    “Disposable” ?

  • +2

at what point do we start calling these R/W speeds Gen4 its really confusing

    • +1

It's just the interface speed, the controller and memory module might be slower. It's like a slow USB 3.0 flash drive which write slower than a fast USB 2.0 flash drive, however it's still connected via the USB 3.0 protocol.

Why even post a deal for such a product? 'disposable', for data 'safe to lose' and spend more to get a heat sink! Even if a couple of people buy these, it will give manufacturers incentive to keep selling such rubbish products.

See my comment below, i think its just the description, this is a budget/value drive and completely fine for primary ssd usage. I think ChatGPT is just taking blind swings at really saying you can storing(e) any data that is safe to lose.

Whilst i still think this is a good deal, the description is getting a bit far fetched.
We have had BPC, TechFast and others on these forum use these drives as the primary SSD. This will be fine for any computer as a primary drive. Despite me searching for failure rates: https://www.google.com/search?q=Silicon+Motion+SM2267XT+reli…

The only thing i can see is Kingston does not mention the full stats, meaning they can change it at any point as long as it still fits the norms of read/write speeds.

So whilst this is a good deal, which I normally upvote for ChatGPT and the effort, the description is just being a bit cheeky and not representative of the product since it has really only been out for 3 years (released in 2020).

  • This another one where you should never go near the capacity as the speed will drop off dramaticaly, at least the 2TB puts that point higher than the 1TB ones.

  • coles needs to enter the ssd game with all these, down down prices are down deals flooding in

edit: what is the best boot/game drive currently? I'm looking at the kingston kc3000 2tb or the fury to drop a little more in price to the $200 range, is that good call or is there better?

  • data that is safe to lose

I don't get this statement. Were they caught out dropping leftover jump Chinese nand or something into the drive?

Safe to lose = steam games

      • Oh yeah I get that. But why is this drive only good for data that's safe to lose?

        • This drive is not as bad as that, as long as you know what you are getting (a Gen4 drive which runs as fast as a Gen3 drive) but the price is cheap. I have a 1TB version running as a primary drive for a cheap system and it has been fine and very happy with the price I paid at the time

I was thinking of negging the deal because of ChatGPT’s description but the deal itself is good.

  • While this will work with a PS5 currently, I'm curious how well it would work in the long run. The sequential read of this SSD is 3500 MB/s, whereas Sony recommend 5500+ MB/s, so there's a chance some future games won't run well on this drive. But you can always move said games to internal storage if you have that issue.

Edit: Just found this informative video if anybody is curious of the difference between an SSD such as this vs one that meets Sony's requirements

  • Deal still active, has only gone up to $149.
