I think the 50% bikes deal is way underrated and flew under the radar (probably because the 15% off came first in the title). I think it should be way hotter! 2 bikes comes to mind which I think the 50% applies:

Triban RC520 from 1,599 to 800. This bike was hot when it was discounted down to $1k 2yrs ago so hard to imagine it's even cheaper now. Shimano 105, semi hydro disc

Triban RC120 GRVL from 1,099 to 550. 1x gravel groupset , flared bars, Hutchison gravel tyres

    Both tubeless ready

Agree, I’ve been keeping an eye out for the RC520 for a while but it’s semi-permanently out of stock in my size hence my comment ‘if you can find something in stock’. If there is one in stock on Saturday this would be a fantastic deal! I still plan to go just in case

grvl looks good but hard to ignore lack of derailleur hanger….why?
also non internal routing of the cables really sucks on a bike of this nature….would be so much better to route internally through the frame, for maintenance and cleaning
…other than that, looks alright for the dollars

      • I went yesterday and saw what you mean with the RD directly mounted the frame. The RC520 (which I have) didn't used to be the case. I guess the main reason is that low end RDs are easier to source than identifying a matching hanger years down the track. Also as the frame is lifetime warrantied, if it bent as a result I would imagine it is very cheap for them to supply a replacement using whatever the latest model is at the time rather than the workshop having to look for a hanger from X years ago.

Hey for anyone who was interested in either of these bikes (which I was) Decathlon has just put these two models on sale for $100 less which reading the terms and conditions now excludes them from the 50% off bike sale.

      • +3

Yup, saw that. 😡 It was just the GRVL in the morning, and then the rc520 too. Disappointed.

        • Same for the MTB I was looking at.

  • Are these 50% off in-store bike sales usually absolute chaos? That is, are there dozens of people queuing up for opening and battling for a limited number of bikes?

    • I went yesterday to take a look. All their 50% off bikes are either boxed and laid out in a big line at towards the front (sold unbuilt), or are built on the racks and have a red 50% off tag. Mostly the staff are busy building kids and entry level MTBs e.g. parents buying 2~3 entry level MTBs/hybrids for their kids & themselves. Otherwise not a lot of extra people compared to a normal day. Heaps of stock available.

Ahaha they've dropped most of the good bikes a few hundred dollars to exclude them all from the 50% sale.

The inverse of a price-jack, very clever Decathlon.

    • To Decathlon's credit - they did not exclude these from the 50% off sale. Though the 50% was from the full price rather than the discounted price ;-(

      • Did you get 50% off the original price of any already discounted bikes?

        • Yes, the offered 50% off the original price of any discounted bike - though I did opt for a different model that was not discounted.

          • @zanyspace: I tried decathlon auburn but they refused to do it for the gravel 120

            • @dyun: We went to Miranda - they even gave us $20 off 3 accessories (which was pretty much half-price)

Chatting to them - seems they expected more demand at Miranda but maybe it is not as popular store the others. They only sold 5 before lunch compared to more than a dozen at Tempe.

              • @zanyspace: I went to auburn as soon as they opened at 10am. Maybe it was too early
