  • I don't need this until next year. Can I still use the medication after it's expired?

    • I have used expired flea treatment for fosters. Not recommended, though, because you don’t know how effective it is. May be fine for 100% indoor cats, but I’m no expert.

    • expiry dates on medication are mostly bureaucratic (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7040264/)

What they found from the study is 90% of more than 100 drugs, both prescription and over-the-counter, were perfectly good to use even 15 years after the expiration date.
Hence, the expiration date doesn't really indicate a point at which the medication is no longer effective or has become unsafe to use.

They do say that drugs in liquid form aren't as stable but I would suggest this would be fine for at least a few years.

This stuff is VERY toxic to cats, best to avoid if your cat is indoors all the time as it's not necessary

    • Got a source for this?

      • -1

If your cat stays indoors, where will he get fleas from? Use your brain and use at your own risk. There's dozens of bad reviews out there saying how it made their cat sick.. here's 119 bad reviews with 1 star for this product:

        https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/revolution-for-cat…

        • Wasn't an attack, I just wanted to know where you got the info from, thanks for the link.

          • @fullspend: Ok no worries. I do volunteer work for an animal rescue organisation and we tell everybody not to use these toxic products on their pets if they are kept indoors. They prey on the heartstrings of pet owners through scaremongering saying you need this stuff to keep your pets safe. The irony is that it endangers your pet's health. Go read one of the 100+ negative reviews and they have a similar theme - it's corrosive to the skin, cat's fur will disappear, skin will bleed, cat will turn into a vegetable, drooling mess with no energy, lethargic, confused, needs medical treatment after use, cat vomiting, cat won't eat or drink, this product should be removed from the market etc

            • @x x: We have been using this for our indoor cat for 12 months, fortunately with no side effects other that they don't like something cold being squirted on their neck. I'll definitely reconsider my choices now.
What opinion do you have on annual vaccinations and FIV vaccinations for cats?

              • @fullspend: We definitely recommend annual vaccinations for cats. In fact we won't accept cats in the boarding area unless they've been vaccinated

                • +2

@x x: So what flea treatment do you guys recommend for cats that do go outdoors?
