MDLELZYKRGROAN35

On sale is this amazing 8.8" Android tablet from Lenovo that's designed for gaming and packed with features. Easily my favourite tablet out of all of them and if money is no issue then the 12GB/256GB version for US$368.15 (~A$553.74) is highly recommended.

The standout features is the size at 8.8" while offering an impressive 2.5K display, with the flagship Snapdragon 870 CPU paired with fast RAM and storage, making it perfect for gaming. It has Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix HD and HDR10 support making it excellent for media. There's HDMI output via USB-C so you can mirror the tablet to a display or use PC Mode that allows you to have a PC like setup on a display. PC Mode in action can be seen in the reviews linked below.

Featuring Android 11 (Android 12 / ZUI 13 via OTA), 8.8" 2560x1600 120Hz display with 500nits brightness, 100% DCI-P3, HDR10 & Dolby Vision, 240Hz touch sample rate, 8GB (or 12GB) LPDDR5 RAM, 128GB (or 256GB) UFS 3.1 storage (microSD support), Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 CPU with Adreno 650 GPU, 6550mAh battery w/ 45W PD/QC4+ charging, JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.

For reviews ETA Prime has covered the tablet in general + gaming and the PC mode + game streaming.

Important: Please ensure you choose "Bundle: CN Version" as that's a genuine Lenovo ROM with English, Widevine L1 and updates. The "Global firmware" is a ROM copied from another tablet, so it's buggy with an unlocked bootloader, no Widevine L1 DRM and no updates. Google Play must be sideloaded on the CN version with a link from APK Pure available on the listing.

  • Add "Bundle: CN Version" to the cart
  • Apply coupons MDLELZYKRGRO and AN35 at checkout
  • Further US$16 discount applied automatically at checkout

  • This or Mi Pad 5 ?

    • +1

I have a had a Mi Pad 5 for a while, and honestly unless you like the Xiaomi ecosystem like me - get this. It has much faster charging, SD870 over 860 in regular pad 5 and HDMI out of c port plus even a bigger battery.

Edit: just realised this one is much smaller, that's a big factor too

  • Different size

  • +1

I stopped waiting for them to release a real global and just went with iPad 11 Pro M1 LTE. The high end 8 inch market is pretty dead.

    • Why didn't you get the ipad mini? Genuine question if you were looking at a smaller size.

      • +2

It's slow. Nothing can touch M1 and above right now. Jelly scroll didn't help either.

        • Agreed, got the iPad pro M1 11 incher with a Telstra mobile plan (using the Sim as my home internet in a router).

I've played a few games and use it for day to day and the fluidity on the M1 is bonkers. I'm anti most Apple things but I can agree with the performance on this beast.

I got the 12/256 version with CN rom and I didnt need to sideload google play. It can be downloaded directly from the included "App Center". Also EN language is in the chinese menu somewhere and default language will be Chinese. You have to navigate ZUI, to change the settings I did it and cant read Chinese. There are youtube videos as a guide, it was located in a slightly different area to the video I watched. Once you set it to English and download google play youre golden though. The only problem I have Google nofications dont work and I have to manually check to see if I received emails. Its a top notched tablet with superb fluid performance and nice screen, just make sure you're ok with the tiny size, it was definitely smaller than what I was expecting but I've adjusted to it.

    • I got the same version from Giztop, and it was already setup with English. It has been a good replacement for my Sony Z3 Compact Tablet which I bought from an Ozbargain bargain post many years ago. It's still working as my NVR, home monitoring etc. but needs to stay plugged in as battery drops from 100% to 0% in les than 1 min.

For Google Play, I downloaded from ApkMirror. There are 3 apks needed, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework and Google Play Services. The App Ceter version has issues recognizing some of my previous purchases and does not update to the latest

For notification issue, I don't use Gmail, but noticed that anything running in the background gets terminated mercilessly by the Task Manager. To stop this, enable App Pinning (General Settings -> Security & Location -> More Security Settings). Once that is enabled, call up the Recent Apps and tap & hold on the title bar of the app and select the lock icon. This pins the app in memory and it doesn't get killed. This has worked for the other apps that I need to keep running

Also, NoRoot Firewall is recommended to minimize the call back to Lenovo .. install it and you will see what I mean.

      • Any issues with using something like Revanced?

        • +1

I just installed Revanced, and doesn't seem to be any issues …

          • @NewbiefromVic: Thanks for the reply! Went ahead with the purchase (omg what did I do)

            • +1

@dajackal: It's a great tablet. I've bought a couple of other Lenovo tablets since my Sony Z3, and while they have all performed admirably, this one ticks all the boxes (performance and size). I don't regret it (even though I paid more than this deal) and hopefully, you won't either :-)

If you have any issues, feel free to ping me.

              Cheers

              • @NewbiefromVic: Thanks buddy!
Bit premature as the tablet has only just shipped, but I'm super confused with what to download at apkmirror. What version number/variant/arch/DPI/bundle/APK should I be shooting for?

Also any recommendations for cases? I ended up getting the magnetic detachable one for just under $20. Seems to be a copy of the official Lenovo one.

                • +1

@dajackal: I can't really remember as I did it last year because there were some issues (e.g. purchases not being recognized etc) with the Lenovo App Center version.

The current versions (after a few updates via the Play Store) are

                  Google Services Framework version 12
                  Google Play Services 23.10.15 (190400-517566699)
                  Google Play Store 33.6.13-21 (0) (PR) 494233776

I updated from Android 11 to 12 via OTA before I installed the above-mentioned.

As for case, I was planning on using it for gaming so I got a TPU case from Amazon for ~$20. Of course, the case arrived earlier than the tablet :-D I'm planning on getting the Lenovo Precision Pen 2 which the tablet supports, but just waiting for a sale

                  • @NewbiefromVic: Mine came today and it appears to be in english with google services preinstalled. Why?? Should I flash the official CN ROM?

                    • +1

@dajackal: Mine came with google pre-installed as well, but I was able to install over it with the Google apks I got from Apkmirror and it worked fine. Just make sure to get it to the latest firmware version (14.0.231) first.

I picked up a Lenovo Precision Pen 2 a couple of days back, and it works well with the Y700, and bonus that it works with my Surface Pro 8 as well.

                      • @NewbiefromVic: Thanks. What apps/use cases do you use with the pen?

                        • @dajackal: I'm currently using it for Duolingo to learn Chinese, but it's also useful for taking written notes and using Gboard handwriting input etc.

Were you able to get the firmware / Google playstore issued resolved?

                          • @NewbiefromVic: Yeah I was able to flash the official stock ROM and then got the OTA updates to Android 12 and ZUI 14. Super frustrating the seller didn't just give me the unopened box.

Where did you get the pen from and did you get a good deal? How's the palm rejection? I'm learning Chinese too but just focusing on reading at the moment lol

                            • @dajackal: Glad it's all sorted out.

I got the pen from Lenovo a couple of days ago, think I paid $50, but I forgot to search online and seems you can get it cheaper from elsewhere :-( like Giztop, which is quite reliable from the reviews

                              https://www.giztop.com/lenovo-precision-pen-2.html

Don't usually rest my palm on the screen, but just did a quick test in Duolingo and palm rejection seems ok. The lines are not always straight and there is a slight jitter to the screen sometimes, but i guess the software will get fixed. The plus side is that I can use the same pen for my Surface 8

Just beware about warranty. I bought a p11 plus from aliexpress and it became paper weight in less than a year. Aliexpress was no help with it

    • +2

You need to be open to self diagnosis and repair tbh buying this sort of stuff off Ali. My Poco F2 Pro just had the charging port stop working after owning for 2 years, and I replaced the charging board and flex cable myself with parts off there too.

  • What actual good games are on Android other than emulating ps games? I bought a tab s8 ultra hoping I could play genshin on it, but controller support was never released on Android…gave up and just played on pc.

  • I've been looking at this for over a year now and now that it's finally come down to a reasonable price, it's effectively 2 years old running android 11. With no chance or very little chance of upgrading to 12, I am wondering if it is worth it?

For me 8 inch is a perfect size, unfortunately, the last 3 years or so has seen a demise in this size for premium or at least above average tablets. Remember the Pixel tablets? Long gone are the great tablets of 5+ years ago. Even the Apple iPad mini has its drawbacks.

    • +2

It has Android 12 via OTA.

      • Thanks, I just saw that.

  • +1

Ok, I'll bite. Just wondering how do you sideload Google Play?

  • I never get the price in description and I can only use either one of the coupons listed.
The price get is usually about $30 - $40 more than what is in the description.

Is there a trick on getting this price?
How about using both the coupons?

    • +1

First coupon may have expired I'll check. It only knocks a couple of dollars off.

      As for price see below.

      • Thanks @Clear

      • This because of the +10% GST being added?
Any way to not get charged that? (1st time transacting in Ali) Thanks in advance.

Edit: Saw this from the post but still getting GST being added (US$ 399 total for 12GB):
"AU$ based on current Mastercard rate, GST inclusive and stacks with cashback."

        • +1

US$368.15 for 12/256 with both coupons.

          • @Clear: Worked the third try. Thanks, buddy!

  • Thanks Clear, just bought the 12/256 version. ETA April 15. Now the wait………..

  • Oh, Cashrewards just tracked $21.62

    • How long did it take to track?

Mine has already shipped and still hasnt tracked yet :(

      • +1

Tracked either that day or the next day. Funny, I'm still waiting for mine to ship out.

      • +1

Just checked my previous comments. It tracked within the hour.

  • +1

Is the 8GB RAM sufficient? Not looking to multi task and I can expand storage using microSD

    • Yep more than enough.

    • Yeah, that's ample, just as Clear mentioned.

    • +1

Oh, just checked my previous comments. It tracked well within an hour. OOPS wrong person.

  • Mine came today. It was already opened, in English with Google Play preinstalled.
I can't seem to find a way to update it to Android 12 OTA.
I ordered the CN version so was not expecting this at all.
Am I able to return this? Or is there an easy fix?

    • Same situation here. Anyone know how to get this replaced/returned to Aliexpress?

      • Huge frustration…
Was very tempted to initiate a return, but found a way to load the official stock ROM and got the OTA updates to Android 12 ZUI 14

        • +1

Can you PM me how please? Thanks in advance.

        • XDA instructions on flashing the CN ROM worked, thanks.
Anyone know how to get even just the key apps from CN -> English text (Legion Zone)?

          • @rabau: It's not perfect, but if you use Google Translate on your phone, set it to Chinese -> English and use the Camera button to live translate the screen, it'll do a decent enough job translating the key bits. I need to do this from time to time when it send me notifications in Chinese
