Disney+ (Overseas Subscription) Cancellation

I signed up for an annual Disney+ subscription via Google Play in Turkey. Got an email about an hour ago saying I had cancelled and then got a notification of a refund. Checking on the Disney app, I am no longer subscribed. Has anyone else had this happen?

This is why I never took the Turkey offer. I don't want to lose my viewing history or explain to sharer's why theirs is gone forever.

  • Same for me, I contacted Google (via chat) and they suggested contacting Disney+ directly. I've emailed them just in hope of finding out why. I figured they don't believe I am actually Turkish….
They at least refunded the full amount which makes the original bargain even better for about 10 months of viewing, prefer it kept going though

    • Hi, what was the email address you sent it through to? I found they cancelled the membership and refunded the TRIAL one.

      • I can't remember what email address I used, I think the Google person gave it to me. I never got a response anyway.
I ended up just signing up again via Turkey and it's still working

        • thanks, I ended up using the Google chat, who said they couldnt help.
Went to the disney chat, they cancelled and refunded the new subscription and then said bad luck. told me to ring up (never got through)
Went back to google, 2nd person was much more helpful and I tried a different tack. They told me to go back to Disney.
Used the new angle on Disney, the guy was great. Understood the issue and processed the refund. He said Google had recognised the loop hole and hence they organised the mass cancellation, so I guess this is going to occur again very soon. I didnt tell him how i signed up, he guessed

  • I got the same email hrm.

  • Yep woke up to this too. Damn it.

  • Got the same but can still resubscribe in the app for the updated amount (649 Turks or about 52aud)

    • +1

Same. Wonder if it works or just cancels immediately

    • Same email and payment type?
Let us know if it gets shut down again

  • Yep same occurred here.

  • Yep, same. Full refund coming to my 28 Deg. Card, had it for 5 months, 5 days 🥺 here’s hoping Netflix doesn’t get the same idea!!

  • +1

Same here, maybe they're forcing users onto the new prices?

Just re-subscribed as it's still good at $52/yr for us.

  • Interesting. I must check. google shut down the email address i used so have no idea if i'd even get the payment back if it were refunded.

  • Same, just noticed it says subscription has ended, pretty sure I had till June or July.

No emails or anything. Are people getting refunds or something? Was working fine yesterday.

  • Mine is Cancelled too. Refund back. I use TV Time app so no issue with watch history.

  • +2

I was able to resign up via Turkey with no problems whatsoever. Restored my original account, watch history etc.

  • +1

    Strange, no emails or refunds.

  • Just checked my account and it has certainly been cancelled. I wonder how I will be able to get the refund, if there was one.

  • Get on to Kodi + Real debrid and you can watch anything that can be torrented (practically everything except super old niche stuff) without a need for VPN, and it's not illegal as it's streaming not downloading. Cost me $52 for the year and it's all my subscriptions in one. You can try it for $4.90/15 days to see if it suits.

I'm super noob when it comes to tech knowledge and stuff but the guides https://howtomediacenter.com/en/fen-kodi-addon/ are pretty idiot proof. I've even delved into skins to make it look more Netflix-ey. The main addon people use would be between Fen, Seren or Umbrella. There's also sports addons and stuff but I don't know much about them.

The only downside to it is if you like to scroll continuously to find something to watch then it takes longer, but you can set it up to latest TV shows, genre, popularity etc. Movies generally wait til later for the good rips to come out. But since ive set this up, my husband doesn't sail the seas anymore so we save on storage space and the hassle of transferring stuff to watch on TV. I have a CCWGTV and it works fine but apparently it's a lot better on the Nvidea's.

and it's not illegal as it's streaming not downloading

Whatever helps you sleep at night :)

Can you please link to the legislation that would indicate copyright infringement doesn't count if you stream the content?

I'm all for people obtaining media however they want, but don't try and justify it by thinking the particular source you've chosen to pirate content from makes it 'not illegal' :)

      • +1

Isnt the act of using VPNs to pretend you are in a different country also considered fraud since the losses can be calculated? Might as well use a debrid service then for more content.

Look, I'm not good at govt policy/legal terminology and all that lingo, but if you google whether real-debrid is illegal or not then the results can explain it way better than I can, like
https://www.reddit.com/r/Addons4Kodi/comments/m3jmw9/looking…, maybe I should have said it's more of a grey area when it comes to the legality of it.

Or here https://www.allconnect.com/blog/is-streaming-illegal#:~:text…. Under pseudo streaming. As far as I'm aware pirating would be if the content was downloaded, which it isn't. I know that's a US site but I dunno how to search for the Aust one

Anyway, you'll be able to argue a case against, and I can argue for just like vaccine arguments but ultimately people can do their research and make their own conclusions.

maybe I should have said it's more of a grey area when it comes to the legality of it.

no grey area at all. The only ones that claim stuff like real debrid hosted streaming content isnt illegal are the ones selling streaming services :)

I'm not being a hypocrite and saying dont source media via whatever means you want (I use newsgroups, have a plex server, and subscribe to streaming services via other countries), but they also shouldn't pretend what they are doing is some grey or questionably legal loophole and they arent pirating content any different to someone else using torrents, newsgroups, etc…

Own it, embrace it, just dont deny it..
          Enjoy your streaming :)

          • @SBOB: Thanks for reasonable argument. I can't say I am great at interpreting legal terminology but from what I've read up upon, the general consensus says it's ok. Ah well, if it's illegal then I guess Ill just be a risk taker from now on 😂

    • +1

Pretty sure that isn't legal as the source files would be torrents anyway.

Won't be 4k and Dolby Atmos without glitches I assume?

      • Im on Fttn 50mbps so I can't comment on 4k as I don't think it'll even load on the tv, but there are plenty of 4k links to choose from. Currently binging on Game of Thrones in HD

        • +4

Imagine paying for pirated content! Sorry but that's just a silly thing to do.

          • @Bruceflix: I'm paying for the convenience of not having to jump on the pc to download and having to store it, cast/transfer to get it on the tv (pc not on all the time to plex), and the ability to be able to watch anything I want without waiting for the download to finish (thanks FTTN).

Hey i get it, it's not for everyone. I just happened to see a comment on Ozbargain about it on a Turkey Netflix deal and thought I'd give it a go and it surpassed my expectations, just thought I'd repeat the favour.

            • +1

@MeesusEff: Yeah sorry I wouldn't pay for pirated/downloaded content either, even if someone else does it. The quality control wouldn't be there either.

              Streaming is the future

Same. No email but refund given.
Resub'd more costly yearly.. all history is back.

    • Did you resub with turkey via VPN again?
How do you know they won't cancel again?

      • +2
        1. VPN'd to Turkey
        2. Opened Disney+ app
        3. Resubbed annually for 649 TRY (~$50 AUD)

I don't know if they'll cancel again, but I'll take the chance that they'll refund me if it is cancelled again.

Hey mate, tried that obviously - comes up in AUD

Also tried a lot of other variations of emails, cards, with and without payment methods in google pay.
Given up for now. Thinking a turkey Disney plus giftcard could work, from one of those sites like G2A?

          • @G-rig: Nah I tried the gift card method … still doesn’t work. I’m thinking if you originally signed up in Australia, then something is blocking it I dunno. Its like getting Amazon prime for 90c :) I know it’s not the make as they don’t have as much content but for 90c why not

        • Can you use an Aussie Cc?

          • @ColtNoir: It is an Aussie one and tried all that l.
            NFI mate

      • I just resubbed as well after getting my subscription cancelled. When I logged into my account and selected renew the pricing was in AUD and very expensive, so I followed the steps below taken from this thread - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/744525:

Uninstall Disney+ on my mobile phone.
Opened Google Chrome/browser on my mobile phone then open an incognito window. Set your window to desktop mode.
Search Disney+ on Google Play store in your browser.
Log in on new account and remote install Disney+ to your phone
        Open app on phone

        • You don't need all that steps and hurdles to get to Try pricing, all you need is a spare Android set up with turkish payment method in Google play you can even do that using dual sign in on existing phone but can get fiddly. No vpn no incognito or remote install needed.

        • Is it still working?

  • Resubbed with no issues so far. Opted for monthly for now to test the waters.

  • Yep, same here, but opening the app on my phone gives me the option to resubscribe at their higher rate of 649 TRY (~$52 AUD). I'll try it tomorrow when I can get onto Latitude/28 Degrees about my payment method (credit card) declining…

  • And, I got the refund. lol.

  • I got a refund which was less than what I paid last year. However, it seems like we used the service the whole year for very little fee

    • +1

That difference will be in the exchange rate.

      • +1

        I know

  • got the refund, now to resubscribe…

  • i have got free 12 month of disney and haven’t watched it , what is everyone watching on there

  • Also just succefully renewed for another 12months for 52aud.
No notification to say I receieved a refund though, would that have come as an email?

    Edit, just checked my bank
    Google Disney Mobile Refund $26

  • Use the same method how you get it to re subscribe. Skip creating new account.

eg. Android user start at step 5

  • If you have already used a different Australian card to sign up in the first under an Australian account, can you still use this method? I tried twice with no luck with 2 different cards :(

  • No issues here! it's a miracle!!

I'm not too sure if it's because of A) I cancelled the sub as soon as i signed up. B) because i changed the email for that account. note: I cannot for the life of me remember the email i used for it the first time.

  • I resubbed via a Turkish iTunes account no problem.

  • Same here. Guess it's just rinse and repeat again?

  • Not sure where to ask this but…

I'm subscribed to Disney+ via Turkey. I got an email:

"Disney is increasing the price of your subscription ‘Disney+ (Disney+ Annual Subscription)’ from TRY 349.90/year to TRY 649.90/year starting on 18 June 2023."

Is there any way to renew it before the price rise?
