  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/acer-swift-x good cheaper alternative if after something light and smaller

Slight downgrade on CPU, GPU and screen

Also supports USB-PD, this one may not charge properly on PD if it supports it given 130w standard charger

    • Unfortunately it's no longer at that price point.

      • Goes on sale every few months

  • Can you do some gaming on it?

  • In 2023, should there be something that I need to be aware of if I buy AMD vs Intel? Driver support if I install Linux on this for example?

I am looking more at ThinkPad E14 Gen 4 AMD Ryzen™ 7 5825U which currently is $1,089 which makes it $100 cheaper than last deal.

I am guessing the laptop posted in this deal has more bang for the dollar compared to the ThinkPad above?

    • AMD actually has pretty good support on Linux. If you go to the Lenovo site you will notice that they provide an AMD based laptop with Linux instead of Windows. Considering that AMD has the fastest x86 CPU for servers, support has significantly grown in the last 10 years for non Windows based operating systems.

      • Thanks @shellshocked.

How about heat? Will either processor has tendency to handle heat poorly and will make it noisier with the fan runs constantly?

        • Currently Intel 12th and 13th gen have the issue with having high TDPs. The tables have turned in the last 4 or 5 years where AMD is now viewed as being the most power efficient and having the best performance per watt. Unfortunately Intel has dropped the ball and is relying on marketing to make themselves look better.

  • How is the quality of ideapad, my understanding this is the lowest quality of lenovo range. But would this be ok for office work, multiple excel, chrome tabs for Xero
    Thank you

    • +1

The Pro is different to the regular IdeaPad. It's only really similar in name only for English speaking markets. For example the regular IdeaPad will have a plastic chassis whilst the Pro will have a metal chassis.

      • Are you able to share some sources and reviews on IdeaPad pro vs Ideapad?

Just bought this last week for $1699 at JB Hifi, replacing a 6-year-old X1 Carbon Gen 6. Both great laptops, but having seen the Carbon Gen 10 in person I opted for this. Great laptop for the video editing, photo processing, and coding that I do.

  • Deal expiried? coming up as $2,299.00 for me.
