26% off Tesla Model 3 & Y 7.2” Rear Entertainment & Climate Control Display US$347.80 / A$516 Delivered @ Satonic

80
MODELYAUSF

Incredible price on this. Unfortunately not a deal for everyone as it’s a niche product but still a very solid deal. The new 7.2” android rear screens for Model 3 and Y are just starting to drop from the usual retailers such as hansshow. Satonic are offering a very generous 26% off for the product launch for a limited time making it over $120 cheaper than Hansshow.

The new 7.2” head unit now allows for bluetooth audio connection to headphones which was a major gripe with the 7”, a higher resolution IPS display, 4gb of ram and a bunch of other features. The interface and hardware design mirror the model S and X displays.

The unit is very positively reviewed here and here.

        It’s not

      • tesla bad

    • Flex without flexing chump

Id totally fart on elon if u held him down.

  • I wonder how many ozbargain members own tesla. I dont think its a bargain in current prices but if many members are buying it I might be missing something.

    • +5

As of now there are 279 referral codes recorded on ozb. So at least there are 279 of them amongst us.

    • +1

Ozbargainers would get a Tesla, get it novated leased so that it is from pre-tax salary, then claim every single deduction possible on income tax. Then use the car for Uber as well, turning it into an income generating asset/liability, and then further writing down the depreciation. Finally, they will find someway to sell it for a higher than normal price.

      • +1

Err if it's a novated lease, it can't be depreciated…

I was spending about $8k on petrol a year, then bought a model 3, with charging using my solar and the free chargers around here, I am spending basically zero now. So across about 13 years, it's a free car……… How is that not a bargain?

      • +5

You could have bought a Yaris and save $30k with the excess funds for petrol for the rest of life of the car.

        • +3

you could have just bought a bike and save all of that BS as well as going to the mechanic or the nsw ripoff slip every year…

      • +1

That scenario has a few flaws. It do not include the price of the solar panel or take into consideration if the free chargers will be around for 13 years. It also do not include any repair maintenance you might have for the car, solar panal , battery etc during that time. I recently saw a video review of the new corolla hybrid and the reviewers mention its cheaper to run than electric cars based on current electricity and gas price if you have to buy electricity from the grid.

idk about corollas but i have the camry hyrbid (still driving it) on that 0% loan interest deal back then… i can tell you that the amount of BS you have to put up with when going to servicing is probably going to out cost and BS on whatever 'maintenance' on an EV, any EV.

people pretend that there are no consumables for ICE cars when comparing costs and just look at the fuel.

the amount of 'upsell' as well. the place i go to for servicing used to be good, but recent years they've tried to replace anything under $150 (eg bulbs) and claim that they are not working. caught them out twice because i change my own. also the labour costs to drain / 'flush' whatever BS they try to get you to do. not to mention the 'injector cleaning' and 'wheel alignment' being pushed to people who don't know better.

i had enough, if you love ICE cars, go ahead. I'm getting an EV that will have less of those BS an ICE car owner will have..

          • @slowmo: I agree with you on the maintenance bit for sure but i am not sure if the savings on maintenance will cover the depreciation on a tesla comapred to a corolla hybrid. My partner got the corolla hybrid for 34k last year and we are getting around 4.1L/ 100km and I think we will be able to sell it for 20- 25k in 3 years as we dont drive that much. Where the tesla by just being a more expensive car will depreciate much more probably. Maybe its not a fair comparison to compare a tesla with corolla but i am purely comparing on cost of running and ownership and unless the depreciation is similar a corolla hybrid will come on top i think. Also tesla will also. Eed the wheel balancing and light replacement etc and some say more expensive tyres quicker for being heavy. Interested to hear from a long term tesla owner.

            • @Safoan: i got my camry hybrid HL for 40k (0% interest loan) ;) and i don't think it will do the fuel consumption on what it stated, and i am anal about fuel consumption in my cars way before i had the hybrid. all i can say if you intend to plot your FC in a linear graph, you are going to be disappointed.

as for resale prices, that's another variable.

all i can say is, because you just got your car relatively new, and you should be on some fixed servicing schedule, you won't get most of the BS until you hit year 4.

all cars depreciate, but you should know some cars don't do badly. I'm not referring just to teslas as an EV (i thought i was pretty clear that i said any EV), even within the hybrid range, the prius holds value a lot more than corollas. so if you think you can get a 20k resale for a 4 year old car, you'd be disappointed.

toyota hybrids specifically have a 8year battery warranty. it's not immured to the battery characteristics. that said, i'm not here to say your purchase is bad, nothing to be gained for me.

if you don't drive much, there are far cheaper cars. I'd argue getting the ones like greatwall or korean ones would be cheaper. an EV right now is way above most people's budget if they don't have motivation to get an EV, and that's ok.

When the prius first arrived, there was a high price tag and people are talking the same talking points : "why hybrid when i can have a normal cheaper non-hybrid" "hybrids have complex electronics, hard to find mechs to service" "hybrids are greenwashing carbon footprint" "hybrids can't do X where my non-hybrids can do X" "i get better resale with my non-hybrid ".

people are inherently resistant to change and new tech.

heard it all before. get what you like, enjoy the car.

              • @slowmo: Hmm. I agree with most of what you are saying but not the part about corolla relasale value. Just found a 4 year old car my model and its asking for the same price as what I paid new

Check out this 2018 Toyota Corolla SX Hybrid Auto.
                https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2018-toyota-corolla…

I would have bought an ev if it same price as the corolla and made by reliable brand. But the depreciation of tesla or other ev will be mich more just because they are expensive cars to begin with. For instance if my car looses 50% value in 5 years thats 17k loss. But if a tesla looses 50%value in 5 years thats almost 40k loss. So you have to save enough on fuel to justify on the extra 13k loss in depreciation and i dont think its possible based on how close they are in terms of running cost. It is the same reason i will not buy a 80k lexus hybrid which will depreciate much more than a corolla .

                • @Safoan: just to say, not trying to convince you otherwise.

to me, you are comparing oranges and apples. cars are very subjective and just by emissions in the garage alone and not having to waste my time to queue up for fuel runs (on top of all the other things i've said) are priceless to me.

when it comes to figures, you are predicting future value with past history. i'm not going to go down that train of thought.

there are many ways you can make the numbers work out better/worse.

        • +1

If you do the calculations for actual dollar per km for both cars (assuming the hybrid does 5L/100km in the city), they come out the same, or the EV comes out slightly ahead, even at a $0.40/kWh electricity cost.

          • @Sleepycat3: my current cost is around high 0.20-ish/kWh, not having to smell petrol in the garage in the morning is probably priceless.

from experience, my hybrid suffers when stuck in a slow moving traffic as the battery is quickly drained, and the motor will keep kicking in to 'charge' the battery. there is a speed and time 'minimum' to operate at to get good FC, from experience it suffers when you are stuck at under 10kph for over 15mins.

      • $152/week in petrol? Seems excessive…are you driving a RAM?

  • Those AC vents look tiny, will they still work?

    • Yes they’ve redesigned the duct for the smaller vents.
