4 year olds, 2GB Dram, 1200 TBW, and 5 years warranty

      • +25

this kind of info should be compulsory to include in all SSD posts. will save everyone so much time.

  • +2

also 1TB 970 Evo Plus for $96.10 with 600 TBW

    • Says it can't be shipped to my location in Australia?

      • It shows that I can place the order normally

        • Maybe it's my location? Remote SA. Have PO BOX and regular house address. Bugger.

  • Ffs just bought from pcbyte tech for $200 couple days ago. Nice find OP

At least on the bright side, you got local warranty support… Samsung don't recognized grey import…

      • +2

Yep very true forgot about that thanks for reminding me! Think I’ve got 5 years warranty here

      • not too sure but the Q&A says this has warranty in Australia

      • I’ve read the same thing - Samsung Australia won’t honour warranty on Amazon imports, but I don’t think Amazon is going anywhere so no reason you couldn’t get warranty through them.
Still is a good price for 2TB M.2 NVMe

    • $189 now

  • Any idea if Crucial P3 Plus is a good SSD? I'm thinking of using it in my new build, a 1TB one and a 2TB as secondary drive.

    • +5

P3 Plus = QLC with no DRAM, OK for a secondary drive but this 970 Evo Plus would be better as your main boot/OS drive

  • +7

I have had it with these muthafukin 2TB sticks - bring me 4TBs please

  • This or the Crucial P5 Plus 2TB ?

    • Crucial P5 Plus is a Gen 4 NVMe while this is Gen 3.
If you have a Gen 4 m.2 slot then it might be worth getting the P5 Plus

      • +1

Thanks. Just checked my motherboard only supports Gen3x4. Ordered 970 EVO plus.

Just posting the obligatory comment to say that warranty is not honored by Samsung Australia on these drives unless they are purchased directly from an Australian Re/E-tailer. I know that this sometimes is said at nauseum but since it's not mentioned in the op, I figured I would mention it again here.

    • Some people would argue Amazon AU will take care of the issue during warranty period (at least for now).

      • +1

Really? I've never had much luck getting any kinda warranty out of Amazon AU. Only the 30 days return window. Once you're out of that you're out of luck.

What do you do? Do you contact them via chat?

        • Amazon should still be beholden to Australian Consumer Guarantees though?

        • +3

My Western Digital ssd from Amazon AU via Amazon US had turned defective just a few weeks ago (purchased in 2020 with a 5 year warranty). I started a live chat with Amazon AU, gave them my order number and was immediately sent a return label and a email saying upon receipt of the defective drive (back to Las Vegas) theyll give me a full refund

WD's site stated my serial number was outside of warranty zone (out of country) but as far as I can tell, Amazon AU still follows all ACL rules,
shouldn't be too different to Samsung surely?

          • @A curious G: Hmm, interesting. Maybe I was just unlucky with the support rep I got.

      • That is mandated under the ACL right? I don't think retailers can palm you off to thr manufacturer anymore.

      • +2

If Amazon sold you the product then they're on the hook for any warranty claims.

    • +1

Even if you have bought from a dealer who sells from Samsung Australia, your warantee claim will not be easy.

      • I can't speak for Samsung as a whole (on that link you gave, a significant number are talking about big electronics and white goods etc) but I can speak to their SSD RMA process as one that I haven't had issues with. I've only had to RMA 2 SSD's that I had purchased for other people and I've had no difficulties RMA'ing them. Both were purchased from AU Retailers and I provided the proof of purchase and has 0 difficulties with getting replacements.

  • Anyone used these for a Synology NAS SSD Volume?

    • +1

I have a 1TB one in my 1821 using the unofficial hack to use it as a volume. I have all my docker images on there, plus SAB downloads go there so it stops flogging the drives on downloads.
Works well and theres not much point looking for anything faster since there's not enough lanes on the slots.

      • Nice, I luckily don't need to hack it with a DS923+ but I'll probably give it a go. I am also only running 1GbE so it might only be worth it for a few things.

        • +2

Yeah it was just a bit of SSHing into it and creating a volume there, nothing too difficult but there's always the risk of a future DSM upgrade breaking it. I did read that the newer DSM 7.2 betas may make it official which would be nice. But I definitely recommend it if you can, it was a huge improvement on mine. I've got about 20 containers running on mine including Plex, and it's improved the responsiveness greatly. I have one 8 drive volume so previously all the drives would be chattering non stop when I had all the containers and synology packages running off the HDDs, now its much snappier and quieter.

  • Making an itx system with 4070ti and ryzen 5 7600, would this be sufficient for gaming or would I get really noticeable performance improvement with say a WD Black SN850X?

    • +4

For game loading speeds, all SSD's will perform at roughly the same speeds, give or take up to 2 or so seconds difference, as long as its not a HDD you'll be sweet

  • Just received my SSD and got a 2.5" 1TB drive instead…. sent it back to Amazon earlier.
