Lifesystems Chlorine Dioxide, Water Purification, 30 Tablets $16.79 + $10.89 Delivery @ Jackson Sports (UK)

I did my own research, lol Chlorine Dioxide is the best chemical to clean water in a pinch. Don't confuse it with cheaper Chlorine tablets.

  • Could not find any with a sane price anywhere in AU.
  • Iodine based are banned in EU.
  • "Ef-Chlor" you get on Amazon is Sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC), is not Chlorine Dioxide. Wiki
  • Water purification tablets

Make your own with Sodium Chlorite + Hydrochloric Acid.
PM if you need the details.

    • The right ones show this contents:
      - sodium chlorite 6%
      - sodium dichloroisocyanurate dihydrate 1%

Does your method yield same contents?

      • Sodium chlorite (22-28%) and Hydrochloric Acid (4-5%).

And where is Chlorine Dioxide? Any link to the process and outcome?

I do remember from my school days enjoying Pipettes, Bunsen Burners, Titration and fun experiments with Magnesium and Sodium. We didn't have the Internet back then.

    • Whats CDS?

Chlorine Dioxide Solution = Chlorine Dioxide dissolved in water in approx 3000ppm

  • I believe these tabs are the only ones that kill cryptosporidium, but it takes hours, so filtering still seems like a good idea…

These filters are pretty cool, used by the U.S. military, they can be used in conjunction with CamelBak bladders and such, the filter has the same fittings…

The above "home kit" is just the Thru-Link fitter with the extra tap fittings and such:

    • I got "LifeStraw Personal Water Filter & Purifier" at Anaconda for $45, but still ordered tablets, just for redundancy, they weight nothing.

Wise to use both if you have concerns…

I used a Lifestraw for a while, good when there's lots of water around, I mainly switched to the MSR filter for an upcoming Canning Stock Route trip where I'll have to filter around 12+L at a time to last me a couple of days… I'll throw the crap water in an old grotty 3L Camelbak bladder with the filter attached, then let the water gravity feed into my clean-water 3L Camelbak, and other 6L & 3L bladders, it should be fairly fast and streamlined hopefully…

        • You built a fken water plant from your bladders! Respect!
