Do McDonald's Rewards Suck Now?

It looks like they’ve raised the prices on everything about 30% for weekly deals, and they’ve now locked weekly deals into just high margin items like hash browns, coffees and “20% off $30 spend” deals.

Has anyone else noticed a massive decrease in deals?

  • Yup basically a quasi increase in price.

  • +13

    Been below average for ages

  • +5

Haven’t been in ages, the deals aren’t worth it.

  • +2

The reward goes to McDonald's for driving repeat revenue.

  • +4

Even amongst my 5 accounts the offerings have been very poor of late. HJ's has been getting my coin now.

    • +2

HJ's shake and win is currently not working.

Also it seems they got rid of their breakfast muffins.

      • @Muzeeb every time the Hungry Jacks app stops working, I reinstall it. If that doesn't work I assume something is broken their end.

        • +1

There's a notice when you open the HJ's app which says they are aware of a problem at their end.

    • +1

13 accounts here and yeah the deals have been poor in general for a quite a while. At least the $1 large fries is still a reward, but that's about all I get now.

  • +4

I look at the rewards now and they are pointless unless buying in bulk. Everything is spend over $30 or $35 and feed another person.

    Do McDonald's Rewards Suck Now?

    The straws certainly don’t.

They need to bring back the plastic ones.

    • They ain't coming back… best to buy plastic ones in bulk off eBay/AliExpress.

      • -1

        They ain't coming back…

        I've stocked up…

  • +1

General yeah they suck, but I got a medium coffee for $3 last week, then a $2 large yesterday. Not sure how targeted it is though

    • +1

      Targeted my EFTPOS Card.

  • +2

Must be the anniversary of the app. Marketing decided it was time to start milking the app users.

  • +5

I rarely go to Macca's these days. If you're going to pay premium prices, you may as well get something from somwhere that's actually nice.

    • +4

It's crazy people pay ~$15+ for that rubbish when you can get a proper feed for similar amount with real food

      • I find it’s difficult to find a burger for less than $20 in Sydney or up on the CC that doesn’t look like sloppy joes from Billy Madison. This often doesn’t include sides or a drink.

I agree maccas isn’t the best but it’s quick comfort food.

    • +4

Yeah where I live it's better to go to most independent takeaways or even cafes for a burger. Bigger and better burger and sometimes even cheaper too! I go to a place which has a very good burger for $10 at lunch, including a small juice.

  • +5

McDonalds have become too expensive compared to kfc and hj

  • +1

Just checked my app and have a $4 small cheeseburger meal. I think I’ve been getting similar deals (e.g. small cheeseburger meal with extra cheeseburger, small or medium mcchicken meal etc.) for between $6 and $9.

My other phone normally has a $1 hash brown or $4 for a small coffee and two has browns.

    So not bad I guess.

    • +1

All I keep seeing are cheese burger deals, which I'm struggling to eat now. I think the HJs one is just as bad.

  • +3

Yeah, the last three or so months have been very weak.
Only the occasional deal that I would consider decent.
Good news is that I'm eating less McDonalds

  • I've noticed the same

  • +3

They are a nice company trying to save every1's health .
No doubt the trend will continue in Fat Nov .

  • +4

Yes, good thing I only eat their sh** once a fortnight now. If there's no deal on, I just order 2 happy meals. Coz then you get 2 drinks, 2 sides and 2 mini mains for less than the cost of a quarter pounder meal.

  • -1

Yup I was just thinking this the other day.

  • +2

    It's just junk food

  • +1

Ever since that 30 days of deals, the good offers seemed to have dropped off for me

  • +1

Yep the app deals are pretty underwhelming these days, I only get the occassional $1 hash brown, $1 large fries or $2 coffee when they come around.

  • +1

    YES!!!!!!! 1000000000000 times yes!!!!!!!!

Everytime I check it, I get stupid deals like $7 small cheeseburger meal… and im like…. bro, I can buy a happy meal for $4.95 for the same thing and I get a toy!

    • +4

It's $5.45 now! I like to get it then upgrade to a large Iced choc for extra $1.60, my kid can drink water 😂😂

  • +3

    McDonald's sucks now. The end.

  • +1

Makes sense you would want a reward for eating McDonald's.
    Some sort of compensation :)

  • Do people use their rewards points? I haven't used any yet and got an email saying a bunch are expiring this week.

    • +1

      Cheeseburgers.

      • +1

Or hamburger…… I recently cashed in points for the first time and didn't have enough points for a cheeseburger. That being said, I'd rather get 2 hamburgers for the same points as one cheeseburger.
last purchase was August, current offer $1 McChicken, $1 frozen drink, $4 small cheese meal
        .

        • +1

Ah yes this is the correct answer. Hamburger.

          • @autonomate: In a moment of impulsiveness tonight, I blew 7500 points on a Filet O Fish, which I hadn't had in a long time and couldn't justify paying for compared to other McD burgers.

I used to like them, but tonight's was awful, dry and tiny.

    • +3

Redeem them for a McCafe drink in whatever size you prefer.

    • +2

Coffee. Coffee because coffee and it's the best value per point.

    • +1

Had my initial bonus of 2500 expire while overseas… too annoyed to go back and redeem the rest now

      • I only just noticed my history tonight, and had 2K points expire a few weeks ago too!

And to top it off, after buying a McFavourites pack tonight, I afterwards saw a bonus points thing I could have unlocked for that purchase. Argh.

      • Where do you check to see points will expire ?

        • I got an email warning me of them expiring soon.

  • Yep. Thanks for confirming. That’s probably why I haven’t been to maccas for months now.

  • -1

They’ve been pretty terrible for a while now but the latest lot takes the cake. Most of these are 2020 era RRP.

$8 small mcchicken meal, $6.50 Big Mac (on its own), $1 small fries, $2 cheeseburger, 15% off over $20, $14 for 2x small Big Mac/QP meals, $1 hash brown

Is the era of affordable app deals dead?

    • The coffee offers are still great. I don't bother with their food.

      • -1

$4 for 2 coffees? The single offers are a mix of $2 and $2.50, I think they're A/B testing an increase among users.

        • Over my four accounts I often see:
          Medium $2, $2.50, $3
          Large $3
          2x Medium $4

I'm not sure if it's random or if McDonalds are trying too see how much I'll actually pay. If I don't log into an account for a while I get greater offers, like Large for $2 and medium for $1.50.

They do often offer me coffee and hash browns or bacon and egg muffin which I've never taken. Doesn't stop them trying.
