That Counter Source Complete pack is excellent value! If I didn't already own them all, I'd be smashing that "Buy" button.

    • if you purchase the pack as a gift do you get them separately or does it store as one "Complete Pack"?

      • +2

1 pack - i.e. is a single 'redeem' button and adds them all.
Hence not as useful if person has a few as can't stack or gift copies already owned.

    • -1

Not worth it as there aren't as many players online then back in its hay day.

      • +1

It's still one of the most popular games on Steam…

        • Thats if you play in Nth America and Europe etc servers and we can't since we lag like crazy.
In Aus its died a lot down,I used to play on full severs at odd times in the day but now only peak hours are PM Fridays-Sundays, and occasional weekdays.

        • +4

I don't know if you're serious or not? There are full servers from 9am up until 2am. I've never had to resort to playing a server from another country. The only time you'd be hard-pressed finding a server was if you were banned from Internode/IPGN/GameArena…

        • +2

          +1

Servers are available all the time. Granted the maps are evolving to the more hardcore styles, but I'm still able to find a good solid Ddust or assault game.

Pre-ordering gives you access to the beta from August 14th.

  • Pretty sure it would come as one pack just like every other pack.

on behalf of all pc gamers, heres a neg for insulting one of the great grandfathers of FPS
      no lecture neccessary

    • +3

      Just stick to COD

      • +1

        Now I know your trolling.

CS:GO was created on the PC, the source engine is a PC engine which was ported to consoles.

Even if they never intended for it to be a PC game (which it was) it would still be a PC game ported to console because its a PC engine.

PC is actually gaining in popularity

The fact that your attitude to gaming is a brief bit of quick fun means that your a casual gamer and should be on the xbox with your call of duty.

Anyone who plays FPS with a controller is a casual gamer.

        • +5

          Simply No.

Valve had the idea and perhaps even started development on a CS:Source port for the xbox 360. Then they changed their mind and made CS:GO for all platforms using the source engine which makes it a PC game ported for consoles.

Its impossible to say the game has been ported, it just shows that you don't understand and you wouldn't because your just some casual gamer who thinks he knows something about gaming.

Your entire justification is trying to convince yourself that your more mature now so playing on Console suits you better? Console is where the kids are.

Most adult gamers use a PC as their main gaming machine, especially as adults can afford a good PC, one of the reasons kids have consoles as well as the fact that consoles don't require kids to know how to use a computer or a keyboard/mouse.

        • +3

How does it feel to be wrong in every single post you make?

You don't understand what porting means

You don't understand what happened with CS:Source, The xbox 360 port and CS:GO

You were never a hardcore gamer, you were likely just some kid who had nothing better to do then play video games. Most male kids play video games and think they are experts, it doesn't make it so.

As I said, go back to COD where you might be able to say something about the game and actually be correct for once. You keep calling yourself a casual gamer etc, but you are trying to act like you know something? Make up your mind!

        • -4

I understand porting. I have agreed Source was ported to 360 (along with xbox 1 and ps3). But the changes that were written for the 360 version of CS:S were ported back to PC. It may have been easy as both are running the same engine, but it doesn't change the fact that SOME of the 360 work is now in the PC version of CS:GO.

Of course I was just some kid playing video games. As opposed to what? Do you make a living of playing video games? I find it hilarious how serious you think playing digital make believe is, it's entertainment, nothing more. Dude, your not better than anyone. Your sitting on your ass clicking a mouse and pressing a keyboard. There's nothing special about it.

Unless your a professional Korean, it's just a hobby. Nothing more. Get over yourself because it truly is sad.

        • +3

GOLD..made day just go a bit faster.

Not sure about the other stuff but the "PC dying platform" LOL, it is actually the opposite. Consoles are losing ground to mobile devices ect because people who are looking for a "causal" game experience can get it much more cheaply and more accessible.

        • +2

Paintoad, you still don't understand porting or the difference between a real gamer and a casual/kid gamer.

          Go back to COD.

        • -2

Explain to me what a "real" gamer is? Someone who doesn't have life outside of video games? Come on, tell me idiot.

        • For starters a real gamer is someone who doesn't primarily play FPS with a controller.

        • double post

I know it's hard, samfisher - but you have to try to ignore this guy. He is honestly one of the most irritating users on this website and refuses to go away and see how wrong he is. You, I, and all the people negging this guy can see how idiotic he is so I guess we just have to find solace in that.

        • -1

I guess I have to accept I'll never be as worthy as you because you sit on your ass with a mouse in your hand whereas I only use a controller. Clearly your so hardcore with your little video games. Your so cool! I'm so jealous!

        • Johnno, I said right from the start I just wanted to know if anyone had news on the 360 version and that I didn't want a lecture. But no, this guy couldn't resist insulting me because I play on a kiddy console.

        • Popcorn time. Paintoad, you should really pay attention in class when YOUR teacher is teaching the difference between YOUR and YOU'RE.

        • I guess I'm the only one here that can agree to most of PainToad's comments.

A lot of adults especially parents have moved to become a console gamers. Especially since they don't have the time to boot up their PC and keep themselves up-to-date with the latest technology.

SamFisher, you might think that the video game industry revolves around the hardcore gamers.

Apparently not. Casual gamers are making them more money. There are plenty of research/articles about how most games are never finished due to more people becoming distracted with the technology and choose to be a casual gamer.

I have known someone who used to be a hardcore PC Gamer. Once he got married he became a console gamer so his wife can see him getting out of his room. Once he has kids, he became even more casual and only plays games on his iPad.

Now, if you look at the average consumers of iDevices which are between the age of 25-35 then compare it with what most gaming portals (such as Steam, etc) claimed that most of its users are of the same age group then you will think that if you belong in that age group and you don't finish most of your games, then you are normal. The same game portals also reported that based on their achievements tracking, most of these users on this age group don't finish their games.

So, in the end, the gamers age group who make the most purchases don't end up finishing their games (even though they still buy them). And ending up playing casual games.

Now, SamFisher, are you in that age group yet? If you are below that, well, the gaming industry is not making much money from your age group who usually only buy 1 or 2 games a year and focus on it too much (play the full 40-hours RPG story, or play tournament ladders in online games). If you are in that age group, well you are not common.

In the end, most game publishers (not developers) care more about the money. You will every now and then read comments and rants about how short or simple a game is. Games are now being made more flashy and simple instead of deep and complex. You might need to start looking at the sales figures.

You might be keen on having this kind of debate. I used to. I used to be a hardcore gamer like PainToad. But in the end, you grow-up/old. And you will eventually belong in the age group that made the most money for the game industry. And once you're there, you shut up because you buy games, play them for a while, get distracted, buy another game, play, distracted, and keep on buying. You will eventually care less about how a game was ported or not from PC/console

I'm not here to pick side or perform a console fan-boyism attitude. But you need to know where the money is at.

I would buy CS:GO on PC. Mainly because it's fun to shoot someone. Its simpler than most other PC FPS these days. I don't care about the ranks.

-says the person who rejected a couple of private game testing in the past from well-known publishers due to focusing on his career.

I know you PC gamers people couldn't resist defending your dying platform.

        PC -> dying platform?
So… you're on Ozbargain on an Xbox 360 then?
        Ozbargain is a game too, of You-snooze-you-lose, bargain-edition :D

      • Brief bit of time = CS
Leveling up for months and playing hardcore to keep up = COD

+ve this as it's a good deal, but I won't be buying this.

Pretty average game at the moment, needs a lot of work imo.

Coming from a CS player since 1.6.

Been in the beta for a few months.

But I guess for 14.99, you can't expect much.

    • I have shared feelings about it. I've been playing CS since the version where everyone was left handed (I think 1.1 or 1.2) and the beta really feels like a beta. Not too good.

      • +2

I agree. Im starting to think they should put the Counter strike series to bed. I would prefer to remember it as a game i played hours at a time back in the day rather than a rubbish sequel

        • -1

Thank god it wasn't just me. I think CSS was better even if it had slightly 'bigger heads'.

      • Considering Valve has a reputation for keeping their games constantly up to date with new features I'd say this isn't the end product.

  • CS:GO is lacking so much content, a lot of the cool stuff I've heard about isn't present in the beta so I can only hope it turns out to be a good game.

The beta also isn't really worth playing because unless you have a full team you have to play with annoying bots, and you can generally only find a few servers with a full team.

  • +2

I was a huge fan of 1.6 and CS:S (a bigger fan than most of the latter it seems) but for the sake of a saving a $1.50 I don't see much point in buying until you see how the community receives it.

  • I was going to buy this but will wait to see if it is adequate for competition.
Having played CS since Beta 1.0, CSS was a let down competition wise and I suspect this will be similar.

    • +1

This is mostly made for competition, it plays like you would expect for a competition.

    • +2

I started with beta 3.0 and played in WCG… but didn't go very far. Tonnes of mad skills players. I didn't like inability to shoot through walls of CS:S. CS 1.6 is where i belong.

I still remember the 14 hour training days cramped up in a LAN shop. "Fun" times.

      • Lol but its so realistic to shoot through walls!
Annoying though got spawn killed from that wall in cs_assault a couple of times. -.-

        • hated when that happened..specially when you joined mid-game and boom you're dead.

        • +3

Yes… it's so realistic running around carrying a AWP and scoping it handheld standing up.

It is also so realistic jumping from 5 stories high landing into water knee high and not breaking a leg, much less feeling stunned.

It's so bloody realistic being able to crouch jump from side to side and move faster than Usain Bolt.

Oh not forgetting the ability to walk in the sky as well! I can do that in real life!

DUDE. It's A GAME. In real life terrorists don't have bomb spots marked with an X nor do SWAT teams decide to pick up AK47s just because the recoil is so much more fun. People don't run around wielding an AWP whilst clearing buildings nor do hostages not know how to open a door or stand around you whilst taking gunfire.

        • dafuq why so serious? my comment was just light-hearted, someone takes things a bit to seriously.

        • I'm giving the positive your lengthy reply was chasing.

  • Have they fixed the abysmal netcode in the sauce engine yet?

  • Can you still surf and have mods like WCS/RPG??

Surfing maps were where i spent most of my time playing

    • I'm sure mods will come out for it

  • Is there a chance this could be 25% off as a launch day special?
I seem to remember Portal 2 pricing changing around at release, could be wrong though!

    • Never seen this sort of thing before so I doubt it.

      • Thought about it, and it's only thinking too much about a couple of dollars.
        Bought it :)

  • +1

hmm so is the $13.49 for the complete game when it's released, or a beta/trial? I'm abit confused and out of the loop with CS: GO - i've been an old school CS player as well so I haven't been following the development story.

Sigh.. so many memories, I too remember those hours on end in a day playing.. now times have moved on and works got me strangled by the neckline! Youngster days ftw!

    • For the complete game, you also get access to the beta

      • Nice! Although I never played the beta it doesn't seem to have received a warm welcoming above? If its only $1.50 savings and $15 normally one might think it'd be better to see how the end product finishes perhaps?

Does steam usually up its prices once it launches (e.g. pre-discount price now is $15.. when it launches does it ever go up?)… $15 seems quite cheap for a complete new game? Although hey.. i'm not complaining?

  • My child is waiting in anticipation for this release. Steam has a good record in refining the game and experience over time so the investment is worthwhile.
