Can I use my kid's primary school email to get access to the Samsung Education Store?

    His email ends in edu.au

    • +4

      Yes

      • Does the Samsung Account email have to be the .edu.au one or can I use a gmail and somehow link it to my .edu.au?

        • Edu

        • Samsung account email (email used for logging in) doesn't need to be an edu.au email, it is the Samsung account email you use on your phone. And yes, it can be linked to the edu.au email (the linking expires after a few months though).

      Your kid is so adult!

    • Yes. About time he/she start contributing.

You don't know their pronouns? :P

Bought this back in January from Appliances Online for $1757.
We are happy with it and find the side by side configuration much better than the previous French door version with the freezer at the bottom. I thought the water/ice would be a novelty but it is in regular use. The only down side is that I find the doors "loose" in that they swing very easily so if you want to open it only a little to put something in - if you let go of the door it will swing wide and fully open - likewise when closing as we have accidently closed it on our pets a number of times.
I would recommend this unit - especially at that price, and its a nice colour metal finish.

    • Which part is freezer? Bit confused?

    • Do you need plumbing for ice and water in these ?

      • Plumbed Ice & Water Dispenser

        • +6

          Got it
          The fridge provides the plumbing
          you provide the house

          • @UsernameChecksIn: @UsernameChecksIn this was funny and your username is funnier. LOL
Reminds me of the "Intel Inside/Id10t outside" from years ago

does adjusting the front part of the fridge higher help? This usually sounds like your floor isn't exactly level and the front is slightly lower than the back

from what I've seen fridge door on perfect level tend to slightly bias to close in the hinge system design

    • I have the French Door Samsung 583L, and I find it better because I don't dig into the freezer regularly, so I prefer having the expansive fridge to find stuff. Also don't need door space in the freezer.

I got mine factory second, and it's been great. In my 3rd place since I got it, moved it myself, and it's been fine. If I had one complaint, it would be sometimes people leave the freezer ajar, and it's easy to do, so you need to be dilligent with making sure it shuts. Aside from that don't let the seals go mouldy because they will stain.

On a side note as a bit of trivia, I remember hearing that Samsung purchased the asia-pac division of whirlpool refrigeration ages ago, but I doubt there's any legacy quality benefits still being borne from that

    How is this Educ related?

    • +11

I guess students have a big need for side by side fridges 😜

      • Especially important in student accommodation, when you cram 12 international students into a 3 br apartment

    • +1

Grey market channel for Samsung so it doesn't piss off Hardly Normal et al

How to get access to edu store?

    • +7

      Goto school

      • +4

        Packing my school bag now!

    • To access the Samsung Education Store, you must be an eligible student or employee of an Australian educational institution and have a valid email address ending in .edu.au.

  • If we currently don't have plumbing for the ice/water dispenser, but plan on getting it done in the future, does the fridge work without it? If anyone can advise, much appreciated.

    • +2

      Yep just no ice water

Designed to fit standard Australian kitchens

But you got to put the freezer outside

Last year, we price beat a similar model (without an ice dispenser) at TGG. Maybe you can try at your local store to see if the manager would like to do so. The same model is 2293 at TGG. https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/samsung-635l-side-by-side-ref… (maybe it's a different model as the model number is SRS673DMB).

    • What price did they do it for though?

I think its same fridge but TGG one is black rather than stainless steel

      • They matched the Samsung EDU price - $55 + $55 delivery fee, equivalent to free delivery.

  • +1

Looks like it was this price last year from Appliances Online - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/707797

  • Samsung's non education site states the following;

Save $400 off RRP for a limited time only. Hurry, offer ends 30.04.2023! T&Cs apply.

So I'm guessing the same end date for the discount applies for education site.

Being cleared because it's one of the worst quality fridges that Samsung makes

As a general rule, the fridges that come from Samsung's China factory - like this one - are garbage

The ones that come from their Thailand factory are much better

    • +4

There's only one 3-star review on product review for this listed model (SRS675DLS) so it's not really a fair representation. But yes, agree that in general Samsung probably not the best in the fridge department.

YMMV, but FWIW I've had this exact model for 2 years purchased for $1469. Been running smoothly, only two complaints are (1) the drip tray on the water dispenser is a magnet for hard water stains (though this is more of a water supply quality issue than the fridge itself) and (2) the crushed ice function is pretty useless, the 'crushed' ice is basically still the size of regular ice blocks if that really matters to anyone.

      • +2

All acceptable for the price imo

      • +1

I've got one and it's actually well made - no complaints - love the features and price.

  • Does the Samsung Account email have to be the .edu.au one or can I use a gmail and somehow link it to my .edu.au?

    • Samsung account can be gmail. It will ask for your edu email and you'll have to click a link in an email it sends to the edu address.

      • I used a friends .edu.au email to forward me the link and it activated fine on my normal Samsung account gmail login.

Very happy, my wife has been bugging me to buy a 3k fridge but got off easy with this deal.

  • So many fridges just over 900mm… Gap in kitchen is 890 :(

    • +1

      https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/samsung-488l-french-door-refr…

Samsung edu selling this fridge for $1330 from memory. Bought one for myself a week ago, apparently getting delivered next week. Should fit a 900mm space

    • I found Samsung's smaller fridges fit the gap but ended up with a F&P for a French door due to the available space (if they are less than 890 wide check how deep they are too!

    • Iw ould like one closer to 1000 but hardly any in the market that are wider

  • Bought thanks

  • Just bought the non-plumbed version and we missed this plumbed version…!
The only complain I have is it's ice dispenser takes forever to give you an ice cube! (Comparing to our LG back in 5-6 years)

  • Thanks I bought one. Been looking for this fridge on special. Cheers

  • +1

bought and using Samsung Fridge for 8 years, not the best fridge to be honest. They have very common issues like the freezer is not cold enough, drainage problems, etc. I was lucky enough when my Samsung fridge had an issue but I still have the good guys extra warranty to get it fixed for free

  • Samsung fridges are terrible. Will look great for a couple of years then break down. Our ice michaine broke, then the fridge stopped working 4 times after "repairs".

    • Let me guess you got the French door Samsung Fridge as well? We had constant issues with that damn fridge. The day we got rid of that POS was glorious

  • I've had the non plumbed version for a few years. First one was a lemon, had 4 repairs attempted on it as the freezer wouldn't seal, and would fill with frost.

They sent a replacement after the 4 attempts. This one has needed one repair for the same issue, but looks to be OK now.

Seems like it's a bit of a roll of the dice, if you get a good one it's a nice fridge. If you don't…

Didn't score too badly in the Choice test fwiw. Only 65% for temp stability, though. So your ice cream might melt and refreeze. I'd rather just get a proper fridge like top rated LG ones for the same price, tbh. Food waste is the opposite of a bargain.

    • +1

Which LG fridge is this price with a similar size?

      • yeah im curious aswell..

  • +1

What sort of educational benefits do i get with this fridge?

  • Looks like an awesome deal. Just bought one these types of fridges are normally about $1k more. Thanks!

  • Looks like the Samsung web site cannot order at the moment 30/4/23. The Samsung support is looking into it. Also note that CashRewards web site says, "Cashback is ineligible on purchases made through Samsung's Education Store", so it would suggests that it is unlikely one can get cash back for this refrigerator.

    • yea same, getting a Javascript error. cant get pass checkout after entering shipping details

    Appears as 1429.35 currently

  • For those who ordered please update on your delivery progress.

I selected the very start of June for delivery as I’m away overseas for a few weeks but keen to hear how others go with getting their orders fulfilled so I have some idea what to expect.

    • Selected 8th of may but they pushed it back a day to 9th of may. Will reply back when it's delivered

  • +1

Driver called and said delivery in 19 minutes for the water filter. I said ok what about the fridge?
He said oh you don't have the fridge? We don't have any in stock right now
I said ok then deliver it all in one go wtf am i gonna do with just a water filter.

    Lol

    • Same for me! Got email from ANC saying delivery was due today and assumed that was fridge & filter. Nope just filter. On phone with support now. What a laugh! Haha

      • Yep, I told them I don't want the filter and to deliver it all in one go. I figured it's far easier to cancel the order (if it comes to that) if the filter is not delivered.

        • Damnnnn wish I did the same. Unfortunately only the Mrs was home :(

  • Just received my filter, was expecting a fridge

  • Mine was supposed to be delivered on the 16th May. Still nothing and tracking number doesn't work. Terrible

  • My fridge just arrived. No additional water filter (guess it's delivered separately). Had to call them up on the phone to get a tax invoice. Overall not a great experience but hey I got the fridge so that's good.

    • Consider yourself lucky.

I've been on the chat 5 times and get the same BS response. It's 10 days past it's nominated delivery date. They tell me it's shipped with no tracking number lol. a joke.

      • Wow thats crazy. On the plus side the fridge looks and works great so far. Just hope the extra water filter is delivered soon

        • Good to hear!

  • Mine was delivered on Tuesday.

Was actually ready 2 weeks before that but we we're overseas. We saw a serial number show up in the my orders section on the Samsung site when the fridge was actually ready to ship and contacted Samsung via chat to advise dates we were away. Courier contacted us on the Monday we were back and organized delivery for the Tuesday.

Our filter arrived with the fridge and there was also one in the fridge too, so 2 filters total.

All plumed in and working really well so far. Happy at this stage.

Will have to chuck a temp tracker from work in it to see how stable the temps are.

    Regional QLD for reference.
