  • Did you come across this site or do you actually run it? :)

I guess the question is — how can we be sure that those CD keys are legit? You might need to have a section dedicated to that on your website so your visitors can be confident about that.

      Good research, scotty :)

Those not familiar with Whirlpool might note that CD-Keys Direct/Cartmanizm's Aura is "Pervasively Low", which is as low as it can be (short of banned). Aura is not an official measure of anything, however:

Users with an Aura ranking that is prefixed with the word "Pervasively" have received a large amount of votes from other users (300+), and as such their Aura is likely to be highly representative of the collective community opinion of them.

You might, for instance, receive low aura votes for claiming to have "come across a popular site" when in fact you own said site …

Interestingly, a CD-Keys Direct — Trustworthy? thread was started on Whirlpool around the same time this deal was posted. Nothing conclusive in that discussion so far.

      • The low aura was for participating in many debates in which some users may not have agreed with me. Also, the big Asus thread I created a year ago sparked some discontent within some users. And no, aura does not effect the standing of the account and does not mean "short of banned".

  • Actually I run it.

This guy bought one, you can message him if you want.
That link you posted is a link to my account… I've been around for a long time, not going anywhere anytime soon.

    • Something fishy about this. Nothing conclusive, however:

"Came across this coupon code of a popular site …"

      "Actually I run it."

Juvenile and unprofessional rep/owner behaviour = instant -1 from me, regardless of any other issues.

      • My same thoughts. If there's not something odd going on, then someone who does run the site should come out and say that straight away.

What benefit is there hiding when the info, as Scotty found, is freely available?

  • Here we go. Before when I used to sell on eBay:
    http://feedback.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&f…

Scroll down through a lot of feedback and you will see
"Great eBayer, swift payment, well recommened. Thanks from www.cdkeysdirect.com"
    in some of em.

    100% positive feedback

  • Guys legit, i've done some business with him. But yea that section could come in handy.

  • I doubt if this is legit, I mean, you will get the CD key and everything, but i doubt that this legal. Last time I checked big game distributors don't make special deals with small websites… it wouldn't be hard to download a keygen and say every serial is unique, thus it must be legit…

    • In response to that, CD-Keys generated from key generators do NOT work online. The CD-Keys I sell are brand new and unique and you can register them on the official website.

  • ybad has been a member for 2 hours? sorry, if u are a real user, but yeah, your validation doesnt help us that much,
like, i would worry about that site, seems too cheap for a start, and although the keys may work online, doesnt mean they are legal…

    • ybad has been a member for 2 hours?

The ybad account was created 9 minutes after Cartmanizm. In any event, scotty has the means to check IP addresses for unauthorised multiple accounts and the final say is his.

      • And that ybad account posted a minute after Cartmanizm..seems real coincidental.

  • i would remove this deal until we figure out if it is legit, to stop ozbargain members from possibly giving over there CC numbers…

  • Doubtful how one would close their eBay account voluntarily. Plus owner tries to hide everything from their domain whois info by registering through proxy http://whois.domaintools.com/cdkeysdirect.com. Highly doubtful of its legitimacy. Users be warned!!

Prove me wrong and I will be happily revoke my vote.

  • Do these guys buy legit games etc from 3rd world countries where distributors sell legit games much cheaper because of low local wages / poor currency etc, then just resell the keys here in Oz for a margin?

Is this how the system works ?

  • Im voting negative simply because he pretended it wasn't his site

  • Steer clear. If it was legit then why does he try to conceal his identity. Mark my words, in a few weeks or months this website will be gone, leaving behind many unhappy customers.

  • I would vote this negative however as i knocked positive its not possible for me to "revote" (i could only revoke it)

I'm voting -1 simply because he tried to trick us into thinking he wasn't the owner of the site

  • Isn't there some sort of legality within the games' EULAs that would prevent this? I know MS has it for Windows so it might well be for these games too. I guess you wouldn't know if it was illegal or not (even if the keys are legit) because you're not getting anything with any of the keys.

  • One question I have is — if this shop sells on the CD keys, then where do I actually get the CD (or content of the CD)? Can they be downloaded legitimately from somewhere? The website assumes that people would just download the pirated copies — which is simply not the case.

    • Games listed under "EA Downloader" can be registered to EA Games and downloaded from their download manager. As for the rest, there are cases when for example, their CD-Key is banned by Punkbuster for cheating online. They need a new CD-Key to be able to play but don't wish to buy another copy of the game, as they already have the game installed.

Other than that, they can borrow the media off a friend, after all, it is the license key that holds the right to use the software, or in this case, game.

  • Just out of interest, isn't the a mechanism for purchasing CD-keys only without the media, say if you're the owner of an internet cafe? Otherwise they'd have like a hundred retail copies…

I highly doubt that the guy's going to give away his business model so that other people can just copy what he's doing. Not that it's unique or anything, but it's like knowing that something could be had for cheaper, and that you're making money by putting a margin on it.

Everybody knows it happens, but nobody likes it.

    • I believe what you are referring to is Volume Licensing.

    • Actually in the Whirlpool thread linked above, he did reveal his business model. Those keys were bought from some "wholesaler" so indeed he is making on the margin. The source of the keys are from countires where the legitimate games can be bought cheaper, and from games with damaged packaging, etc.
