I woke up early to watch GSW v SAC G4, but Harrison Barnes thought it was 2016 and he was still playing for the Warriors and bricked everything.

I have decided to not buy anymore blue, black or green dial watches because I have too many. And I want a salmon/pink dial. I don't care that it's quartz; batteries are cheap and easy to change. I personally think this—despite the slightly larger diameter—looks closest to an OG SARB. I also have a bunch of $25 off vouchers and Cashrewards 7% which always tracks instantly. So it was about $280.

I even made an graphic thing—because I'm bored and waiting for the next game—comparing the current "SARB-like" models Seiko has on offer: https://i.imgur.com/07nn3S1.png

Not gonna discuss the bracelets because they're probably all medicore classic Seiko shit.

The SRPD99J, which Starbuy advertises as a SARB is the worst. Case shape is too curvey, recessed crown, "zen markers" which I believe are the shiny textured indices. Rounded thinner bezel which looks even worse from the side. And the most heinous design decision is the bright white leaf hands, lumed or not, idc they are bad. Curved sapphire yeah ok. 30m WR is inexcusable when the rest are 100m. The most expensive at $499 on sale.

This pink one I'm getting has dagger hands like the original, and also lume on the hand and inidices. Thick bezel. The dial is clean and has a subtle sunburst. Slightly bigger, but also significantly thinner at 8mm. Crown is a nice size, but a bit off. Also a satin-y finish on case and bracelet. Sapphire. BUT quartz, which I some may not like but I don't particularly care. Also under $300 after discounts and cashback. And different colours.

The JDM solar is like an inbetweener. Case is a bit curvey. It has the right hands but no lume. Thinner bezel. Almost same diameter, and thinner. Smaller crown. Solar, which I think is great. Clean sunburst dial. $330 is not a bad price, however, this only comes in black and white afaik. And it's also a quartz at heart, so no sweeping hand.

So, to me, this pink one is the winner, followed by the solar JDM. I would never consider the SRPD99J whatever the price because it just looks bad.

Yes, I have too much time. Yes, I hate the new "SARB Presage". Like just copy the 003 and slap your stupid Presage/Prospex shit on it and call it day, like you did with the Aplinist. Not that hard.

I'm only buying nice different colours from now on. Like this old Seiko solar I don't even know how old it is or where I got it from, or this new titanium JDM Casio ana-digi

The dial is such a unique colour with the bright orange second hand and highlights, and looks even nicer under the sun. I haven't seen anything like it.

@rosebank: Agreed, its a nice design, that quirkiness and character is missing from all their new range, they are all trying to be similar to GS but with their cheaper appearance, but its just missing the heart of some of those older ones.

@Muzeeb: Not entirely sure. I've received this email before for "Exclusive VIP Offers", and the codes are unique and tied to your account. But everyone is a VIP these days so maybe all newsletter subscribers get the email.

  • SBPX147 looks good as a 39mm dress watch with dauphine hands.
