Uneconomical Return Process for Man Utd Direct AU Store

Bit of a rant….

So I purchased from the "Manchester United Direct AU" store with the understanding that they have a return process. Based on the name, I thought they would have a base in Australia, at least for the return process. Boy was I wrong…. I was made to return to the UK, with a return cost of AUD $34.60 for a jersey.

Hopefully this can serve as a warning to anyone else thinking of purchasing from this store in the future if they also thought there is a return process that is worthwhile.

EDIT: So apparently some people are not clear on which store I was referring to. It is https://store.manutd.com/

Here is the link to their return policy: https://store.manutd.com/en/return-information/ch-1402

Did you check the return policy before ordering? Did you have to return the item?

Return policy didn't mention anything about return postage cost being free or at buyer's expense. It gave the impression that it was a "no questions asked" if returned within 14 days. While I expected possible return cost, I didn't expect needing to send to the UK and costing a whopping $34.60. With a name consisting of "Direct AU" I thought they would have a local presence of sorts

Where did you think a UK based team, playing sport in the UK would base their merch store?!?

        • +5

Seeing that they sell their products in reseller stores Australia wide and has "Direct AU" in their online presence, I wouldn't say it's unreasonable for me to think they also have an Australian presence for their direct sales.

        There is no such store

        • +3

Would have been useful for the OP to include a link to the store they refer to as I can't locate any site with that name.
One or two sites are almost similar but, if the OP is trying to warn people, they really need to be a lot more accurate with the details.

It would also enable us to read the delivery/returns policy to see if the OP actually has a legitimate complaint or not.

@Grunntt: Similar to the Chemist Warehouse ranter but this is at a made-up store

            • @[Deactivated]: Sorry. I thought adding it to the "related store" is enough. Here it is: https://store.manutd.com/

Confirmation email I get has them calling themselves "Manchester United Direct AU"

              • @aaronaldo: lol

You must be really scratching the bottom of the barrel for forum content/PSAs.

      • Apologies. Re-reading their return policy, it does say returns are at buyer's expense. It does however require me to use their preferred courier rather than find my own courier.

        • By the way - whilst browsing their delivery policy it states "Unless otherwise stated, all items are shipped from the United Kingdom" so it's probably worth your time to read these a little more closely.

It also does not state you must use their preferred courier - only that delivery costs will not be returned to you if you did so.

    Lol. What a Messi.

if you ordered it via paypal, put a claim through them and then call them, they may credit your account for the shipping

They cancelled refunded returns a whole ago

Our Refunded Returns service is coming to an end. Starting 27 November 2022, PayPal will no longer accept refund requests for return shipping costs.

Yup. Got me excited for a moment then I saw this:

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727047

        • Never used it myself but it was a nice lil 'insurance' to have. I'm guessing it probably got abused though

i returned something in feb this year after a long dispute with the seller, PayPal kept telling me i had to send it back, while the sellers T&C say they cover it, i called Paypal and explained it and they credited my account the shipping cost

Why didn’t João Cancelo your order

    • +4

Thanks. Like I mentioned above though, it was more a rant and a PSA for others. They didn't do anything illegal, but they probably know their return policy is not really usable for those in Australia

        Sounds misleading.

Should have just sold it on Marketplace to someone else who's a fan of Olympic level diving.

  • Look at you lot coming out of the woodwork, pockets brimming with jokes. I think this shows there's a lacking of EPL deals on ozbargain

    • +1

You gonna link the store or what?

      • +1

Tough crowd. I guess linking it in the related store section is not enough for some. https://store.manutd.com/

        • Probably because we don't want to make assumptions, as it doesn't seem to say "Direct AU Store" anywhere? Nothing suggest it's a based in Aust, it's not even a com.au website…

  • +1

Should a shop be held liable for the OP selecting the wrong size? Sometimes you just have to live with your mistakes.

    • +1

Never said they were liable, but like many online stores, they give the impression of free exchange to entice people to choose them instead of going to a brick and mortar stores where you can try before you buy

      • +1

I can agree with you, a little misleading but that is always the case for online stores, returning things can be a pain. This is the problem when online, just because you can order it, doesn't mean you can get all the perks from being in the same country. Especially in aus as we are so isolated.

  • They're great at soccer.

  • Can't see"Direct AU Store" anywhere, and whole website screams international/overseas.

    • It was in the confirmation emails they had sent me. That said, my opinion when posting was skewed by my emotions. I agree I made the mistake of not checking properly before buying.
