Pioneer VSX-521 5.1ch HD AV Receiver (Refurbished) $166.50 Delivered from Pioneer on-Line Store

550
Pioneer

Using the discout code "Pioneer" (without the " ") will get you 25% off the advertised price of this receiver from the Pioneer on-line store.

These units are covered by a 1 year manufacturer warranty.

Edit: whilst this model has sold out it appears the code works for other receivers too, but I don't know weather this makes other units a bargain after the 25% discount.

    Nice find!

    • Dude did you read the OP's post? Apply the discount code?

        • hehe nevermind you figured it out? I was responding to your original post of "it shows 222.00 on the page"

        • -7

          :)

        • +2

          sneaky tightarse!

  • Just grabbed one, even though this is entry level, for this price I can't miss.

  • +1

Not bad - I ordered one! I have a 5.1 setup but my old amp doesn't have HDMI or support the HD audio formats… so this will be a straight swap over and I'll be able to use HDMI from my HTPC, PS3 and 360. :)

    • Watch it if you're running Winblows on your HTPC, some receivers cause handshake probs and you end up with erratic resolutions as Winblows starts having a brain meltdown. I had these issues with 2 different HTPC (and receiver) setups, and in both cases, I've bypassed my receiver and run HDMI straight from the HTPC to the TV, and utilised optical from the HTPC to the receiver for D/A.

  • 24 left. Going fast

  • I'm thinking of getting a soundbar. Would this amp connect to it okay?

  • better to run this from your computer than those gimmicky PC sound cards.

  • +2

Little Hint: this code seems to be working on all their receivers….

    • -1

nice…too bad $55 off the $10k SCLX90 is still outta my budget :S

      http://shop.pioneer.com.au/shop-online/home-entertainment/am…

      HOLD that thought!

      Subtotal: $10,999.00
      Total discount: -$2,749.75
      Order total: $8,249.25

      Still outta my budget…daaaayam!

So the "Pioneer" code is a 25% discount code? Wonder if it works on all their stuff..hmmm

      • Nope, doesn't work on other stuff…

  • Thanks OP!! was considering getting one form the site about 2hrs ago
    Now ordered

    Spewing !!!
So close but no cigar :-(
    Thanks anyway OP !!

Any suggestion? What are the good match of speakers that can go with this amp and sound good?

  • I used the code on a different model amp (VSX-826, refurbished) and got the discount. All up $291.75 delivered. That will do me

  • i got one :) cheers for the heads up

  • Now that I have purchased, time to try and justify why.
I have z623 Logitech currently connected to my TV av output which works OK but doesn't allow for adjustment in volume. Also I have numerous HDMI inputs that I would like to switch between.
Can I still use these speakers with my new unnecessary amp, or do I need standalone speakers?

    • Seems like a waste, but you can use your existing speakers, just plug them into the headphone jack of the Amp…

      • +1

Oz-Wastage…I have no doubt that it is a waste, but as long as it works for the time being until I get an ozbargain deal for nice speakers, your tip will work. Thanks!
Plus it will also solve my HDMI switching and volume control issues.

I'll keep a lookout for good value 2.1 speaker options for it now.

        • Probably unlikely to find suitable speakers here..
Speakers that get posted here are 99% computer amplified jobs not that different from your current set.
You're looking for proper bookshelf speakers (or bigger), plus a proper sub.

        • Cheers…so what am I losing by using the Z623 temporarily through the amp?
I still get my control through the amp, I just lose out on sound quality and effects, such as DTS etc?

  • I got one, thanks!

  • Nice one. missed this one, but hey, I get to keep my cash :)

  • +1

great deal, I was hovering over the complete transaction button for a while before deciding i didn't NEED this

hopefully that sale went to a worthy ozbargainer

    • +1

I did the same but still click the submit button

  • Does anybody want mine, think I might sell it, pickup in North Sydney or City

    • Yeah I'd like it.

    • Turn on your pm's/pm me

  • If anyone has buyers remorse in Melbourne, let me know and I'll take it off your hand (will pick up). thanks :)

  • -8

are these worth reselling on ebay?

    • Yep, for the same price you pay, sure!

    • Lol, make a profit and take away a bargain from another ozb member. Really nice.

  • Happy to take one off someones hands if they decide they don't want it around Newcastle/Central Coast/Hunter Valley

    • Think I'll sell it.

      • No worries please send me through your details so we can keep in touch and I can arrange pickup. Thanks

      • Turn on your pm's/pm me.

Picked up a VSX-521 from JB for $243 a couple of months ago. Anyone that is in the market for one of these and managed to snag one will not be disappointed! Nice piece of kit for the money…

  • Anyone in Melbourne who has buyers remorse, please sell it to me, I'll pick it up and will pay you $200.

  • If anyone in inner Sydney wants to offload one as well, let me know and I will come and buy it off you. Thanks

  • Ditto for Brisbane Area if you dont really need it….THX!!

  • Pioneer adds inputs to facilitate HDMI appliances, which provides neater solution than dealing with a clutter of RCA cable. Main reason I looked into this receiver.

You can also bring-to-date / recycle, perfectly good (old) amplifier. Way I use is to feed in digital by
    Digital Optical Coax Toslink to Analog Audio Converter @~AU $18, then just add;
6.5Ft Digital Optical Fiber Toslink Audio Cable 2M AU $1.68. Total- $20.00.

Cheap stop gap, but fits the job nicely. Otherwise, VSX-521 goes @~250AUD on OzB every so often.

  • Shattered I missed this :(

  • Good deal, I'm thinking of getting a slightly high end end model for 7.1, does anyone know if you can set these amps to run 8 ohm speakers? My current old Yamaha amp can be set for 4,6,8 ohm speakers.

  • THE DEAL OF THE DAY (WHICH THIS WAS EARLIER TODAY) HAS NOW CHANGED TO ANOTHER MODEL IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED.

    oops sorry for shouting

    http://shop.pioneer.com.au/shop-online/home-entertainment/am…

    • 7 in stock.
      7.1CH AVR.
      $599.00@VSX826.

      • +2

$449.25 after using the discount code

    • Mmm, when I saw the original VSX-521 appear, I looked at the 521 then the 826, both new and refurbished. Went with the refurb 826 as the 25% disc still applied.

I am pretty sure I saw the new 826 at $599 back then so not really a deal if the price didn't change.
IMO It is a deal with the discount code but I tried other amps and could use the discount on them, does that make them all deals?

  • If you are after bang for buck speaker for VSX-521, get

    Yamaha NS P285 http://www.binglee.com.au/yamaha-ns-p285-5-1ch-speaker-packa…

    I negotiate a deal $160 delivered after showing http://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/yamaha-ns-p285

    or

$188 for HS50 SUB SATELLITE SPEAKER PACK
    http://shop.pioneer.com.au/shop-online/home-entertainment/sp…

    • If anyone is interested in the HS50 pack, I'm selling this pack without the sub for $120 delivered. They are in mint condition and were bundled together with a Pioneer amp I bought previously. I don't need them as I already have speakers. The sub is not included as it would be impractical from a postage cost point of view as it weighs a shitload. Just set the speakers to Larger in your amp so that the bass goes through your speakers as well.

Don't think you'll find any better speakers from a quality brand at this price!

      Let me know.

      • What state?

        • Darwin,NT

The lower price reflects the sub not being included.

  • Was the "PIONEER" code found on their website?

  • -3

    refurbished, yuck.

  • The 521 is the old model as the 522 has come out this month.

You might be able to haggle other stores if they still got 521 on shelf.

  • I had one in the cart at lunch time but backed out, so tempting but don't really need it :)

  • +1 for "(without the " ")" without the " " of course! :D

  • 1 in-stock.. !!

    • was this morning, gone!!

  • +1

Got mine in the mail today!

    • what state are you in?
Edit: Found it. I'm in NSW so expect it early next week.

    • mine too, pleasantly suprised just how good this unit is, didnt really need it but for $166 BRILLIANT

For those who missed out on this deal. I have found one from GUMTREE.COM.AU!

    http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/box-hill/audio/brand-new-pion…

    Good Luck!

  • Just got the 826 for $291.75 thanks

    • How did you get that, did they have more in stock yesterday?

  • Keen to buy one if someone realised they don't need it

  • coupon doesnt work anymore… if anyone wants to offload one i am keen…

  • Ended up ordering the VSX1020 with the discount code for $357.75, and they sent me a VSX1021 because they ran out of 1020's. Got to love a free upgrade. :)
