Kids have it easy with LAN parties these days

I used to have to lug 2 x massive full size tower PCs with 1 x 24" CRT monitor and 1 x 19" monitor

    • +1

I remember upgrading to my first LCD monitor and no longer having to lug the CRT around. I could get everything inside in a single trip from the car. Life Changing

      • +2

        That was life changing.

But at the time the refresh rate was still not as good as a CRT.

I miss going to Respawn LAN in Bundoora. I was so excited when they organised another one in Richmond but of course COVID had to stuff everything up as per usual.

why does sydney not have an event like this :(

    • +7

Because not the biggest city in Australia anymore

      • Wait what?

            @starbearer: Yeppers. And re:

'Melbourne's rapid growth is largely thanks to international migration, Australian National University demographer Liz Allen told the BBC.'

I would translate that into standard pub talk as:

'As everyone knew it ultimately would since the dawn of time, Melbourne's population has now outstripped Sydney's, essentially because—comparatively speaking—Sydney sucks crap.'

            ;P

  • Either I'm blind (wouldn't surprise me) but I couldn't find where to enter the discount code.

  • its in the unlock tickets screen when you select dates

  • Are there any events in Aus where teams like Faze, Navi, Cloud9, etc come to play?

    • There was a tournament back in 2015 where C9 played. I think they played against Renegades? Not sure.. but no, not many as far as I know.

I think this is the first dreamhack in Aus? But I haven’t paid attention to competitive CS GO in years.

      • IEM back in the day had all the top CS teams.
This is the second DreamHack in Aus, it has ESL Challenger which is a tier below but still has some great teams.

    • They really would only ever come here for "exhibition" matches because they would solely be competing in the North America bracket..
Id say its just a money factor, Whilst CS is EXTREMELY popular these guys prob wouldn't just come here for a free economy flight and a slab of VB.

1 Day Pass $27.50 would instantly jump to $50++

    Where's Dotes?

  • +1

    No StarCraft 2?

    • Unfortunately we are in the minority, SC got relegated a long time ago at a lot of E-Sports events.

It's a shame, it's about the only one I personally enjoy watching.
