How Much Electricity Do You Use a Month?

I'm curious to know how much electricity you use in a month. It's interesting to compare and see how different households use electricity differently.

Do you have a pool, electric stove, electric hot water, aircon?

I have a pool, electric stove, electric hot water, aircon and use 45kWh a day.

  • Well, I'm no expert but that feels like quite a lot to me.
My average is about 30kw per day for a family of 6 with a large pool, but I do have rooftop solar, so that helps a bit.
The annoying thing is on the days when I export far more than I use, I still pay because of the relative tariffs.

    • if you're not using electricity for hot water then his number is not much a lot compared to yours, that difference can easily be attributed to the hot water tank. In fact I'd be surprised if your hot water requirement alone is included in that number.

      • instant gas hot water - so maybe that's it.

  • Pool
    1hp Solar heating pump
Ducted aircon with 8 outlets in a 350 sqmt house
    6kWh solar panels.
Net usage (after solar feed in) is about 1,000 kWh a month

      What's the consumption?

  • Family of 4, no pool, no gas, induction cooking, heat pump HWS, reverse cycle AC in main living area and in lounge, 9.5kW solar PV.

    Bill period: 14 Feb 2023 to 13 Mar 2023 (28 days)
    Average daily usage: 6.66kWh

but how much do you use was the question? not how much you import from the grid

      • More than 6.66kWh? 😅 Can't say what the exact usage is since we don't have measurements of how much solar we are self-consuming. Say 10-11 kWh then?

  • I'm averaging 38kWh a day, with on average 7kWh for charging my PHEV and 6.5kWh for electric HWS. No solar nor gas.

My electricity bill says I use 2 kWh a day. Computers, TV, fridge, cooking, heating in winter. Hot water is gas. I use about $10/month of it.

I'd be a hypocrite if I acknowledged global warming was happening, and didn't do something, so I have chosen not to have air conditioning. In summer I just put up with the heat. Like every generation before us has had to. And it didn't kill them.

Like every generation before us has had to. And it didn't kill them.

That’s a survival bias thinking. Kinda like saying WWI and WWIi didnt have much deaths because you’re still alive.

That said, 2kWh a day is impressive

No, you'd only be a hypocrite if you told everybody else that they should be cutting back on their power usage while you didn't.
There is nothing hypocritical about knowing a fact and not changing your life because of it.

    • 2 kWh a day? That is only 80W average! I thought I was frugal, but you win the prize.
You sure? A small fridge will use 1kWh/day.

      • Yeah I thought I was too. I'm the same with AC, grew up fine without it. It came with the house but didn't really use it.
Checked my latest bill and family of 4 12kwh/day. Only thing not on electricity is hot water

    I use about 7.5kwh a day.
    1 human, 2 cats.
    Everything is electric, no gas.
I cook in bulk and freeze, so don't use to stove often.
    No pool.
Aircon used in winter only if it's inconvenient to put the fire on.

  • usually 20-25kwh per day
    everything electric, no pool.
    family 3

  • 2 people 9kw per day
about 14kw per day with aircon for half a day

  • 2 adults, 1 infant 9.53kWh average between 16 December 2022 and 14 March 2022 (aircon used on average 12 hours per day over the summer)
Everything electric except hot water and stove
    No pool, split system aircon

  • 1 Adult, work from home.
    Gas oven and hot water.
    Average daily use 5.3kWh

  • We used 12kw/ day w 5kw solar net export approx 12kw/day this summer
4 people large pool gas cooking, heat pump water + instant gas on other showers (half and half usage)
    Occassional aircon

  • 25-35kwh consumption daily.

2 adults, 1 kid. 14kw ducted air con, electric stove, computer on 24/7, solar hot water, no pool but very power hungry hifi and home theatre systems.

Have got a 10kw solar system.

  • 15.77kwh per day.

Family of six, no pool, no gas, no solar, aircon in one room that we rarely use.

  • 1 adult WFH gas burners and hot water, electric oven, no aircon 3.4kw a day.

  • 2 adults, 1 WFH, electric everything, small 1.5kw solar system.

    14.50 kWh per day

  • 13kWh/day, 2 people, both frequently WFH. Solar hot water. No Solar power. Electric cooktop and oven. No pool.

  • 1 adult, work from home, all electric, no aircon, 5.1 kw/day.

  • 2 adults, 1 teenager and 2 under 9. We average between 25 and 30 kWh/day at the moment. 3 PCs (adults work from home), 2 xboxes (2 tvs), 2 fridges, chest freezer and quite a few fans (summer has been pretty hot in this neck of the woods). Oven is electric, everything else is gas. I only use the dryer for large bulky items (we don't have a clothesline).

  • I work from home (2 computers, 2 monitors on all day), and we use 4-5 kWh/day (4 in summer, 5 in Winter).

Roughly 1/10th of your electricity use.

We have gas hot water, but the gas bill is usually only $25/month. Never use aircon.

  • Hey @deme
Have you tabulated all the results?
    .

  • Yes.
