestly can't recommend anyone buy a Subaru if this is isolated to Subaru.

Cheers
K

    Subaru mechanic or private mechanic?

I suffered the same issue a few years back, and had to replace the turbo, catalytic converter and more.

Why not use aftermarket part? I assume your car might be out of warranty.

    Just get used parts then.

  • A lot of manufactures are having supply issues of parts.Vehicles that have been involved in crashes seem to be effected quite a but also.

While lead times on some OEM parts can be long, 5 months for a fuel pump which is a pretty common item to replace seems over the top.

Has your mechanic offered up any other options other than the genuine Subaru one? A quick eBay search shows plenty of options available.

I had to wait six months for a Ford ranger that had fuel contamination to have its entire fuel system replaced cost 10k part supply is a pain in the ass, I've also waited 4 months so far for a ute tray for another ranger for insurance.

Your not the only one buddy..

Have you considered importing the part from overseas yourself?
    Somewhere such as
    https://www.subaruparts.com/search?search_str=fuel%20pump&ma…

  • Thanks everyone. The fix was covered by my insurer so it's a private mechanic (Hitech Automotive in Mascot, NSW) and that means they'll have to get new parts. I've seen the order confirmation from Subaru parts in Auburn and I'll speak to Hitech about ordering the parts outside of Subaru AU but i'm guessing the insurer might not let them. Sigh.

The insurer should be fine with ordering non OEM parts but will probably require you to sign a waiver or something ie that the insurer's warranty on the part wont apply. So if the part goes cactus that is on you. Potentially if the part has been ordered and paid for then they might say its too late; but if there is such a short supply then it might be able to be diverted somewhere else

Makes me want to tick the 'hire car' option on my policy; I can survive a month without a car (we have 2) but 4 or 5 months and it becomes much more of an issue

Definitely use OEM parts if insurance is paying for it.

Who's at fault? You or the fuel supplier?

  • +2

where did the dirty fuel come from?
    .

  • With Nissan, parts went from air freight ex japan to sea freight. This pushed lead times up significantly, 3-6 months wasn't uncommon. Add in backlogs on orders being processed it was a bit of a joke really

But the other option is air freight from other sellers, which obviously adds to cost. This is assuming the part is even in stock too!

    Contact Dom Toretto.

He'll get it overnight from Japan for you.

      not unless you mention FAMILY

      • Everyone's family.

Even the guy who wants to kill you is family.

  • Endless subies getting scrapped.
It is a pity but in QLD they are ditched all over.
If the fuel supplier was at fault ask for a loaner!

Put your VIN in this link to find your pump. https://partsouq.com/en/catalog/genuine/locate?c=Subaru

Don't be put of where the parts come from. PartSouq are a reputable company. I and many others in our club use them. Not for Subaru but another brand. Parts usually arrive in a week and are OEM.

They do many brands of vehicles.

First time I've seen a car dated by financial year.

  • That’s ridiculous. I’ll bet you could have a wrecker part in a few days or an aftermarket ‘better’ one in a week. Regardless of insurance, they just need to get it done. I’m guessing you aren’t runni mg up a bill on a hire car while waiting? That’d hurry them up.
