Cheap bluetooth keyboard

Hi All,

I'm looking for a really cheap bluetooth keyboard for the ipad. It doesn't have to be small as i will only use it at home. I've looked around and cant find anything below $40.

Also, looking for soccer boots. Im willing to spend more money on the boots. Any suggestions for places to buy a good one without getting ripped off? Your thoughts on the new adizero feather boots?

Cheers guys,
Appreciate your input

  • I picked up a Bluetooth keyboard for my PS3 for around $30 from MSY. They don't seem to carry them as part of normal stock though. It occasionally shows up on a Clearance list. Got mine from MSY in Clayton couple of years ago. It's white and about average size for a keyboard, with a few extra media buttons, Play/Pause etc the keyboard works well. The brand seems to be "Intact" and it's basically a Qwerty / Windows layout with 1 Windows Key and includes Numeric Keypad on the right. I think it's listed here, but you'll want to search the text: Bluetooth Keyboard for PS3
    http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/msy.htm

  • I just connected it to my ipad 2 & typed this sentence! So it works with an iPad, good luck!

Google (Shopping): "Bluetooth Keyboard for PS3" shows a few options for well under $40 (ipad ones too)

    • Thanks mate, Googling now for below $30 target.
The MSY only seems to be available in VIC.

  • If it helps, I just bought a bluetooth keyboard on eBay, for $13 shipped: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=22…

It was the cheapest new bluetooth keyboard I could find, as I just wanted it to test using my Android phone's HDMI out connected to my TV (basically making my TV a smart TV). An experiment really, so wanted to keep the price low. Oh and because I was being cheap I set my max price as $14.30 on 4 of this seller's auctions for the same keyboard, and used an eBay sniping site to group them and keep going until one of them was won.

Main downside is you'll be waiting on shipping for China for a while (I'm assuming it'll take a month to arrive).

    • Thanks mate, bought this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Black-Leather-Case-Cover-w-Wirele…

I9 bucks with the case. Glad i looked into ebay.thanks to you, i had stepped away from ebay years ago due to repeated let downs .

Mate, which phone do you have? is the resulting display on the tv good quality ? I should try that too.. Some of the youtube videos would be gold watching on a bigger screen like the red bull cliff jump games.

No worries. I've had a couple of problems with eBay before too, mostly from using direct bank transfers and not being sent the item, but now I'll only pay with PayPal (and in turn I set PayPal up so it can only draw from my credit card), and ensure that all communication with the seller goes through eBay's messaging system, and I also try to buy things that aren't that expensive (in case it goes wrong), and I've had no problems since. Worst I've had is 2 things out of maybe 70 purchases get lost in the mail, and it was easy to get refunds on both.

Mate, which phone do you have?

Samsung Galaxy Nexus, using a $8 USB MHL cable from eBay for HDMI out. Wife has the Motorola Razr XT910, which it has a microHDMI connector on it, and the $2 eBay cable for it arrived today.

If you're curious for more info, there's a video here of a someone trying this, using very similar hardware to what I'm using: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_--zcmqIyRI

is the resulting display on the tv good quality ?

Seems perfect to me. The biggest problem for me is that my TV is older (a 2006 Panasonic Plasma) and it has overscan, which means it cuts off 3 to 5% of the picture on the edges of the screen. That's a problem with the TV though, not the phone. I've checked the manual/service menus/etc, and unfortunately this "feature" can't be turned off on this set. But if you have a TV made from say 2008 onwards, it should be fine and show exactly what it receives.

Some of the youtube videos would be gold watching on a bigger screen

Totally. I just wish the youtube app would play continuously and stop doing the thing where it pauses because it's run out of buffer :-) But the one I'm most looking forward to trying is XBMC on Android. That's in the pipeline, but if / when that happens it has the potential to mean that media player devices like boxee / WDTV / Apple TV / etc are no longer necessary, because your phone will also be able to be your digital media player. The only extra hardware needed would be the video cable, and presumably at some point people will start making bluetooth remotes to increase convenience.

    • Have you received the keyboard? Does it work with your phone? I'm looking to buy one to pair with ipad. Thanks.

      • +1

Yes i received it but I am not impressed. It is very good value but my comments are:

        1. The keys are rubbery but do not give you soft typing experiencing. You have to press the keys quite hard especially if you are a fast typer. I had to hit hard and it sounded like a typewriter.

        2. The size of the case is too thick for me. It looks like a 2000 page diary. At least 5cm wide. I think it makes the ipad look shit.

        3. You can only stand the ipad up on a 90 degree angle. There are no slanting positions.

        4. The delivery time is about 15 days.

        • Maybe the logitech ones are better? E.g. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/79881
After I left my note above, a family member got an iPad and a logitech keyboard, which clips in and basically makes it almost into a laptop - they were very happy with it, and I'm guessing it's either the above model or something similar. But it is more than on eBay. Dunno if the current logitechshop sale has something similar?

        • Which make me so disappointed.

      • aus_proseller[located in sydney i believe] on ebay has a case/cover with keyboard included. I purchased a lotta stuff from them and got items the next day.

  • They have the Woolies/Dolphin brand compact bluetooth keyboard white colour at Woolies about $20.
