SE 2020 for $249 after that coupon seems like the true headline deal here.

    • +3

Yeah that’s a much better deal

    • also SE 2020 64GB/128GB for $259/$299 shipped at reebelo (seemed to be a good reputable site) and more options to choose

    • +1

SE 2020 with the A13 should last a reasonable time as a cheap backup running the latest iOS version.
Looking at getting one to replace the i7 backup stuck on iOS 15

  • +20

Pay the extra $60 for the SE 2! Looks the same, but much more modern, better spec., likely supported longer from now.

    • +9

      Has esim as well

      • +6

        No, that's SE3. SE2 has A13 processor (same as iPhone 11)

        • Yep i though they were selling the SE3 as well for some reason

    • I can’t find se2

      • +3

Nothing on the Coles website says it is SE 2.

        SE = 2016
        SE2 = 2020

        • SE2 or SE-2020 is an informal name to distinguish from the old SE. HTH. Call it SE jr if you prefer :)

        • -4

I think unless stated otherwise, this is just the 2016 SE.

          • @plasmapuff: Given the 2016 SE doesn’t even receive updates any more I highly doubt these are still being sold by major retailers.

          • +1

@plasmapuff: I just bought one and it’s the 2020 SE. It says so on the box too.

        • +1

The photo used is definitely an SE2 (or 3), not an SE (2016).

wonder whether second hand "good" condition is notably worse than Boost refurbished though…wouldn't have much faith in them having good battery health either

      • +4

For what it’s worth, i bought an “excellent” condition iPhone 11 for my mum a year ago from Boost and they sent out one that had a damaged ear piece mesh (like someone had poked a hole into with a nail). I contacted them and said that that would not be classed as “excellent” condition. They offered to refund $50 which was the price difference between their excellent and good tiers. I opted for a full refund and went with an Optus promo instead.
So based on that, if these are being sold as “good” I wouldn’t expect much by way of being in a decent condition. YMMV as my experience could have been a once off. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

      • +2

Father in law got an 8 from boost. Camera was broken. They replaced it but wasnt great.
Mum in law got an se 2020 from reebelo. Has been excellent

    • There's also as new condition for $250… are the coles ones that good of a condition?

      • +3

I just collected mine from Coles and it is in mint condition apart from a tiny bit of dust in the top speaker grill. Screen and back are flawless.

        • Nice score! - I just wish I had more than 3 Stores to choose from. Unless they got 2 in each and all sold last Wednesday?

        • What's the battery health?

    • This is one of the places I saw selling AU refurb and they had rating levels iirc. At least a lot of the eBay AU refurbs did. But “excellent” quality iPhone 8’ were selling for over $300 - and then I looked at “Excellent” iPhone SE Gen 3 they wanted $600+ but they had higher RAM either 128/256 - I think Gen 3 has the later. 64 and 256?
      Thanks.

      • Think you mean storage not ram?
Plus i am looking for a cheap one to just use the vpn stuff

64GB is not enough space need about 128GB this days

    • +6

Depends on usage pattern, there would be plenty of people for whom 64GB will easily suffice.
Got a 64GB one myself from a similar deal over half a year ago, and as I am not using my phone as a mobile office replacement (although I do have a number of collaboration tools installed for work), nor do I have a large volume of photos (19GB) or music (none), I still have over 20GB free space.
If need be I'll offload some old photos or delete some apps…
Apple unfortunately charges a hefty premium for more storage, not worth it for me, so yeah, I'm happy with deals like this.

  • +2

Annoying how they only do 64gb versions…

  • +1

Thanks guys - gone for the SE 2020 for my daughter

  • If anyone has bought these refurb models from Coles, how’s the battery health percentage on these like?

    • +3

Bought the XR from a similar (but slightly cheaper) deal over half a year ago, battery health was 89%, and right now it's still at 89%.
But hey, I could've been lucky, I don't know what their threshold is for that, and in the end it's a bit of a lottery.
Had a look at the Boost website just before but couldn't find a statement on that unfortunately…

    • +2

Just bought 2x XRs ($329/each) from Coles and the battery health was 83% and 85%.

    • +2

94% on the SE I bought from them today.

      • That's awesome!

    • +1

      Thanks for sharing!

  • +5

Worth considering that the 8 probably won’t receive iOS 17 later this year, came out in 2017! Get the SE.

  • Well. Ordered and cancelled :/

  • +1

Why does Coles sell used Apple products? Who buys that stuff

    • +2

Because the cheapest iPhone Apple sells brand new is $719.
People who don't want to spend $719 on an iPhone SE.

    • -3

I wonder if it's bought by aussie bogan mums.

      • -1

        It’s bought by drug dealers

    • +3

Parents whose kids keep dropping their phones over and over

    • that percentage of OZB-ers who like Apple phones, but not their usual price-tag, and don't need the newest one :-)

  • Does these still have Apple warranty?

    • -1

It says on the Coles product page that it comes with 12 month warranty. So i would say that it must be an official Apple refurb with a 12 month warranty from Apple.

      • +2

Nope. Boost Refurbished supplied & supported by Alegre

        • Well i see. Thanks for that so it's not Apple warranty at all but it's through a company called Alegre.

Yeah i found their product warranty info and returns submission page.

          https://alegre.net.au/coleswarranty/

  • Thinking for my mum-in-law. Can you run the SE without ANY passcode at all? She has nothing valuable on her phone.
There are SO few small phones these days.

    • You can, but Apple Pay might not work without one. If it makes it any easier for her, Touch ID is still a feature on the SE.

      • +1

She definitely won’t be using Apple Pay. Phone, sms and that’s about it. Just can’t find a good small phone for her.

        • looking for the same for my parents to upgrade their 3G iPhones. just need a basic iPhone, since they know how tp use it to make calls, text and Mum takes the odd photo.

  • Ordered, but no option to choose colour. Maybe I can swap it over on the day?

  • I wanted to find a great deal for my daughter's first phone. I placed an online order using the click-and-collect option, but the order was cancelled due to the item being out of stock. I contacted the support team to confirm if it was available in any store around. Fortunately, there was SE Red at the Coles store in excellent condition, with no scratches and a 91% battery life. I was able to use my entire Flybuys dollars balance to cover the cost of the purchase. Very good deal.

    • What version iOS came with it?

      • Just upgrade to latest.

  • Aren't these in EoL software wise?

    • They're discontinued but still getting OS updates.

    • iPhone 8 likely will be, SE will have a few years left.

  • +1

Don't get your hopes up just because the order is confirmed. Last time I tried to get one, the order was confirmed, payment processed and when it was time to pick up, the order was cancelled due to no stock.

    • I’ve just had this exact thing happen - jumped in the car to go and collect, then saw it had been cancelled with no apparent explanation. Really poor service

      • I've had that the last two times I've placed orders with Coles online. This time it's still on being processed so waiting to see if it also gets cancelled due to no stock.

        • So I just called customer support - they told me there was a 'technical issue' with my order which has been referred to their IT team for feedback, and it's not apparently a stock issue

  • +1

Just picked up my SE (Mother-in-laws). Looks perfect. Nice and cold from their lockers. Got a white. Will power on when at room temp. :-). Definitely 2020 model.

    • Mine was completely empty. Didn't turn on before a charge.

But looked like new. No dust/ lint in the charging port. Screen looked new.
Only camera ring had some scratches.

      • On closer look, screen definitely had some deep scratches in it - so not new.
        Battery at 89% 🤷‍♂️

        • Never was a new one.

    • 87% battery life left. Not too bad.

  • +1

picked XR model, lots of scratches. battery at 97% (might replace a new one)

  • Looking at the SE for parents what % Battery life is acceptable?

    • at least 80%+

    • As mentioned mine was 87. Happy enough for an almost 3 year old phone.

  • Cannot find a Coles in Bendigo and we have three, that had one in stock - there were a bunch of refurbs on eBay a few weeks ago. All claimed to be genuine stock. Of course they could be lying but it’s not hard to check. At least with the Boost iPhone 8 is definitely AU stock with new battery but a friend of a friend on one said there were scratches on his so I’m not sure how good condition they are supposed to be in. Still a good deal. Especially if you want a smaller format phone but iPhone 8 is a bit slow I’m using one now. Compared to 12/13/14 if feels slow but it’s usable.

    • Certainly no claim of new batteries with this.

  • +2

i received mine SE2020, a bit dirty at the bottom and 80% health.. red colour. returning it.

  • +2

    I just received my se2020.
White colour and looks fine without any apparent scratches.
    Battery level 89%.
    I think I am happy about it ($249 SE2020).

  • I have a 13 pro max and pleasantly surprised by how good the 2020 SE runs and feals.

  • +3

Picked up an SE, scratches around the camera ring, side switch, battery at 76%, returning.

    • +1

So it must be hit and miss of the quality you get. Some phones are way more used than others. This is why i never buy a used phone any more. I've been burnt before with used phones sort of like how you just got burnt with it.

  • +1

Coles are useless - I've now had two separate attempts (different stores) at ordering online for click and collect; on both occasions they send a cancellation email right at the start of the collection window with no explanation why.

    • Ditto one Coles Online being useless. They did the same to me on different iPhone sales. Both times at the start of the collection window. Both times the reason was no stock.

  • Battery health of mine is 77%. Very disappointed. Unless they do something about it I am returning it. Looks like there is no guarantee now re battery health. I know there used to be.

  • I managed to luck out with an SE2020 for my parents that had 100% battery life and basically looked new.

    • That’s great. I swopped it in Coles and the battery life was 87% so ok with that. The guarantee now seems only to be for 80% now, according to an email I received from the company who guarantees them (Alegre).

  • Do either Coles or Reebelo phones include the original iPhone box that'll help with the resale of them?

    • +1

      Coles. No.

  • Recently bought one but the iPhone wasn't refurbished at all.

Screen was scratched really heavily and was able to catch my finger nail on at least 2 of them. Device wouldn't power on so charged it overnight. Battery health is shown at 82% if it can even power on.

Was really happy to support something like this to give devices a second shot on the provision that you actually get one which has been cleaned, checked and refurbished. Very disappointing, they're also going to force me to wait 30 days for a refund while they check the device out.

    • Apart from Apple direct, refurbished doesn't mean much at all. That's the way it is these days.

    • Coles gave me a refund within 30 days so try there first.

      • Hi, I went back to the store but they explained as I bought it through click and collect via Coles Online they can't process a refund.

What was the process for you to get a refund?

        • I also bought through click and collect with no problems

          • @povertytrap: Did you have to do the return through Coles Online or in the store?

  • In my case I told them about the low battery, they didn’t even ask for evidence although I had it. I could have got a refund if I wanted but I am pleased that I tried my luck on another one. Very happy with the outcome

  • Bought SE today. Looks really good condition. No scratches nothing, battery at 86%

  • Bought an SE (2020) today, reasonable condition but battery at 84% - reckon it's worth asking for an exchange or refund?
