TCL has become a good quality brand. Making good progress with augmented reality too.

    • TCL really arent that bad. I would prefer one of the higher model TCL TVs (P835 for example) over a similarly priced Samsung/LG/Sony. Obviously if cost isnt a factor then you are right, I would take something like a sony OLED over TCL

      Okay! Guess I was wrong!

You may be right although I'm thinking

    Big brands>TCL>Hisense,bauhn,soniq

    • +1

      I agree with you.

    • actually both TCL and Hisense are very big brands in China, hard to say which one must be better than another. They just don't focus Australia market.
It comes to the specific model to say which TCL model is better than Hisense at the same price range.

And the site www.rtings.com you can see some of the TCL or Hisense models are quite good at their price range. (sadly TCL use different model code in Nth America)

P.S TCL cheaper TV's android function isn't that good, quite lagging. Do not expect it to run smoothly as an Android smart TV. But connect to another device like PC or PS5 to use TV as a monitor, then it's really great for its price.

sadly TCL use different model code in Nth America)

Always getting the short end of the stick.

        • This. Australia TCLs are not the same spec as US models. Actually deceptive marketing IMO. Truly anti consumer behaviour.

        • Reasons for difference include. voltage, over the air transmission is different. North America uses ATSC tuner vs our DVB-T standard https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_digital_television_dep…

Also Roku has deals with a lot of TV manufacturers for the software side including TCL in North America

TCL TVs in Australia completely different to China and USA.

They have a great screen but completely borked OS.

I got rid of my last TCL tv to my grandma as the update they applied over the air made the tv take about a minute to turn on. I often flick it on to check a cammera or quickly cast a YouTube etc. Grandma just leaves it on free to air so doesn't bother her.

The os updates very unreliable if I got one in the future I'd probably disable updates on it.

We also used it with a Chromecast as the OS was very slow at times and would crash with certain apps.

I got both Hisense and TCL
Personally feeling Hisense is better than TCL
My TCL tv start to have audio issue after 3 years of use, Hisense TV still going strong and still able to receive firmware update (and able to install Disney+)

      • I was looking at TCL and it seems the low - midrange have issues with longevity.

      • Personally feeling Hisense is better than TCL

You need to specify the models. A TCL6 series is vastly different from the 8 series for example

    • Agree as I have a TCL

    • We've gone from a Bauhn 4K to an LG 4K and the difference is night and day.

    • +1

I think TCL more reliable than some friend's that have LG

    • Where is Sharp?

  • +1

Looks like Myers has this model, or something very similar for 1199, for anyone interest but can't get to a costco in ACT haha.

    • 20% more expensive, not really worth it

  • I have the 43inch TCL C635. Google TV is extremely laggy.

    • I've got a 65inch… same thing

      • Did you buy a seperate Google device

    • Get firetv with it

    • pretty much same with all tcl models

  • +3

Tcl got three years warranty, that's a big plus

    • +1

not to mention most credit cards will offer an extra year warranty. So make that 4 years.
Bonus because Costco can provide your receipt from your member # when it comes time to warranty and you can't find it! Recommended deal.

Just keep in mind the TCLs we get in Australia are not the same as TCL in the US and other countries, as you might see positive reviews for online.

TCL use different model numbers because they are actually different models, so there should be no confusion. You might be thinking of Hisense which use the same model numbers in different countries with different specs

Interesting that in NSW Costco the RRP is $1659 (not the $1459 in Canberra Costco) .. even though they have the same rebate of $460, this TV ends up $200 more in NSW. Nothing like consistency !

I bought a new TCL TV (50" C635) recently, I can say there are some glitches / bugs / quirks which I have never experienced before:

    • Voice / video can get out of sync, even for live television. My old Sony from year 2008 never had that problem. It goes away after a reboot but it can be annoying.
    • Never was an OTA update available over Internet. The latest firmwares can only be found in a Telegram thread. Also, there are no changelogs available for these firmwares.
    • Picture sometimes have a red tint and would fix itself after switching between apps or a restart of the video.
    • The built-in video player would randomly frameskip on high quality video (e.g. 4K HDR content), as if the CPU is busy running some background tasks. Because it does it at random places given the same video, it isn't because bitrate was too high and decoder not fast enough.
    • The built-in PC mode, although capable of displaying text with no sub-sampling (4:4:4) at SDR, looks as if a sharpening filter is applied and cannot be switched off. Other modes don't have this problem but cannot display text clearly.

I can't tell if these problems are common for all TV brands because how TVs are more complex today…

    • I have the 65" version. Agree on the sync issues, happens pretty badly over ARC and even with devices plugged into an external AVR at times. Seems their picture processing is just really slow, even if you disable most of it.

The HDR implementation is also really bad (low brightness aside), to the point you're better off forcing SDR. My Chromecast sometimes thinks the TV can do DolbyVision HDR, sometimes only HDR10. Hit and miss.

TCL makes several brands like FFalcon, TCL and even Toshiba, so it certainly has strong tech in display with different product lines to make sure you pay what u get.
But speaking of Android OS inside these TVs, slow or lagging, because none of these streaming Apps nor Google service can be used in China.
All the Chinese models use different domestic Apps and tailored OS, and maybe few complain feedback to its headquarters in China to improve this.
Same issues with other Chinese brands. So just plug a stick and enjoy the screen.

  • Do they still have the 3 years warranty? My last TCL was giving issues about 4 months before the warranty was up and they just sent me a new TV after the technician came out. I was pretty impressed. I am a fan of TCL TVs. The channels change a little slow on my older model but who cares?!

    • I'm in the process of RMA mine. Takes two minutes boot up and freezes. After collecting the tv how long before they send you a replacement?

      • If I remember correctly it took around 3 weeks being in WA (this was precovid). You will get a replacement pending the shipping routes are moving like precovid days.

        • Did they actually test your tv? I'm concerned they'll just return mine. Intermittent issues with freezing even with all the software updates and troubleshooting with TCL support…

  • Wow are the C835 and P series much higher specs than this or something? In the previous deal posts people were raving about TCL TVs compared to the comments in here.

    • The C835 and this deal are in two completely different leagues.

The C835 is a state of the art mini-LED backlit TV with 1000+ local dimming zones, that could suit deep-pocketed buyers that are willing to trade the burn-in risk of OLED with the blooming of miniLED, while the C635 is a pretty basic QLED does not have local dimming at all and competes with budget models.

      • Right but apart from one comment the majority of the here are complaining about the OS which the C835 and P line would have the same version of wouldn't they? And also I don't seem to remember comments in those deals bringing up the whole US vs AUS different specs problem which until now I used to think was exclusively a Hisense issue.

        • I think Hisense are the ones with the us vs aus model differences with the same model number and not TCL, but happy to be corrected on that.

          • @pranksta: Yeah that's what I thought as well but there are comments up above saying TCL is apparently the same?

  • Keen to hear that also, as I have a delayed order on a 75C735 that I might cancel..

  • There are still plenty numbers of TV with same price in VIC Epping Costco. I just bought one🙂
