        It's not a mind blowing bourbon but for $110 it's good value, actually brings it close to alignment with US pricing which is something to get excited about with these harder to find bottles in Australia.
        Then you see stuff like Rittenhouse Rye which is practically free in the USA but $100 here and the pricing locally is impossible to make any sense of.

        The 12 is a nice lead into Sherry Whisky, better than the the Macallan Classic Cut. My comment was specifically about the 21 i ordered. If you can get the 12 from about 80-85. Unfortunately all prices are inflated now. I did pick up some Redbreast Lustau for $75 a bottle the other day

        No. Had cardhu 11yo SE 2020. Was trash. I really did not enjoy their 12yo OB so I was not surprised. I can't see 14yo SE 2021 being much off the trail. So I won't bother. Unless it was free.

      I think everyone knows the risks. I drink over a dozen standard drinks a day, not bragging, it's a serious issue I'm working on with my doctors. I had my liver checked out recently and it's still holding up. I tried several non alcoholic beers and they are disgusting. I drink beers all day like soda water. I only have 3 open bottles of whisky at home, but about 50 botlles in a cage at a bar, so I have to make an effort to get dressed and go out in public, so that rarely happens.

      Meh, sugar is still worse considering that most people don't drink alcohol to excess whereas we consume refined sugars and carbs in way too high quantities (without most people actually realising it). The notion that small amounts of alcohol are unsafe is exaggerated and would not surprise me that the research is missing / ignoring the second order effects.

    Any recs for a whisky newbie to try alongside the Glengoyne CS from this week? A lot of the previous whiskies I've tried were quite sherry focused, so it would be good to try and branch out (though not to smokey: I liked neither the JW double black nor Talisker I once tried).

      You're one of the lucky ones - my glengoyne was "ready for pickup" I went to get it and it was "sold out."

      In terms of good value in this deal, I would recommend the Glenfarclas 12 YO in the 1L bottle. It's only $5 more than the 700ml bottle so great value. I last had Glenfarclas 12 a few years ago and got a ripper deal of 700ml for $69. 1L at $99 is basically the same. Although not a heavy sherry cask example, it does have some of those similar flavours but much lighter and very drinkable. No noticeable smoke to me (if that's what you disliked in the peated Talisker)

      I used to be a sherry only fanboy but have gone back to bourbon casks to enjoy the character of the actual distilled spirit.

      Glenkinchie 12. Clynelish 14 ($92 boozebud right now, great price). Bunnahabhain 12.

      Then you can step into smoke Islay.
