Those who are looking at getting the Pixel 6a might want to hold off until next month. The latest rumour is that the 7a will be launch next month (11th May) at a slightly higher price but Google has decided to continue selling the 6a at a lower price.

Waiting means you can decide if it's worth paying more for the 7a (faster, better screen, wireless charging) or get the 6a at a further discount.

    • +1

I'm waiting to see what the 7a is like, hoping to swap it for my way too heavy Pixel 6

      • +1

        go to the gym maybe?

        • +87

Nah I doubt any gyms will sell the 7a

    • +1

its gonna drop max 60 dollars. If at all.

      • This is ozbargain. People go mad over a $3 Amazon cashback "challenge"

        $60 is decent as.

        • i know right? It's like 75 soft serve cones !
(enough to break the ice cream machine at mcdonalds)

Rumour is the 7a is $US499, considering the 7 is $US599 it seems likely the 6a will slot in at $US399 (a $50 discount from where it is now) for RRP. Which means at launch the 7a will probably be $AU800 here, more expensive than the 7 regularly goes on sale for (although it makes sense, the 7a has basically everything 7 has with a little bit smaller screen), only they'll throw in pixel buds or whatever as a sweetener. I doubt we'll see a substantial drop from $499 as a result (maybe $450?)

Going by the 6a price drops over the past year, we can probably expect the 7a to be $AU550-600 in 5 months when the Pixel 8 comes out and they'll probably clear stock on the 6a then.

Was hoping to trade in my S22U 128gb with JB HiFi after price matching with Telstra for the S23+ but they lowered the trade in value to $600 instead of $750. Oh well.

    • Which iPhone is this?

        • With a whopping 4.7" screen …

          • -2

@Tiggrrrrr: It's not about the size it's how you use it

            Max cope mode on

            • +4

@abctoz: Thats what I tell my missus, but she says that would be fine if I knew how to use it.

4.7" is a little too small for my old eyes, and I don't want to have to carry my reading glasses with me. I've been using a 6" screen while waiting for my phone screen to be repaired, and even that's a stretch. Lol.

      Yeah but iOS is garbage

      • Agree I'm a man of price performance first and foremost

    • +2

I dont even get this comment, all phones are fast nowadays for most tasks. Im typing this on an samsung A series phone, which funnily enough has a 120hz display that my iPhone 12 pro max doesn't have. Apple always do that though, they cut basic features out to try and give a reason to update to new models. Some of their cheaper older phones will miss out on software features like nightmode on the camera even though the phones are fully capable hardware wise to perform it. The 6a is probably the best all round phone for its price.

      • -5

I been an android fan forever but losing price performance to android cuts deep

        • +7

Theres your problem, stop being a fanboy.

    • Whay are you on about? The processor in the Pixel 6a is almost 3x faster than the iPhone 8 in benchmarks.

EDIT: Oh, you're talking about the SE 2020. The A15 processor in that still isn't as good as the Pixel 6a - would be in the 30-40% range.

Apple CPUs are hard to beat apparently

        • Who cares about cpu performance when there OS won’t allow for features to take advantage of it? I’ve been hoping we get split screen multi tasking on iOS for so long. Probably been on Android for a decade. I’m happy they’ll finally allow sideloading of apps in iOS 17.

          • @Ronnnie: I just switched and so far very good experience.haven’t found anything that I couldn’t do yet

I actually just got sick of waiting for shit to load on android, and just to get close to performance of SE2020 I’d need a pixel 6a, that’s double the money, that’s crazy if you ask me

The only flaw so far is the battery life, hoping it improves as I just migrated, lost like 20% last night only used an hour lol

  • Nice one BG. Do you know if JB price matches Telstra? Or it depends on the staff there? If the can price match indeed stacks nicely with the trade in coupon.

    • since it is not a Telstra Day special, I believe they should be able to price match but you never know I guess

      • i tried online chat just to see, got denied both times.

        • +1

Looks like JB not price matching Telstra already part of their internal policy

  • +1

Or 5 dollar a month for 24 months if already with Optus for the pixel 6a. Though i would wait for the 7a as that would be the better phone.

    • How do we do this ?

      • Google optus flybuy. Click on the link. Select a mpbile phone plan then select pixel 6a for 24 months. You pay additional 7.50 for the phone itself on the 24 months option.

My mistake the 5 dollar is on a 36 months repayment.

    • Iv got a number of large Optus mobile data plans, do you know if you get get this deal with those, or does it have to be a mobile plan?

      • If they are on the choice plan then it can data pool.

  • The 6A appears to be in stock at Officeworks. Anyone tried a price beat ?

    • +1

      yes they wouldnt do it

      • a—-holes

        • scratch that, tried a different officeworks (the one in Dandenong) and they did it. guess it pays to try few different stores if your keen

          • @Stuntdriver: None of the stores near me are showing stock anymore, so guess it's a moot point

  • +1

Probably a stupid question, but is it safe to assume that phones bought as 'outright' are factory unlocked and not tied to any vendor (e.g. Telstra)?

    • +1

      Yes

      • Thanks. I am slightly confused by Telstra's very ambiguous wording:

If you already have a service with us, you can buy outright without adding a plan.

Assume that means you can buy outright if you have a service with anyone?

        • +1

          Yes, anyone being Telstra

          • @BargainMe: So it's locked? I want to buy the S23+ and use with my existing Amaysim plan.

            • +1

@Cineaste: It's not locked, you just need to be a customer of theirs in order to buy it. Once you've bought the phone you can use it with whoever you want

  • S21FE or the 6A? Any recommendations?

    • I have the S21FE.

Two let downs for me are, while the camera does take great pics in general, it's very limited in its advanced settings and also, it's only a single sim phone which I didn't realise when I purchased. Bit of a pain when travelling os.

Many people complain about battery life but mine seems pretty ok.

      • my colleague went with the S21FE after debating over the 6A because he's always been a Samsung guy - but not absolutely regrets as the S21 FE battery doesn't even get him through the day. Samsung is no help either.

  • Managed to pick a 6a up for $0 thx to Amazon

    • Pricing error?

      • +2

No, ordered from uk with bonus buds but buds never came so they offered 1 month free prime which I rejected so then they went straight to full refund. Could not believe it!

        • +4

Why didn't you order two Captain Hindsight??

        • How did you get to support? I bought 4 pixels and none came with buds as promised. Opened 3 tickets they keep sending me generic response about sending phones back for refunds sigh

  • Is Pixel 6a have in display fingerprint sensor? Is 5a 5g discounted anywhere?

    • Yes and it never was released in Australia

  • I got Officeworks to price beat a similar Telstra deal about six months ago, got my wife a 6a for about $550, just showed them the Telstra website in-store, this was at South Melbourne.

Great phone for the price, so is my Pixel 6 which is over a year old

  • Pixel 6a seems a popular phone on here - but how good is it?
The regular price seems to be $599 (so this is $100 off - doesn't seem that good a deal for OzBargain. So what's the attraction?

I'm asking as I was considering the Motorola Edge 20 Pro earlier in the month when $499 at JBHifi - which was supposed to be $400 off.
So is this a better phone than that?
Trying to figure out what I should be keeping my eye out for.

  • Officeworks was happy to not only pricematch the telstra offer of 1299 but also price beat it by 5% (in their policy)

    • i tried price matching they said they wont do it on telstra as you need an account with them to buy the phone

      • That's what JB Hifi said to me, but when I called officeworks they went with it. I think technically that's the case but sometimes you get lucky and they won't be aware and go with the price beat.

        • +1

yes after you said you got it i tried a different office works and they went for it. thanks wifes birthday present sorted

  • How to get a cheap telstra account … hmmm

You need to have a service with us to buy a device outright. If you don't have a service, you can only purchase a device outright with a plan.
