Even lower price at Amazon Australia. Competitors (eg Pet Circle and PetStock) sell for around $66 for a 15 kg bag, with possible delivery fee. As part of their new pets range, Bunnings are selling for $60 (adult variety) - https://www.bunnings.com.au/optimum-15kg-chicken-veg-rice-dr…

Perhaps try and price-beat at Bunnings - therefore down to $38.79.

"Our lowest prices policy means that if you find a competitor's lower price (including GST and delivery charges) on the same in-stock item, we'll beat it by 10%. This excludes trade quotes, stock liquidations, commercial quantities, and items sold by other Bunnings Group businesses and Bunnings Marketplace. Our Price Policy also applies online to products sold by Bunnings."

    Woof!

This brand gives my dog the worst gas for some reason, ended up putting a 80% full bag on the side of the road with 'free' as it was unbearable 😅

OPTIMUM Puppy Chicken Dry Dog Food 15kg Bag, One Size only $29.49

  • This seems very cheap for dog food, is this stuff considered healthy, or good dog food?
I've always paid over $100 a 15kg bag for Advance dog food for my Golden retriever

Advance and Optimum are both made by the Mars Corporation. I doubt there would be much nutritional difference between the two brands.

    • It's trash, pretty much the equivalent of feeding you dog fish fingers and chips.

        What do you suggest then?

I suggest you start going down the rabbit hole of what constitutes a healthy diet for a dog, have a look at petfood review websites, maybe even have a chat with a breeder.

There are many different options and schools of thought (just like with human diets) but start by considering that this stuff is $4/kg, that means super cheap ingredients and not much meat.

My dogs eat mainly fresh meat, bones and vegetables/fruit (70% of their total calories) and currently on Performadog, but have been on Acana and Taste of the Wild.

But yes it's a rabbit hole, some people swear by grain free, others say grains are necessary, some say raw meat only, some think vegan is fine. There is no simple answer but IMO stuff like Optimum is the Doritos of doggy nutrition.

        • I recommend Royal Canine. I’ve tried a couple different dog foods but cheap kibble/canned food gives him gas and the runs. His been on Royal Canine and Prime 100 loaf for the past 8 months and not had one issue, his grown at a very good rate and had no major issues since

          • @Iwantthebestprice: There are some unflattering reviews of Royal Canin - which is also made by the Mars Corporation which makes Advance and Optimum. For example: https://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/royal-canin-dog-food-revie… and https://gentledogtrainers.com.au/royal-canin-dog-food-review… "In spite of its price, Royal Canin doesn’t use animal protein as the main ingredient in their recipes, and instead uses hefty amounts of corn and wheat as the base of their food. This is common practice among pet food manufacturers to cut costs. However, the final retail price doesn’t reflect these savings. In fact, we find the price of this brand doesn’t correlate with the smaller amounts of animal protein used in their recipes."

          • @Iwantthebestprice: Prime 100 loafs are great, I cube them as training treats. The wild boar and pumpkin in particular seems to send all the dogs in the park wild.
The prime 100 frozen meat balls have been good so far too as a meal topper.

  • We got 4x 3kg bags of the same for $47 on Amazon (suits us better with smaller bags to stay fresh and storage).
