  • If anyone else was wondering, it's 100W

  • 50 Watt.

    No LFE input.

    • For me LFE is an amp function. My receiver lets me choose whether the sub output is a 'LFE + main speaker bass' or strictly LFE.

    • The rest input picture shows 2 RCA ports. Aren't these LFE?

      • Check the manual: PSW12 has LFE-in, PSW10 line-in

        • Thanks. I'm actually going through this now with my older sub ( I needed a new cable) and looking if I need a spilt one or not.

      • Yeah. Left and right inputs.
Left Input if just using the mono sub output on an amp.

LFE isn't really a sub thing, LFE just limits the sub output of an amp to be just the LFE channel of a multi-channel mix, vs sending the low freq (<120hz or whatever level you set) signal your main speakers are getting.

        • My new amp has lfe but not sure on the older sub.

I bought a 1rca to 2rca so can plug into both ports on the sub. Seems this isn't actually necessary but won't do any harm either.

From reading as you said lfe is an avr thing and the sub will just output the signal it receives.

Lfe seems like a specially encoded channel without a defined crossover (based more on what a sound is than it's frequency), while sub out used the standard frequency crossover idea.

          • @kulprit: Correct. LFE is a specific audio track in a multi-track surround output. The mixing engineer decides what goes out the LFE channel rather than the amp deciding.

General subwoofer output is anything below a freq set by the user in the amp.
Mine lets me choose LFE + anything below a set freq of whatever the mains are getting.

            • @scottb721: Thanks, so really it doesn't matter on the subwoofer end at all as long as the signal gets there. My y cable will work, but won't impact the sound in any way (for better or worse)

              • +1

@kulprit: The y cable will have the same signal on both RCAs as it's splitting the mono signal into two plugs so connect them both to the sub. This will prevent issues with an unterminated/disconnected connector.
Even if you fed the sub with separate L&R signals no doubt it would first mix them to a mono signal then run it through the sub's amp.

  • I'm currently using a Yamaha RX-V6A with a pair of KEF Q150's. For a sub I have plugged in a Logitech Z5500 sub. Would I notice much difference getting this Polk sub?

    • +1

With an RX-V6A are you working towards a 7.2 Atmos setup? If so, please consider a higher-end sub … plus better mains and a decent centre. The Polk sub may be a little under-powered but this depends on your room size. The lack of an LFE input is a deal breaker for me

      • My mistake, I'm using an RX V673. I use it with my PC in a medium-sized room, so it's not my main media room, I just wanted good sound for pc gaming, music and the occasional movie watched on the pc.

        • Your setup seems quite good for that purpose - are you happy with it? BTW, I have an RX-V773 in my media room

          • @sumyungguy: I guess so! I upgraded the media room from the V673 to the V6A, so decided to use the old V673 in my computer room instead. Using the Logitech sub requires connecting the Logitech control module to the receiver, so it's not quite as elegant as just simply connecting a sub, but it works.

    • +2

The bass extension is worse on the polk audio sub (40hz) compared to the logitech (33hz) but i imagine it's more articulate. Logitech isn't exactly high end audio.

But both options aren't really ideal for your speakers since the Q150s have a very controlled and detailed bass response and get down to 51Hz.

You'd be better off saving for something in the $500+ range down the line for an appreciable difference.

I run my Q150s with a Jamo sub 200 and the Jamo is really the weakspot of my system. But i take solace in knowing i spent only $50 on it and it only gets occasional use.

      • Thanks for the info!

  • don't get this sub

  • Is Polk Audio still great quality today like it was in the 90's or it's another one sold to Chinese and just keeping the glorious name?

  • Why would you ever spend $300 for a 50W ported subwoofer? Buy a 2nd hand sealed SVS.
