I remember when they used to be manufactured in Australia, and it lasted for years, during my high school years and in the army cadets.
These overseas-manufactured ones simply do not have the same level of durability and thickness of thread, so it no longer provides adequate cushioning after a lesser amount of use.
Very disappointed that the brand's reputation, that had produced quality products in the past, has been permanently tarnished.
For the last 15 years, I have not been able to acquire a pair of affordable and durable cushioning socks, that had matched the same standards as the original Australian-manufactured Holeproof Explorer socks.
Wool steel socks. Sounds uncomfortable. š

Wool/nylon blend. These are hard wearing, warm and comfortable. Good with boots.

How do they go with boots though?
They are warm, must have in the winters. I don't put heater on with these socks, warm enough for me lol
For wet environment, what is better? The cotton ones or these?
Wool is much better than cotton at retaining heat when wet. Given that Bonds don't advertise the percentage of wool in this blend I'd guess it's pretty low and wouldn't take a chance.
Look for 70 - 80% wool in the blend for decent socks.
I got these on a previous deal. Iām not happy with the quality. I prefer the wool blend work socks from Kmart. Much better quality than these.

The 5 pairs in last deal are not the same as the old pairs I still have in sock drawer.
