Domino's New Pepperoni - Crunching The Numbers

For those who are dying to know, I indulged in a pizza that flaunts not one, but TWO kinds of pepperoni.

The newfangled Pepperoni Deluxe pie boasts a whopping 100 slices of a diminutive & puny pepperoni, which I measured to be a paltry 2.5cm. In stark contrast, the standard pepperoni clocks in at a robust 4cm (check out the pics).

As you probably already know, the area of a pepperoni slice is directly proportional to the square of its diameter. Crunching the numbers, we find that 2.5^2 = 6.25, whereas 4^2 =16.

Dividing the two figures, we get 16/6.25 = 2.56. So, the standard pepperoni is 2.56 times larger in area than the newfangled pepperoni.

All this boils down to one simple fact - a pizza with 100/2.56 = 39 pieces of regular pepperoni is equivalent to a Pepperoni Deluxe pizza.

Peace.

    Doing gods work here!

  • The American pepperoni they had was good but in all standard pizzas they were in were put on top of the pizza which cooked it too much and lost the flavour, the pieces were much bigger in diameter as well.

But all the pepperoni pieces at Domino's are too thin

laughing nervously. - yeah. of course, mate - who doesn’t know that.

      It's called the Pepperoni Principle.

i wish i had this much time on my hands.

You wish you possed that kind of genius op has. A keen curiously for life.

      Interested.

Dominoe's profitability is going backwards faster than their share price. They have got to try something, anything to make more profits.
Starting point is to deceptively rip off their customers.

  • +8

You neglected to account for the pepperoni thickness which, from a sample size of 1, I think the new pepperoni is thinner than the standard, so results in an even lower ratio.

  • But 2 + 2 = 6.

So that throws everything you just said out the window.

  • r/they did the math

  • Which as more pep surface area though?

Wonder which is better too. The idea of smaller pepperoni is nice so you get a bit in every bite

  • You need to get out more

As you probably already know, the area of a pepperoni slice is directly proportional to the square of its diameter.

I don't think anyone knows that as the area of a circle is directly proportional to the square of its radius.

    • oof yeah facepalm moment there

    • +2

The square of the diameter and radius are both proportional to the area. You just have different constants for both to make the equality. Their reasoning is right.

It's not the size of the Pepperoni that matters. It's what you do with it. With a metal ruler.

  • There is no way there is 39 slices of pepperoni on a domino’s pizza, lucky to have the equivalent of 39 of the 2.5cms slices.

  • Love how your brain works. Cudos.

  • The of a circle is determined using π x r2. Using diameter will give an answer that's bigger.

    • Yes or you COULD use half the diameter as it is simply twice the radius.
Which means our hero is still correct in principle.

      π x (D/2)^2

  • I bought both over the weekend.

Yeah either there is new bad staff at my local Domino's or both were bad.

I tried the pepperoni deluxe with the in app wallet coupon code when it first came out and it was nice so my local is just hit and miss.
