Shown in the video sent to us the brand of biscuits is called, "Aussie biscuits"

      • +11

ANZAC is a legally protected word. Use of it in an official or corporate manner requires permission from the Minister for Veteran Affairs. If a company is self-labelling their product as "Aussie biscuits" they are aware that they can not exploit the word "ANZAC" to sell their product and are avoiding doing so. And other people should not refer to their product as ANZAC biscuits.

        • +3

Here they are and they look to be compliant. How about you ask and see?

          • @Clear: The packet of biscuits literally says ANZAC on it. So according to GordonD they are not compliant, they are dirty dawgs breaking the law.

            • +2

              @AustriaBargain: According to the rules…

The use of the word ‘Anzac’ in the commercial production and sale of Anzac biscuits is usually approved, however the biscuits must not substantially deviate from the generally accepted recipe and shape, and must be referred to as 'Anzac Biscuits' or 'Anzac Slice' (not ‘Anzac Cookies’).

I have asked DVA if this brand has been approved to make all the internet justice warriors happy about some free biscuits.

              • @Clear: Just to add on i was reading the website and they are labelled as for non profit not sure how that might tie to this though.

              • @Clear: It contains the word biscuit twice but not in the context of ANZAC. Also the word ANZAC appears in all caps but it says it bust be referred to as "Anzac" in titlecase. I hope the DVA doesn't raid them and shut them down for these violations.

                • @AustriaBargain: Then OzBargain can say #wedidit and GordonD will be over the moon.

                • @AustriaBargain:

As the matter is regarding a third party, due to restrictions under the Privacy Act 1988, DVA is unable to provide further comments regarding the outcome of the matter you have raised.

Typical government response. I wonder if a FOI request would reveal anything.

        • +1

Fascinating. I wonder if you could call the label them as “Australian and New Zealand Army Corps Biscuits” without Ministerial approval.

        • The tofu-eating wokerati strike again!

I just put "closed for ANZAX Day" on a lot of electronic signs, did I just break the law? Should I have put "closed for Aussie War Day" or something instead.

          • @AustriaBargain: It's this kind of thinking that led us to things like "Happy Holidays"

        • -1

ANZAC is a legally protected word

Its an acronym. They are not Anzac biscuits, they are ANZAC biscuits.

  • Good promotion!

  • A packet is how many biscuits/grams?

    • +2

The packet is about 24 grams and has 2 biscuits in it.

  • +1

I forgot to mention but we were told that if a customer asked for another packet we should just give it to them, not a whole bunch though.

      • Alright dumb negger you want to challenge that?

Anyone, including representatives of companies are free to post deals and comments on OzBargain. We do not charge anything to use this site.

          Negger, please.

  • i remember back in the day around years +1990-2000 this maccas use to run adverts in the papers 2 for 1 bigmac coupons

  • I spoke to Department of Veterans’ Affairs and guess what… Aussie Biscuits do infact have permission to use the word "Anzac" for their biscuits. That's for everyone who thought otherwise.

I have spoken with my supervisor who has advised I am able to confirm that Aussie Biscuits do have permission to use the word Anzac for their biscuits. Due to privacy, I am unable to confirm any other details.
