    • This guy's the real OP

  • +6

I hope I will never be friends with someone who wears a Maserati or Lamborghini or Ferrari branded watch.

    • +1

I mean, I'd 1000% prefer that to being friends with someone who spends 10k on a Rolex.

      • Hello

        • -5

Yeah, could have put a poor kid through uni. Instead bought something for his wrist. That's good peoples.

      • +7

I'm all for spending your money however you want. If you made your first million and decide to buy your first Rolex, that's respectable.

But if you have a couple hundred bucks and free will, and you go out and buy a Maserati watch… it'd be a big shame because there are so many great automatic watches in that price range.

        • it'd be a big shame because there are so many great automatic watches in that price range.

          Nothing wrong with quartz

          • +2

@cwongtech: True as well. Many respectable quartz watches can be had for even cheaper than the 3-500 dollar range.

          • @cwongtech: Nothing wrong with solar either , unless that's part of your statement.

            • +1

@Murkymerv: It would be, Solar is still quartz, it just has a rechargeable battery

          • +1

@cwongtech: Have to agree, I love the accuracy of quartz.
My seiko turtle is pretty bad in terms of mins lost per week, one of the main reasons I don't wear it anymore.
IIRC it loses almost 5mims per week.
Maybe I got a bad sample but it's pretty annoying.

            • @DeToxin: No this is a common problem with lower end Seiko Autos, hence why i made this comment

              • +1

                @maverickjohn:

From a calibre perspective Seiko 4r series are not great at all and personally wouldn't own one anymore after dumping my presage which was utterly useless. Would gain over 10 minutes in a month.

I don't think that's a valid generalisation, each good movement (I have a Seiko 5 with a 7s26 movement and also an invicta with a NH35) can be tuned to be dead accurate if you have a loupe/magnifying glasses and a timegrapher (weishi 1000 was $200 from aliexpress)

P.s. You will get different readings from a timegrapher depending on which orientation/rotation the watch is though
No need to bring the watch to a watchmaker.

My Invicta is dead accurate (after fiddling with the balance spring lever), no timedrift at all, and the NH35 is the same movement as the Seiko 4r36.
The build quality on the seiko 5 (even though it has an older movement) is definitely higher than the Invicta (aside from the rubbish Seiko watch band)

                I'm not an automatic snob.
Quartz or Smartwatches bring far more utility (no maintenance for quartz, extension of your phone for a smartwatch) are far more practical and useful.

An automatic watch these days are just a piece of modern jewellery piece that just happens to tell the time.. sometimes accurately (unless you played with the adjustment lever to get the beat rate and seconds rate to be exactly 86400s per day)

                • @cwongtech: The Seiko movement in the 4r series is similar to the cheaper ones you see in steel dive etc similar to you nh35.
But as the scope of the manufacturer state +45/-35 you can't even claim a warranty issue.
+45 seconds a day means that they are ok to have anywhere over 30minutes gained as an ok parameter in a month.
                  Simply unacceptable.
Hence why I have always maintained my stance that lower end autos are not worth their money.
If you are looking at watches based on their movement accuracy you need to go higher end.
On the fashion statement. I completely agree with you and mentioned something similar in the post above. That's the only reason to buy a low end auto. It's because you like how it appears

                  • @maverickjohn:

                    Just buy a Weishi 1000
                    And
                    Loupe glasses
Case back opener and a couple of youtube videos and just adjust the effective length of the balance spring yourself

Hence why I have always maintained my stance that lower end autos are not worth their money.

Well, if it's a piece of jewellery, then you don't really need to tell the time then hey, it's just a bracelet with a thing that rotates out of sync with actual time :)

                    • @cwongtech: If fashion is what people want to use it for then that's ok.
I actually appreciate the art of horology …
I might actually buy what you suggest only so I can play around on cheaper watches but if I buy a watch I will buy something that I expect it to work as intended.
It's not just fashion for me. A watch has 2 important values. One is obviously appearance. 2 is craftsmanship.
They both have to be ok for me to buy a watch. The last watch I bought was a ball engineer 3 which is Cosc certified. It's accurate and looks great so I made a purchase.

            • @DeToxin: You can get a timegrapher ($200) from AliExpress (weishi 1000) and a pair of magnifying glasses to try fix it up

As long as its not a mechanical fault somewhere, you should be able to fix it up by playing with the beat rate level/balance wheel spring (just be careful not to knock the balance wheel)

        • Watchoo buyin at this price?

      • I’d rather a Speedmaster for that money.

      • +1

Wow this is just a stupid comment. Good to know you can be so shallow to obstruct knowing a person because he/she bought a nice luxury watch

        • +2

Isn't the luxury watch also shallow?

          • -1

@Nalar: Not at all, as i mentioned in another post, what luxury is for each person varies, the capacity for each person is also different. in the horological space, Rolex has been so important, and furthermore been driving the watch industry forward with improvements in their calibres and refinement of their processes.
I know some people simply dismiss the brand thinking people are purchasing a name, however there is much more to the Rolex history than simply a name.
I don't own one and will hopefully aim to have one before i die sometime, simply because i love watches and love the art behind making a watch. the complications and how they include them in a watch is simply incredible.. Rolex is not even my dream watch, but they are one of the most important players in the horological industry.
My dream watch is Vacheron Constantin Les Cabinotiers, which i will never own but brought my love to the watch world

        • I wouldn't call that , luxury .

          • @Murkymerv: It is fairly common knowledge that rolex is deemed a luxury watch, by watch standards, however, if it is not luxury to you on a personal level, thats definitely ok.

  • +6

This is like Porsche Design. Without the "Design".

  • +8

The Maserati … the super luxury brand DNA.
    Feature:
    - Mineral Crystal Glass

    • Yeah, I only buy watches with Vitamin Crystal Glass, anything else isn't worth it 🤣

  • +4

Will go great with my Tarocash suit on court day. Thanks!

  • +6

Cheaper elsewhere as mentioned above, neg.

Also you can buy a Citizen Eco-Drive (solar) chrono for less - $229.00 delivered.

Even more Eco-Drive chrono's for less here too.

    • +2

As per above cheaper.. also these branded watches intentionally don't announce the movement calibre as they are generally low grade. In the end this is a basic quartz watch.

    • I dont really care about the price but I do care about the movement not being listed. Pisses me off how $200-$500 watches can end up with the (profanity) Chinese $1 quartz movements.

  • +4

Let me know where I can find a golden Holden watch.

  • Why isn't there a Jeep watch 🤔

    • +3

Someone must be holding it back.

    • There probably is

  • +1

Cheaper elsewhere. Maybe next time OP.

  • +1

    As above… cheaper elsewhere.

  • +2

Even if it is cheaper elsewhere, it's still a way overpriced fashion watch.

  • +1

    Cheaper elsewhere, as above

  • cheaper elsewhere
