Ardbeg 8 Year Old For Discussion 'Committee Release' + Bonus Tumbler $115 + $15 Delivery ($0 with $200 Order) @ Ardbeg Committee

770

This is not a "deal" deal, but other places are selling this for $125 to $250 without the tumbler (which is terrible but it's free)

I have shit on Ardbeg, Dr Bill and LVMH every chance I get, like writing actual novels on how their new shit sucks. But I've tried this and it's a great young Ardbeg bottled at 50.8%, and $115 is a decent price in today's market. This shits all over the 10, An Oa and 5yo Wee Beastie imo.

Forget about the "For Discussion" and "Committee Release", it's just marketing BS. Those terms used to mean something but it's not really for discussion or exclusive to the Ardbeg Committee when 20 other retailers are selling it to the unwashed masses.

I don't know how much delivery is because I bought 2.

need a few more f and c bombs sprinkled through to illustrate the point imo but I got the gist of it.

      • +5

I used to be able to drop f bombs in posts, then the mods took it away

        Can't is the real C-word

Ardbeg is one of my favorites. Purchased a bottle with my remaining pound sterling before boarding a flight home from Heathrow in 2001. Fan of smokey ever since.

    I only got 1. Shipping $15

How does this compare to Talisker 10YO? (my preferred drop).

      • +2

        A lot more smoke :)

      • +2

I’m a Talisker man myself as well (definitely the 10YO - not the Stormy stuff). The Ardberg is a great drop for chilly winter evenings. It’ll certainly warm you up

      • +3

I like Talisker too, but I mostly prefer peatier whiskies, so Ardbeg beats Talisker for me. I haven't tried this one though, but a feisty 50% dram from them sounds good to me.

      • +2

I have Talisker 10YO when I don't feel like something smokey.

I have a huge stash of Uigeadail and Corryvreckan, so hoping this For Discussion is good

        • Corryvreckan is magnificent. I only have one bottle left which I bought on special before the recent price hikes.

    • Thanks, updated

Cannot endorse or upvote the potty mouth.

You sir, are a poor example to other aspiring drunks and need to get off the drink…

Slight side question, why have whiskeys gone up a lot in price?

    • Tax hike in Feb…….

      • 2021?

Alc prices went up over a year ago and then some

        • The excise on alcohol goes up twice (I think?) every year. Our taxaholic government rapes us over here, especially on alcohol.

          • +2

@Fappo: There's been a significant jump in the last 1-2 years, which isn't answered by usual increases.

I'm at the point where buying more isn't worth it.

Have maybe 8-10 unopened whiskies and a few opened.

            We used to get lagavulin 16 for $60-80. Now it's $140-200? 🤦‍♂️

            • @nismo: Yeah, it's some bullshit alright. Even Johnnie Black is now a $50+ whisky.

Tastes like drinking a camp fire

Thanks OP, I've been keeping an eye on "deals" for good peated whiskys!

  • +1

If you find it too peaty, use to cut another whisky that has no peat to it …..at the end of the day the product you buy was distilled and made by a distiller to make a product how they think it should taste, and taste is a personal thing, and keep on searching till you find what you like without having to blend your own ……

  • How does it compare to the uigeadail?

    • +2

Oogie, even without an age statement, it much more refined with the sherry notes, but still packs a punch. This is pure king-hit-you-on-the-back-of-the-head Ardbeg at it's best. I haven't bought an Ardbeg for around 10 years.

      • +1

This is very close to Oogie in enjoyment(albeit very different palettes). Oogie used to be the pick of the range with Corry but not at 180ish price. This reminds me of what 10 yo used to be like. Miss those days along with $100 Indie Caol Ila NAS cask strengths

        • Even Caol Ila IBs are getting up there, 12yo IBs were about $100 maybe 5 years ago. I checked my emails and I got a single cask CS Coal Ila 30 for 200EUR in 2015.

I picked up a 9yo single cask, not even CS, but watered down to 48.9% ABV Caol Ila recently for $123. And that's 25% off rrp of $165! But it's marsala matured and I like weird shit

"8 Year Old For Discussion", this happens to be the Dalai Lamas favourite drink.

    • It burns the tongue if you don't wet it down

      • Thanks for the tip. How about the whisky though?

        • +1

          Not sure. Don't drink

    • Do they taste better or are they getting expired over time? confuse me

It's a good one. Good price. I think I rated it much higher than Ardcore.

Speaking of… you had the B&B Michel Couvreur Grand Frere 2020?

  • I haven't even tried Arrrrrdcore because what's the point? Their last good release was Ardbog

    Michel Couvreur

Hard pass. I've tried enough of his shit. Some of it is not bad but plenty of better IBs that cost less

    • Haha. If you change your mind, I can supply a sample. But I suspect you won't be impressed…

    Anyone's order shipped?

    • Yeah, the packaging is way over the top.

      • I’m asking them for a tracking number. It shows fulfilled yesterday. Don’t know which courier.

        • Who cares about tracking, you'll get it when you get it.

          • @rosebank: In fairness, it’s at least as relevant as the packaging…

        • did they give you a tracking number? I didn't receive a shipping notification. But it shows fulfilled on the account.

          • @Pepito: They do . If you need to know the tracking number, just send them an email to ask.

            • @Lol321: @Lol321 thanks! I'll shoot them an email now

            • +1

              @Lol321: Just received mine today!

      • Atleast it is not a couple of bottles clinking around in a flimsy Mainfreight wine box. Don't know how they didn't end smashing most bottles in transit when they were doing that.

    • Still havent received mine and no replys to any emails. Does anyone know if they have a contact number?
