Overall review and personal experience:
On sale is one of the best 4k LED TVs outside of OLED. I have the similar QN90B model which and would of chosen this for the One Connect box if it was available at the time. I chose the QN90B over the (brilliant) LG C2 due to the overall brightness and light configuration of the room the TV is placed in and over Samsung's own S95 due to possible burn in issues over the long haul. The alternate would of been the upcoming LG G3 however this was not available at the time and would of been a lot more expensive until next years round of sales.

On Dolby Vision:
I do not watch Dolby Vision nor would care for it in the future, though others would want this feature found in competitor TV models.

On viewing angles, brightness, halos/bloom and rainbow affect:
Excellent viewing angles. We have a seats almost at 90 degree offset and the TV is viewable with a relatively clear picture and one of the reasons to spend extra versus cheaper Samsung and lower budget brands/models. There are some reviewers who prefer the more subdued look of the QN85B whereas this one is almost retina burning and overcomes bright sunlight easily. Blooms are noticeable depending on content, especially washed out white scenes, however it is much better controlled than other non-OLED screens. The rainbow affect is non-existent for me and only only occurs if I shined a mobile phone light or torch directly at the TV screen. Multiple overhead room lights in front of the TV and bright sunlight has no effect.

On the Samsung controller:
I rate it 2 out of 5. It is not better than the previous Samsung controller (which is still compatible and my partner prefers to use instead). Where it excels is how quick it is. Where it fails for me is the lack of direct settings (the older controller had specific settings function buttons) and the Return and Netflix buttons are the same size, feel and relatively close together so I find myself still pressing the wrong button a month after use. Previous Samsung TV controllers are available online from various retailers to purchase.

On direct USB media playback:
Another area where the TV has gone backwards compared to previous models. Whereas a six year old Samsung can still playback USB movie media the majority of the time, the new Tizen OS cannot play some older media that seems to be encoded with multiple languages and require reencoding to a compatible format. If you have an extensive media collection may have to look at a Nvidia Shield or Plex solution.

On Samsung Store deliveries:
I have ordered several items off the Samsung store to a metro location, with the last TV on the 19th March, scheduled for deliver on the 22nd however notified it would be an extra day to the 24th. The courier looked to be a dedicated Samsung delivery service as it was filled with Samsung only whitegoods as well as TVs. Others on OzBargain have commented on poor experiences with significant delays in delivery leading to cancellations.

Base on past sales, I expect this TV to revert back to out of stock state again quickly. There are cheaper LED TVs with larger screens for the price however for those looking for a premium TV and outside of OLED this is one of the best TVs available.

A great price for this TV. I ended up getting a Q60B (which has been good) for $1210 a while back when these were $1899 at the cheapest - but this is an awesome deal for a TV of this grade.

I purchased a 75” Q60B for the living room around that price during March madness. An absolute steal!

Blooming (despite how RTINGS measure it) and PQ EOTF is garbage on this model. I was gonna get this until I realised the 55” S95B QD-OLED was selling for a similar price. In addition to this, don’t forget you’re playing Samsung lottery when purchasing from their online store. I guess that’s the risk you take for their “exclusive” discounts 🤷‍♂️

Blooming, dirty screen effect, sluggish af user interface and speaker rattle are all reasons to avoid this TV.

    • I have reas thials as well

  • Lots of comments about this tv being terrible. What are the current recommendations for non-oled tvs? Purchased an xbox series x recently and watch a lot of sports as a typical use case. Still running a Sony KDL-55HX800. Are there any upcoming models worth waiting for or is there a current model that's a clear standout?

The QN90B is actually a decent TV. Pretty much the only one recommended out of their QLED lineup.

      • The Frame is also very decent, and priced competitively, especially with loyalty discount

        • +1

Really? I thought I read it was a pretty average tv on RTINGS

          • +1

@blazinchoppa: frame is same as Q70 of the same generation. it has no local dimming, but it has never been an issue for me, it all depends on your use case. it's really good for gaming (HDMI 2.1, 140hz 4k, VRR, low input lag, fast panel), is power efficient. I have zero complaints about my 65" frame, and art mode is superb

no local dimming is way better than shitty implementations of local dimming, and to be honest local dimming is a bad idea overall. dirty screen effect all over the place, been there done that. maybe there are good models with local dimming, but I haven't encountered one yet.

            • @shabaka: Well said.
People are kidding themselves if they think blooming is an acceptable trait of a modern day TV.

            • @shabaka: Ah okay, sounds like a good option then. I have the qn85b myself and I've found it to be pretty good. No issues so far, but at the same time I'm not really an expert with this stuff lol

    • Always Sony for LED.

Panel lottery, extensive delivery delays, and some of the worst customer support in Australia. I thoroughly regret all my recent purchases from Samsung. After my tv got delayed, I've also been waiting nearly 2 months for my Q930B soundbar. The tracking recently changed to "delivered" due to their own logistical errors, and the details were switched with my tv. I've reported them to fair trading and I'm hoping they'll be fined after these endless debacles.

Samsung hasn’t been the most reliable Brand.

I remember the class action they had against them a while back for TVs with bad capacitors that caused them to fail.

    • +1

Yup Samsung are great with mobile screens but I wouldn't trust them with TVs

  • I know some other models have different panels in Australia, how would I know that this has the same panel as the tv tested on rtings?

    • Go in store and tap the panel, if you see a flash, it’s VA. You can also stand on an angle and if the colour washes out, it’s VA. However, keep in mind that VA panels are getting better with off-axis viewing. I believe we didn’t get a different panel in Australia with this model. It was the previous model that was a shit-show.

  • Samsung QD OLED burn in.

    • Yes, OLED of any kind is prone to burn-in but no one is watching TV like they are.

Samsung made a mistake the last time i got The Frame TV… still waiting for refund and that was from Feb. Beware if they make a mistake or you need to modify the order in any way… u night be in for a long wait.

When will TV tech be limited by our vision? Surely it's getting close! Maybe in 5 years we get these for peanuts if competition is fair and no profiteering.

  • Hmmm tried but they only offered 15% off… bastards

  • What are other good 65" tv for gaming and movies below $2k price?

    • I reckon you should be able to get the Sony X95K for this price once it’s on clearance.

      • +1

Still in $3k price range for now :(

    • I picked up the samsung qn85b 65" in March for $1400. It was a steal, but my buyer experience was awful.

      • Need to wait till it drop below 2k :/

  • Did anyone got 30% discount, they only offered me 15% discount.

Samsung Australia were (recently) the worst customer experience I have had in over a decade.

I have my TV now, amd its great, but it involved over 15 hours of phonecalls to resolve my order. Several missed delivery dates and lots of erroneous advice from call centre representatives. Lots of wasted time and frustration, and I will never buy from Samsung Australia again.

Notably my TV was an s85 on runout, so that might have impacted the stock allocation. But if you look at reviews (not on google or facebook, you wont find them)…you will find a lot of dissatisfied customers.

Recommend filling the basket, taking a screenshot, and seeking a price match at another retailer.

Will never recommend Samsung. 2 month since placing an order for a tv/sound bar and several hours of calls to unhelpful call representatives and still have not got my product. If it hadn't been such a big company, I'd be convinced I got scammed.

    • File a complaint with your state's fair trading office.

I emailed Samsung and received a phone call afterwards, they said they don’t have 30% codes anymore and instead just gave me a 15% off code for 2022 TVs and 25% off code for 2023 TVs… So still haven't actually bought any TV yet…

As others have posted, buying direct from Samsung is often a problem when it comes to delivery. I bought an air con back in February, which was in stock and all up, I received 5 dispatch notification emails but the air con never left their warehouse. All I ever found out was that they were waiting for their courier to pick up the air con but I'm not so sure that was correct. Multiple escalations were logged with an update being promised within 10 business days but that never happened.

To get my money back, I had to lodge a credit card dispute, after waiting 45 days. About a week prior to lodging the dispute, Samsung even contacted me to complete that standard survey to confirm if I was happy with the item and the service.

    • +2

Yes, the satisfaction survey when you haven't received your item is probably the cherry on the top of the ____sandwich that is Samsung Australia customer experiene….🤣
