Lowest I've seen so far, might be a good idea to place an order first because amazon won't charge you until it's shipped. If a better deal shows up before the launch date, you can simply cancel this order.

  • I believe Amazon will match any better deal on their preorders anyway

  • After FFXV, I'm not going to pre-order anything

    • Wasn't that game supposed to be alright?

      • +3

It got better after release and a lot of DLC was cut, which was content originally cut from the game. Like Noctis' and Lunafreyas stories.

I didn't mind it myself as a fan of the FF series, but it could have been better

        • +2

Yep, the Royal edition is worth the price but the original wasn’t

        • Ah I see, good to know

    • That's fair. XV was bland and terribly paced, in part due to the absolute development mess. Constant direction, engine and leadership changes. They really didn't seem clear on what they wanted it to be by the time it released. They used paid DLC to plug all the story holes, but it made the base game feel like it was missing a lot.

XVI by comparison has had one (very well respected) team on it the whole time. If their work on the recent FFXIV expansions is anything to go by, it will be great.

But there's still no reason to pre-order.

With all the RPGs down to $29 from EB. I didn't pre order this. It's the first main FF game.i have not preordered… Sign of me getting old.. or trying to be frugal… Not sure

    • +1

I've picked up heaps of Square-Enix games in the recent EB sale. It's been great. And yeah I'll probably wait until either the price drops for this, or the 'royal' edition.

Which RPGs are on sale? Just had a quick look on the website but couldn’t see anything

      • +1

Valkyrie Elysium. Tactics ogre. Diofiels chronicles.
At $39 there's star Ocean and $49 you have from JB octopath traveller 2

      • +2

I've just bought Diofeld Chronicle, Harvestella, Soul Hackers 2, Star Ocean and Valkyrie Elysium all for $29-39 in the past couple of weeks.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Tactics Ogre. I forgot that one!

There should be a filter for game pre-orders

  • Pure rpg of old days is kinda dead I guess. I miss the old rpg vibes but then I am bored with them when I actually play them. The whole action rpg thing doesnt interest me a lot either. I think we already have plenty of those in the 3rd person action adventure games.

FF9 was the perfect balance of oldschool charm, good story, good skill system and good battle system. And the beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds.

If you can play it on pc, the steam version has an amazing graphics mod: https://sites.google.com/view/moguri-mod/home

Also awesome being able to play with all the mod-cons like fast forward, and other cheats to take the tedium out of classic rpg grinding.

    • Octopath Traveller 2 is getting 10's and Overwhelmingly Positive scores on steam.
It's my personal GOTY as a fellow 'old man yells at cloud' guy who isn't interested in stuff like FF16 and the general shift to action based.

Look up a game called Sea of Stars. Looks like an old-school SNES RPG and I can’t wait to check it out.

And Chained Echoes had that same old school feeling.

Just pre-order Diablo 4…i don't think i have the time to play this as well

I actually just saw the Playstation State of Play presentation a couple of minutes ago. It kinda sold me on it, so I've preordered it. Cheers OP. Will just claim price protection later down the line when the price drops come.
