China's PinDuoDuo Is Coming to Australia as Temu

Have been receving quite a few Google ads about Temu these few days. Things on their site look pretty cheap. Has anyone purchased anything from it? Please share your experience.

  • Oof good luck to all those dropshippers. Wonder how litb is gonna go.

Also, wasn't there something about the app stealing data?

    • The PinDuoDuo App has been found to be doing so; https://edition.cnn.com/2023/04/02/tech/china-pinduoduo-malw…

Dude I am assuming you are using google. They are the biggest stealers of data. You should be least concerned about this app if you are already using google.

      • Lmao comparing the ccp to google. Yeah ok "buddy"

        • +3

Oh ok so you comfortable with NSA having your data but not CCP?

          • -3

@ninohax: Uhuh so you want to spread your info to everyone? Might as well walk around naked with that thinking. Who cares right?

I suppose you see the world in black and white. But hey if you prefer to live in China, go ahead. I know where I'd rather be.

            Anw enough time wasted here.

@mbck: No need for racism, let's be real, he made valid points.
What exact "data" are the "CCP" going to steal that is not already pretty much in the public domain? And what are they going to do with it? Target you with advertising in conjunction with all the other targeted advertising?

I have never heard of Temu before, I visited this page for less than a minute, went back to YouTube and there was a Temu ad.
That was the big Google spying on me not a the Chinese government.

China has no jurisdiction over us and can do no harm to us Australians.
The US and their companies can and do harm Australians, see Friendlyjordies recent "I didn't want to make this video".

          • @ninohax: You are right, I said black lives matter and the cops visited my parents and forced me to delete my posts on Weibo.

Hey "guy", who you calling "buddy"?

        • -1

when the ccp gives better price/quality than your govt… Almost everything i've ordered from Aliexpress has been well made and not flimsy like cheap stores. They also have many new items that are not available here. They do things like sell cheap contact lenses whereas the price is literally 100x here.

    • whats litb

  • Looks pretty good, prices cheaper than ebay.

  • +1

Prices are cheaper than aliexpress from what I can see.

They got me with the sign-up offer to get this bag for $2.92 AUD. The catch is you need minimum $10 AUD to check out. So I found a bunch of stuff I can use around the house to make up the value. Still waiting for the package but experience wise it has been good so far.

I got slapped with international transaction fee on my credit card but that was on me for using a card that charged the fee.

    Delivery 12 April 2023 - 15 April 2023
Get a AU$5 credit within 48 hours if delivered after Apr 15.

If I remember I will update here when my package arrives.

      Damn no Pagani design speedy

    • @CodeXD Did your package arrive?

      • +1

Yes it did! Everything was very well packaged and I've been using it all for ~2 weeks, no issues.

I've made two transactions so far this weekend. Expected shipping time seems more impressive than aliexpress. One thing I also like is the "price reduction" policy. One item I bought dropped by $1.50, the claim for refund was super easy.

Some items are cheaper than Ali, but not all things are.

I guess landfill was taken as a business name?

Temu Australia was launched almost a month ago. See past deals and my experience with delivery so far — IMHO better than AliExpress.

However with Pinduoduo app recent discovery of maliciously exploiting Android vulnerabilities to spy on its users, we do need to be weary of this company.

  • What does Temu stand for ?

    • it's Algonquin for "the good land."

    • This is the answer from ChatGPT:

PinDuoDuo's "Temu" is an internal team within the company that focuses on the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to enhance the platform's user experience and operational efficiency. As far as I know, "Temu" is not an acronym and does not stand for any specific phrase or term. It is simply a name chosen by the company for this particular team.

  • Getting a tonne of ads for this place on the socials. Will be interesting to see how they go, prices look decent but only annoying thing is that there's $15 minimum order amount.

  • Very interesting to say the least
In true OzBargain spirit, hopefully ShopBack and/or Cashrewards jump on them and offer a nice introductory cashback offer sooner or later

I recently read this article about elevated levels of toxins in cheap clothing and accessories. I'm reluctant.
    https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/marketplace-fast-fashion-ch…

    • I don’t buy clothes, toys, chargers, or anything which touches food on these platforms (same on eBay), but I’m happy get to a few cheap mainly battery powered electronic gadgets to muck around with.

  • How is it possible for them to do free shipping?

    • there is a minimum order value

      • How does AliE do free shipping on a $1 order?

  • +4

So, received my first order. Minimum order value now seems to be $30. Arrived very quickly and reasonable quality.

One thing to be wary of though, unlike AliExpress which bills you via an Australian account, Temu bills you from overseas so got hit with international transaction fees. Less than $1 but still annoying.

  • Received my items in 1 week. Got $25 off voucher on $50 order and my 3 freebies. Pretty good start.

  • I've been using it. minimum spend was $15.
it's good alternative to AliExpress. pretty much similar products and prices.

they do a lot of scam ads with showing cheap product but when you click it's a lot more. old tactics but works :)
