Z9 price is ridiculous. I would rather buy this and a few more lenses

You're comparing apples and oranges. The Z9 and the D850 are different classes entirely aimed at different segments of the market. Best way to look at it would be that the Z9 offers all the features and more of the D6 along with the resolution of the D850. Compared to the D6, the Z9 a downright bargain for significantly better specs.

    • totally different class of camera. i love my d850, but the z9 is miles ahead in basically every metric. if you shoot sports or an industry where speed matters, the z9 is untouchable. the video is miles better, the autofocus in live-view is incomparable, less rolling shutter, better autofocus (most of the time), more updates / market specific features, access to sharper z-mount glass, the list goes on.

that being said; i love the d850's ovf vs mirrorless evf and the sensor performance is still superb. it's a camera i'll keep forever, the z9 isn't for me as i'm a cashed up amateur instead of a professional buying for work. i paid $3300 for my d850 (50k clicks) and the 24-70 f2.8vr - f mount is becoming great value.

      • F mount really is looking like great value these days. I saw a few D610s in decent nick listed on marketplace for $400 the other day, which as a stills shooter still seems like a lot of camera for the money — almost enough to temp me back as a B cam or something. Lenses are getting more affordable as well.

        • Totally. Even the 12MP sensors are extremely serviceable for stills - with great DR and great low-ISO perf. Lenses are getting ridiculously cheap if you know where to look, and the system is somewhat compatible all the way back to film era cameras. I reuse my 50 between my cheap and cheerful F75 and my D850 :))

  • Clearance? Doesn't seem to have been discontinued yet, has it?

I think I got mine d850 grey import more than 5 years ago cheaper than this, honestly, if I am in the market right now I would definitely go for Z9 for better value, as long as I can afford to.

  • Would wait for Z8, when ever that comes out. Hopefully a smaller body than Z9 with almost same features. Most cameras now days most shows off their video features more than their photography features. Generally it seems all top tier cameras have 14 stop dynamic range in photo mode.
