Cheapest Way from SYD to Jakarta?

Managed to get some error CGK-JFK business return tickets for $500… now the problem is that I need to get to CGK first.

Typically what are some of the cheapest flights to Indonesia?

Grab a boogie board and contact your local dealer.

Me: I took the missus to Indonesia

    Friend: Jakarta?

Me: No, we went by plane.

  • Asylum seeker boat.. empty on the return journey

Can try for a cheap flight to Bali, then take a high risk fight from Bali to Jakarta (I was particularly impressed with how small the seats were on a Lion air flight).

Otherwise, hopefully you can get a great price with Qantas or Garuda, I think they are the only 2 who still fly direct SYD to CGK.

Have the ANA flights been confirmed?
    Maybe get that first.

  • Imagine you go cheap and fly in jetstar/Scoot then flight get delayed or cancelled 😬

  • Scoot to Singapore then Indonesia

  • Fly to Bali then get a domestic flight within Indonesia.

  • Generally via Singapore these days on one of the lowest class flights available - scoot for 8 hours. Truly awful. And it’s going to cost a lot more than $500 return to Jakarta these days.

  • Scoot to Singapore, then Jetstar Indonesia to Jakarta. Or, Qantas Rewards seat, if you have the points (surprisingly many availability).

What time does your JFK flight leave? Your choice of flight should also be dictated by timing.

Lastly, if you're taking AirAsia, be aware they fly into T2 CGK. Most international flights leave from T3 so you need to factor the additional time.

Whilst these error fares are great in theory - if its honoured you now have the cost of getting to/from Jakarta as you are realising - probably a hotel stay there on each end to ensure safe connections. Oh a visa as well….prob spending another $1000 already. Then of course your costs in America if you actually don't really want to be in America and are just flying there for the sake of a cheap ticket.

Or maybe i'm just jealous I have a small child and couldn't book them as well…..

  • Looks like they’re gonna cancel your tickets.

    Kudos for trying though!
