Can these be used with a pc

    • They can if you manage to track down an Xbox wireless adapter, which are hard to come by lately

      • Even if you do, my understanding is that it's only stereo anyways?

        • +3

All headphones are stereo, they literally have 2 speakers. Everything else is software and marketing. If you have Dolby Atmos for headphones on windows there's no reason why it wouldn't work on this or any other headphone.

          • @El Chyeah: Not entirely accurate (though not inaccurate either). Yes they have two “speakers” but speakers can contain multiple drivers. The true surround sound headphones have multiple drivers in an array that conforms to the X.1 spec they mimic.

            • @beatsntoons: No modern wireless gaming headsets follow this spec. In fact, I don't know of any modern wired headphones following this either (having true hardware surround sound) but am happy to be corrected as I wouldn't mind a pair.

              • @El Chyeah: Wireless? Don't know. But there are indeed gaming headsets that use multiple drivers. Here's one
                https://www.asus.com/au/accessories/headsets-and-audio/asus-…

Multiple driver headphones that give true surround sound have been a thing for over 15 years (I had a set in the UK when I lived there 2003-2009, trying to find what they were!)

                • @beatsntoons: That example was released in 2017 and no one seems to stock it anymore.

                  • @El Chyeah: Feel free to find some for yourself!

                    • @beatsntoons: As I already said, I don't believe they exist. You are the one who claimed otherwise

                      • @El Chyeah: I literally showed you one that does and then you say they don't exist.. Yikes.. If I said the sun exists on a cloudy day would you doubt that too?
That it is not on sale, not my problem. The technology exists and has for years. You can create whatever fantasy world you want off the back of that.

                        • @beatsntoons: I clearly wrote modern headphones and your response is a model released almost a decade ago that is no longer made, so no you didn't show a modern pair and I stand by the statement that no modern true surround sound headphones seem to exist.

It's like if I interjected on an iPhone ozbargain post saying there are indeed iPhones with a headphone jack after someone commented saying there wasn't any modern iPhone with a headphone jack but they wouldn't mind buying one. Sure they used to make them, but they don't anymore so it is not an accurate statement.

                          • @El Chyeah: 2017 is almost a decade ago? 6 years 10 months. Closer to 5 years. That's not modern?

Here's another one, for sale. Took me all of 2 minutes to find this with a basic google.
                            https://www.techbuy.com.au/p/402030/PC_GAMING_PRODUCTS_GAMIN…

But you do you. You've already made your mind up.

                            • @beatsntoons: Those are also from 2016 and no longer available…

There's a reason nobody makes headphones with multiple surround speakers any more - they don't really work when the earpiece is clamped onto your head (the sound can't really hit your ear from different directions like a surround speaker system can) and there are algorithms like Dolby Headphone to produce the same effect with just the two speakers.

In the early 2000s the multiple-speaker headphones were common, but they've been replaced with software solutions today.

                              • @Nom: Yep, agreed that software is better. That's what I use right now.
The point of this thread was that I was and am saying the technology exists for physical separation of audio spaces via multiple drivers. Then it went off onto a tangent.

                                • -1

@beatsntoons: The point of this thread, like everything on ozbargain, is buying things that are available, not going on about old tech that you could purchase in the past. You took it onto your own weird tangent

                            • @beatsntoons: 2015 headphones on "backorder", meaning they will never actually send them lol. Also yes in tech that is not modern

            • @beatsntoons: I fail to see how a sound which only comes from 2 speakers is any thing but stereo. You can't turn two speakers into a real surround speaker set no matter how many drivers you place into a speaker. You can only have fake surround from two speakers no matter what. So those headphones which you are referring to is not real surround but it's faked.

Real surround should be like 5 or 7 speakers in a real surround placed in various places.

              • @hollykryten: I think you're mixing "speaker" with "driver".. speakers are just a cabinet with audio sources inside. Whether that's on your head or in your room. The sound comes from the driver. For room speakers, it's not an issue that comes up because most speaker boxes just contain the one driver (or a secondary tweeter and/or sub). You're right that on headphones, it's just two "speaker" cabinets, but surround sound is created by audio sources (not necessarily "speakers") placed at multiple spots around your ears. That can be done with physical speakers in your room, or multiple drivers in your headphones.

    • They have bluetooth as well as xbox, so you can use that to connect to pc.

      • While this is possible, really don't recommend ever using a gaming headset over bluetooth while gaming. When the microphone is engaged Bluetooth headsets swap to a hands-free profile and all your audio will be mono, low bitrate and generally sound bad. This is a current limitation for all Bluetooth headsets.
