Best Budget Phone under $250?

Hey OB! My Oppo A53s hit the floor a little too hard and now I'm up for a new phone, doesn't need to be an upgrade just need something to get me by. The Oppo was great and never let me down. I'm needing a phone for basic tasks, no 5G, no gaming no heavy multitasking required. Just need something not too laggy for moderate use with browser and a few basic apps running. Prefer non-terrible camera if possible, I know my budget is low. Happy with refurb or new just want the best bang for buck! Thanks for helping.

Motorola Moto G62 as per Best Budget Smartphone (Under $300) in 2023. Unfortunately you missed the recent deals where it was $249. It's $347 now which may still be the best value at the moment since the next highly rated phone is the Pixel 6a as per Best Mid-Range Smartphone ($300 ⇆ $500) in 2023 which is not currently on sale unfortunately so quite outside your budget.

    • Think the Oppo had more features 😅

      • What are the “basic apps” you run this phone doesn’t?

  • Preowned galaxy s something?

  • I have an OPPO A54, slightly over $250 but well worth it- really good phone (though 100% need a screen protector) and the cheapest I found with NFC. You may be able to price match somewhere and get a 'beat by 5-10% too.

    • Don't all oppos come with a screen protector already on? Every one I've ever gotten has.

      • Oh, you're right! Ha didn't even notice. I'm now happier that the glass wasn't what was getting dinged up (only had it a month)

Does mean I have two layers of screen protector on now…

    motorola g22 - pretty snappy 4gb ram ($179)
has NFC/Contactless payments and a decent camera (I spent 5 hrs researching for a phone under $200 that is most bang for buck)

  • You just reminded me that you don't seem to hear about Oppo mobile deals anymore. 2 years ago it was constant and convinced me to get the A91 at half price. It has been surprisingly pain-free for my basic needs (I don't game either), except the unexpected requirement for VOOC chargers and cables for fast charging.

I had a very frustrating experience with a budget Motorola in the past, but it may have been related to the very low specs.

My oppo a52 hit many hard surfaces 'accidently' too hard, repeatedly.

And when I lost half my junk on it I didn't care, ahhhh catharsis.
