Is SpinTel Just Slow in Perth?

Hi all, just got online with SpinTel on their discounted 25mbps plan, coming from Superloop. Speed tests show at most 8mbps download during the day - is this just SpinTel in general for Perth users? I know SL have their own infrastructure here and I always got good speeds even at night.

Luckily my Superloop service is still active because these speeds seem dismal. I’ve restarted the router and tried both Ethernet and wifi. Same deal.

SpinTel only has a POP in NSW so your Perth traffic takes the long way around and use Optus for backhaul. Cancel SpinTel and go back to Superloop.

This is what I was thinking but didn’t have the right technical vocab to explain it. Thanks!

Any other ISPs that do the same I should know about to avoid in future?

Dodo, AGL and MATE are not great anymore since changing to Wireline for backhaul.

Thanks a lot for this info - Superloop it is for now I guess.

          • @zfind: I've found Exetel to be good. Cheaper than Superloop. Think it's owned by them now.

            • @follow: I found Exetel horrible for Perth.. Constant drop outs and slow speeds. I've tried many and am currently on Aust Post nbn and it's actually been the most stable one so far and haven't noticed any drop-outs. The ping is a little high but my husband plays shooting games online and hasn't complained. Suspect the Pop is also NSW as that always comes up as my location

              • @MeesusEff: FTTN? Have you used Superloop, Aussie Broadband or Telstra? Strange that Auspost would be the best one.

                • @follow: Telstra also had drop-outs for some reason, maybe weather wasn't great at the time but the experience I had with their customer service team over them cancelling the wrong service then charging me is enough to strike them off the list forever.

Superloop wasn't great, Aussie BB was ok and stable but Auspost ticks all the points at the lowest price (got the $50pm and then ongoing 10% discount). If I were to count the ping then Aussie BB would probably win but since my husband hasn't complained about his gaming I ll stick to Auspost.

Yes FTTN on a 50mbps plan.
