Financial Institutions Should Provide Notifications for All Transactions on Your Account

They should allow you to select to receive notifications for any transactions on your account….like alerts.

Some do, but most don't. With all the issues with fraud atm, it would be good to get notified straight away about transactions, so you would know straight away if someone was using your account without your knowledge. I've tried to set it up with as many banks I deal with as I can, but many don't have the option.

Would be good to have stronger authentication to log in if you wanted, like two factor etc. That would also slow down would be thieves. I know that becomes a pain sometimes, but better that than losing all your money.

Then pick a bank that does? Westpac, Macquarie and Ubank are three I bank with who all offer notifications.

I use multiple banks for savings products and am moving money all the time for best rates? No need to be tied to one bank anymore?

Different banks compete of different things. Some banks have better features like real time alerts and payments, some banks have physical branches and tellers, some banks have better rates.

no, thats not the way. All banks should offer exactly what I want and for free and also give me a high interest rate.

yes, but I am saying, the current climate of so many customers being scammed, that more financial institutions should be doing things to help customers avoid this, or at the very least allow them to be notified of transactions so they can stop their account/card before the whole lot is gone.

@souths123: Scammer turns off your notifications before stealing your money.

Most customers would not want or use this feature, most people periodically review their accounts , 2fa is pretty easy to bypass, if someone gives out their password , they will likely also give out a 2fa code.

I think you are mistaking fraud with scams , 99% of the media articles you see that people lose major money are scams , 2fa won't protect you here , it would actually be worse for you if that's what they relied on.

  • cbd gives me notifications

LSD gives me hallucinations, but this is about banking.

    • Commercial Bank of Dubai is unlikely an option for OP

      So does NAB.
I'm surprised there are banks that don't.

ING tried to do this last year, but a lot of the notifications were nowhere near real time, so the notifications were not very useful. For example, I once received a push notification three hours after money landed in my ING account, yet the bank I sent the money from notified me of the transfer within seconds of my executing the transfer.

ING actually had to remove the notification feature after a few weeks. My guess is that they need to invest in IT enhancements to make that feature actually usable…

        • They went back to SMS, which has always been reliable for me. Guess they wanted to save money on the number of text messages they send out.

      • You'll be surprised to see one of the big 4 doesn't have this option in their app.

    alright, i'll tell them

Most here probably still use the Bank of Mumndad which tends to work on you notifying them for all transactions.

  • Thanks and noted.

  • Thank you souths123 for your kind review. We have been in the meeting with all directors and shareholders onboard. We are all agreed that you transferred your funds to my account so it is secured. Please sent a me direct message ASAP!

    Yours sincerely,

  • Wouldn't you be more constructive checking your credit score every 5 secs OP ?

  • Ubank does, anz doesn't 🤔

  • They do though?

I turn it off because it's annoying af.

    Why?

They didn’t force you to bank with them, so you have to accept whatever they give you because you decided to go with them of your own accord.

Not sure what you are talking about, not much sense at all.

send me all ur details, accounts , passwords, ID (licence and passport) and mobile number.

ill monitor it and everytime u have a transaction ill sms you

    i got ya br0

  • I get an SMS from ING every transaction over $5. Get the SMS moments after I have spent the money, i.e. while I am still standing in the shop. Doesn't bother me as I don't use the ING card very much, and only for low value transactions, but I watch it like a hawk. Almost everything goes on my Amex card for QFF points. Don't think they have notifications, but must check. Would make it easier to monitor that card as well.

I don't pay any money to anyone until I am 100% certain it is correct, and certainly not to anyone outside my list of regular billers, like utilities, newspaper delivery, health insurance, rates, etc. When I get a call from the ATO's Kolkata office, I ask them which Tax File number they are referring to. If they quibble I just say I have 6 TFN's, which one are they referring to? They don't know that I cannot have 6 TFN's. For some strange reason the call just drops out. It's pretty easy to deal with most scammers.

Don't think they have notifications, but must check.

They do via G Pay/Apple Pay

  • how do you get notifications with ING? I have searched but can't find where to do that

  • Log into the website and choose notifications near the bottom of the grey menu bar on the left hand side of the page.

    • thanks, I had been looking in the app, but I found this on the website
