Just placed an order at my local Coles - try a different store

      • +1

        Thanks bud!

Tried again, but switched stores and it worked!

Got 2 for 220, which is a damn bargain.

  • +4

Spend $250 and you can get another $20 off with TAKE20

  • +7

If you just want one, the 20% off takes it down to $116 and then add the code CLICK10 to take it down to $108!!

    • +1

If you need 2 then just place 2 orders, much cheaper that way.

    • +2

I tried CLICK10 and it says I’m not qualified.

    • +1

I am getting a "Not yet qualified" for CLICK10, is the minimum spend $100 or $150?

      • Hmmm, got it set to click and collect?

        • Yup, click and collect. Hmm, we're both in VIC, so it should be same T&Cs.

          • @Mikeer: Damn yeah dunno why. I did it yesterday successfully!

    • CLICK10 says I dont qualify so cheaper slightly to buy 2 delivered as can't find stock locally anyway

  • +4

    sigh QLD.

  • As you said OP. I mean I probably wouldn't say overpriced given its all relative but in the world as we stand still decent value for a great whisky.

  • link doesn't seem to be working for me. did the remove it??
    * worked just needed to select different stores

  • +1

Showing as temporarily unavailable for me - and no special pricing for 2 bottles - simply $145 each. Maroubra Junction NSW. Coles liquor generally useless. Don't think I've ever managed to actually buy anything worthwhile from them.

    • Change stores until you find some available and the discounts aren’t applied until checkout

      • Aha. Thanks. Discounts applied at checkout. Actually charging me $230 for 2. But $108 option above looks a better deal. Will give that a go - one on my account, one on my wife's. Approaching a more reasonable price for Laga.

        • You don't have to use different accounts, use the same account and select the same pick up time.

    • Switched to Randwick (and pita of having to select a collection slot and no bagging option each time). $290 for 2 as well. All too bloody hard with Coles liquor (aka Liquorland - which is also useless).

  • You have to keep changing stores until you find one with it in stock for click and collect - don’t give up!

  • +1

Got it for $220 with the code TAKE20 and also 7% cashrewards on top of it. Thanks op :)

    • +1

      I did the Same. Thanks

Everyone, please try the 8yo if you can find it on sale. Laga 16 is not that great. Or the yearly release of the 12yo if you can get it for under $200

    • +8

Those are fighting words, buddy. You better apologies for your blasphemy.

      • +1

Or get a Elements of Islay Lg12: https://goodwoodcellars.com.au/products/elements-of-islay-lg…

I like Lagavulin, but the 16 is the worst expression imo

        fite me irl

        • +3

700 ml Laga 16 for $108 or 500 ml of this for $224. Your tastes are expensive. I'm pleased I really like Laga 16 - and have for years - and buying my first bottle since the price escalated crazily about a year or more ago - so I'm really happy with this deal.

          • @belbo: have you tried the 8?

          • @belbo: I loved the laga 16, until my most recent bottle, feel like it has gone downhill.

            • @Daff: Disappointing to hear. Will have to see what I think. 8yo is around $110 or more everywhere, so might as well get the 16 on this deal atm and try 8yo next time if 16yo not great anymore.

        • +1

I'd rather drink with you IRL than fight you ;)

But +1 to the 8yo (I have the first release)… the 16yo has gone downhill past few years.

And +1 to the Annual CS releases.

          • @kickling: It's nice to see people who knows what's up. I bet half the people drink Laga 16 because of a TV show.

I went to S&W and tried 6-7 whiskies include a Cadenhead 18 Tennessee, a 1990 second-fill sherry Bowmore and a Blackadder Statement Ben Nevis 25 which was the best Ben Nevis I've ever had, and I own a lot and have tried a lot of Ben Nevis. The owner just kept saying, "you have to try this" but I had to tap out because I was driving. We're going to raid my stash when he's free, you can tag along.

            • @rosebank:

It's nice to see people who knows what's up. I bet half the people drink Laga 16 because of a TV show.

I drink (drank) it because I tried it and like it and I recognise the 8 and 12yo versions are just a sales trick to prop up the (idiotic) price of the 16 and so, now, instead of getting used I wont have a bar of any of them.

              • @the discombobulated panda: The 12 has been around forever. The 8 was a new expression introduced in 2016 as a special edition for the 200th anniversary, and they kept it in the core range because people liked it. Afaik, Lagavulin had only ONE expression in their range, the 16, not including the annual 12s. Then they added ONE in 2016 to make it 2. The price of the 16 has always been idioitic, it was okay at ~$70, and I used to buy occassionally. Now I don't buy any Lagavulin. I have a few old 16s, plenty of 12s up to 2014 and the 25. And independent bottlings.

As a few people have said in this post, Laga 16 has gone downhill; I haven't had it in years, but I wouldn't touch the 16 even at $100.

                • @rosebank: I first tried it, I think, at the suggestion of my boss at the time. It was $50 a bottle and was LOVELY. My first real whiskey and it was the bomb.

It HAD gone downhill since then. I stopped buying ages back (found other loves ;) but the flavour that made it it had decreased and gone a long while back.

I think now I wanted to buy it due to the memory of it from a long while ago and in the hope that they managed to produce that flavour again and so I was willing to blow $240 as a last fling into the wind.

                  Alas it appears not. :(

  • For me, this tastes terrible. I can only compare the disgust to tequila.

    • +1

You had better not try Mezcal then - or Laphroaig. Perhaps just stick to water.

      • Probably also stay away from Caol Ila too if staying away from Mezcal…

        • What is Caol Ila like? Have never tried it although looking for an alternative to Laga 16 since the price craziness - so am happy with this deal - and also given I like JW Green which contains it.

          • @belbo: Caol ila 12 would probably be my go-to "get everywhere" Islay. It has a rubbery medicinal peat smoke to it. But well balanced by vanilla sweetness from the ex bourbon casks. Readily available at most bars if you want to try before you buy.

Laga 8 as @rosebank mentions is also good value. A bit more prickly due to the younger age but it brings a bigger flavour and viscosity due to being 48%.(Edit : sorry previously removed line about sherry, got confused with Ardbeg 5)

Once you venture into independent bottling and cask strength, I don't think you'll go back to these types of everyday drams though…

            • @kickling: Cheers. Good idea to give it a go at a bar. The only Islay I really don't like so far is Ardbeg. It has a metallic sort of taste to me. What do you recommend in terms of independent bottling and cask strength drams?

              • @belbo: Maybe start out with some non cask strength independent bottlings. Brands like Cadenheads, Gordon Mcphail and Carn Mor are a good base to start from. They take the spirit and finish it in their own way, making it a bit unique.

These brands also carry some cask strength. But maybe look at getting the annual Diageo releases. The 2021 series might be on clearance now. I know my local has the Talisker 8yo cask strength for only $100.

Simon runs this whisky website. Lots to choose from.

            • @kickling: Yeah, most of my purchases these days are IBs or new distilleries

              • @rosebank: Yup. Once my OB common collection is gone I'll only have IB left and some quality OB.

Aha. Now we're cooking. 1 Laga 16 at effectively $108, plus 1 case Peroni at $51 plus 1 case Kirin Ichiban at $56 makes face value of $252. With TAKE10 and TAKE20 ($30 off) and 20% (of $222 = $44.4 off) makes it $177.60 in total, ie effectively $34 and $36 for Peroni and Kirin respectively. Winner. Thanks OP. Worth the effort this time - including driving to the store that has it in stock, which isn't my favourite or nearest.

    • I couldn't get TAKE10 to work for some reason.

      • Ooops. It is actually CLICK10 and TAKE20. CLICK10 applied automatically for me.

  • +3

If you buy singly you get 1 for $108 and the subsequent ones for $116 - even if using the same account. Better deals then per the deal title. Suggest updating the title (?).

    • If you can find stock, I found it easier to just do delivery and buy 2

  • +3

    Ron Swanson approves this deal.

  • It came up at $220 delivered for me after adding 2 bottles then the promo code TAKE20 (-$20)

  • Coles website is pure trash.

"Liquor is not available for delivery or collection at this time"

But it wont give me a list of times it can be done for. Amazing how a multi-billion dollar company can't get something as simple as this anywhere near right.

    • I think its from 12pm onwards as the liquor department wouldnt be open when the pickers were picking the orders.

      • I gave up and closed all the tabs. Snog em. I'll keep my brain cells and money.

  • Sorry, we couldn't find the page you're looking for

    • +1

Don't follow the link in this post. Just go to the Coles online website.

  • Unavailable

    • +1

Stock availability varies per store. I just checked Coles Macquarie Centre - still available for click and collect.

      • Thanks.. just got one at Macquarie as u had suggested cheers

  • +1

If it's showing unavailable it's probably just your store that has sold out. Check out other stores close to home for click and collect.

  • Purchased and received confirmation email yesterday, but received below email says the order has been canceled this morning. Anyone had the same experience?

“This is a courtesy notification that your Coles online order has been cancelled.

Not sure why you have received this? Please contact our customer care team on 1800 455 400, or you can also text us on 0429 989 656 and we'll respond within 30 minutes during opening hours . We are always happy to help.”

    • They musn't have stock. Check stocks at a local store and do click and collect.

      • Yes I did. I found a store that “seemed” to have stock, placed order and got confirmation yesterday. But they just cancelled it this morning.

I mean if there’s something wrong with their ordering system, they should fix it and process the order, not just canceling the order. Very poor customer service.

        • Problem is that if your order is booked for the following day the people who pick the orders won't pick your order until a few hours before your pick up/delivery is due. If someone else has ordered it for a prior delivery or click and collect then the stock won't be there for your order.

    • Same here, they cancelled my order. Ridiculous

    • Bloody useless Coles/Liquorland as usual. I ordered the Laga and a case each of Peroni and Kirin Ichiban. Got this message (no Kirin) -

"Unfortunately, some of the items you ordered are unavailable. We apologise for this inconvenience.

Where items are unavailable you have not been charged. Where we have substituted an item, we’ve charged you at the lowest price. Your order has now been finalised with the below item changes and can’t be changed.

                                                                                                Qty ordered Qty supplied

Item you ordered Kirin Ichiban Bottle 330mL 24 Pack 1 0
Item we supplied No substitute available

For future orders you can manage any product substitutions on the final checkout page."

Full amount still reflecting as pending on my credit card. I'm not looking forward to the anticipated confusion, inconvenience, lack of training, incompetence and drama I've encountered previously with anything out of the ordinary at Liquorland - and their having to figure out how much to refund when I go and pick it up - given the multiple discounts involved - and removing the Kirin will drop it below the $250. So nice of them to let me know in future I should presumably nominate substitutions for every product I order - or somehow manage a substitution without being told one is required.

      • You can check your invoice online. You won't lose the discount. When my Kilkenny was out of stock, they didn't remove my discount so I ended up better off.

What I find is for some reason they can't work out how to adjust the payment and only charge the cc the new amount due. I normally have both amounts on my credit card for about 5 days when the higher amount drops off. Woolworths on the other hand seem to manage that brilliantly and always just change the initial amount so I'm not charged twice.

You can't do substitutes for any alcohol.

        • Thanks. Good to know about no subs for booze. Dramas picking it up - told to go between Coles and Liquorland to pick it up, then took ages for Coles to get it from the back, then 10 minutes more for them to figure out how much I'd been charged and show it to me on their system - as the purchase seems to have been reveresed completely from my credit card and isn't showing at all. Turns out they reversed the Kirin at the full face price - which is also on the invoice, as you say (although the order details still show the original amount) - and I am better off. So the total across my 2 orders comprising 2 bottles of Laga 16 and a case of Peroni, after discounts, is $237.60, which equates to $101 each for the Laga and $36 for the Peroni (apportioned on full marked prices). Still not sure if the extra saving was worth the drama of spending about half an hour collecting the order and getting confirmation of what I'd actually been charged. Plus, when I logged into Coles Online this morning it tells me it is copying over my details to a new account - and then I have to re-link my Flybuys to the account. What the hell is that all about? Coles needs to sort out its act.

  • Cracking deal. $220 for 2 here stacking codes
