  • Can I hook up the 200w solar panel that I just got from Aldi to charge this?

    • You would need a regulator.. probably

    • Does the Aldi solar panel come with barrel connectors? If so there will be one that'll fit.

      • No barrel connectors, but regulator and some anderson connector adaptors

        • That Aldi solar panel seems like a bad deal. I've picked up better for cheaper on eBay with MPTT and the connectors.

    • No. It has a max of 40w 12v panel supported.

    Here's my thoughts..

    • Very small battery (14Ah) - charging a 90W laptop via AC will drain it in well under 2 hours, maybe even less than an hour with losses through the inverter.

    • You can get a couple of charges of phones/tablets

    • I usually see around 3-4A/h usage on a typical 12V fridge in warmer weather, so this will likely power your 12V fridge for a 4~ of hours if it's already pre-cooled, less if it has to start from warm.

    • Attempt to run a welder from this and you will see sparks at both ends!

In the end probably not suitable for running 12V/240V appliances for any reasonable period of time, would think it's effectively a big USB power bank..

  • Can I bring this on a plane?

  • Battery: Li Ion (bit scary)

    • Should be LiFePO 4.

    • Why?

It's Lithium Polymer batteries you have to worry about. Those are the ones that swell easily if you stress them out.

I have one. I think the only thing to watch for is current draw limits, it'll auto monitor heat and switch itself off to protect the batteries. I got it for a CPAP machine which has a fairly hefty draw - it works though for long enough.

Regarding solar panel input, read specs and forums. It does have an MPPT circuit in it. Not sure how efficient it is, I don't use it.

    • Do you use a humidifier as well or switch it off? How long does it run for?

  • Can someone help me out with the mathematics here please? I'm trying to work out how this relates in capacity to something like my 30,000mAh Romoss power bank when charging phones/tablets over USB.

      30,000mAh = 111Wh
      30Ah x 3.7V (lithium cell voltage)

  • hey I have 4x midland gxt1000vp4 CB radios with about 1100mAh batteries each. they come with dual charing stations that connect via car cigarette plugs.
Will this keep my CBs topped up for 5 days of light use or is there a better option?
