50% off Selected Groceries @ Coles via Uber Eats

371

Not sure if targeted or how long this deal runs for.

On my Uber Eats app, all Coles Meat is 50% off (excluding delivery and service fees).

On my partners Uber eats app, it's 50% off all Dairy and Bakery items.

So it looks like the items discounted are unique to each user.

How to access:
Go to Coles on Uber Eats app (make sure you are signed in), go to Deals section and you will see the 50% off items for you.

Can be stacked with Uber eats promo codes.

  • Got nothing

  • Coles by Ubereats, the driver will buy and delive your items using the price in store, so even you buy the meats half price in app, they may update the price when items delivered.

    • +3

Surely not? I wouldn't think that makes sense or what's the point listing any prices.

    • +3

I do deliveries for Doordash and Uber on my weekends when I'm bored. Taken many orders from Coles and not once has that ever happened.

    • +2

If you buy from the deli I've found they tend to substitute with far more expensive packaged items. Very annoying. Happened to me today. $1.50 item turned into $6. Wasn't asked.

    • +4

This literally just happened to me. They updated the order to negate the 50% off prices as the "price was different in store".

Charged double (over $100 more) than the "estimated price" despite diligently checking every item to ensure the full price item was the same as in store.

Thought this comment was over the top yesterday but they've completely changed their system. Makes these deals completely useless now. Surely illegal to advertise a price/promotion then afterwards charge whatever they want?

Hopefully they offer a resolution in app.

Make sure to always screenshot Uber promotions for proof.

        • +2

Its the drivers who do the shopping for uber eats orders. Not personal shoppers.

          • @rack: yeah, I'm absolutely incorrect — it appears it is the Uber driver… I'm having one put an order together for me right now, they're a real potato navigating the store (I did another order last night and it was absolutely seamless, which is why I thought it was Coles directly).

            https://www.afr.com/companies/retail/coles-uber-eats-to-offe…

"Each delivery placed with Coles through Uber Eats will be packed and delivered by an Uber driver or rider – not Coles staff. Customers will be able to communicate directly in-app with the Uber driver so any out-of-stock items can be replaced by an item of their choice."

            For above, use https://12ft.io if you're paywalled…

        • I'm pretty sure they've recently moved to the drivers doing the grocery orders, unlike in the past I've had it done by Woolworths staff when ordering on Uber.

But no, that's not the issue. I received refunds for the two items that were unavailable as requested by me, but all the "50% off" items as listed by Uber as a promotion were removed and amended to full price, despite all the prices being listed on sale as "save on select items" deals on the Uber app prior to ordering.

I received the exact right items, they basically just removed the 50% off from the Uber promo pricing, and said they were 'incorrect'. This is a new phenomenon, no stranger to ordering groceries on Uber via deals like this.

      • +1

The exact same thing happened to me too.

I had 50% off meat and seafood. I bought numerous packets of salmon and they swapped them and I was charged full price (which is more than in store).

My yoghurt was also delivered destroyed

Uber aren't replying to sort it out.

Avoid this or you could be significantly overcharged.

        • +2

This sounds like a similar but not exactly the same issue, my prices were increased without swapping the products around. So the exact right order, just removed the 50%.

I don't think I can justify using Uber for groceries anymore, been using these promos for ages now.

          • +2

@snoopydoop: I'll be doing my best to get the 50% off as advertised.

Have already raised a ticket in app, contacted Uber on Twitter and have contacted Coles.

If Uber fob me off, I'll be persuing it through Coles. They spend a lot on branding and partnering with a company that is doing this wouldn't be looked fondly upon in my view. Advertising 50% off seafood and then charging full price for seafood is not good enough

            • @arcticmonkey: I haven't been replied to either yet, I assumed because it was Sunday. Usually uber support has been good for me so I'm holding out hope.

I wonder if there's some ACCC type body which to go through too

              • @snoopydoop: Definitely try Coles as the next step if Uber doesn't help. I've had success contacting the C Suite directly in the past.

                • @arcticmonkey: Had the same issue. The promo is still being advertised on the app, yet was charged full price once the driver had completed the purchase. I've left a complaint with Uber Support. Pretty blatant false advertising

                  • +1

@astro1423: Uber came back to me with copy and pasted rubbish that didn't address the issue.

Said the discount has applied when it has not on substituted items. I'll try again but their support team often fails to comprehend anything requiring logic in my view.

Coles on Facebook asked me to call them so I will if I don't get resolution from Uber.

This is probably a nice story for Murdoch or ABC or Nine Newspapers if they continue to fail to act.

                    • +1

@arcticmonkey: Got the same response, but now they've stated that its been passed on to another team as "they're experts" in solving problems like this. Will have to wait and see what happens, otherwise I might contact Coles aso.

                      • +1

@astro1423: I just got a similar message from Sujoy. Hopefully if multiple people complain, they will fix this and make some changes

                        • @arcticmonkey: Same thing happened to me, also complained and got generic responses. Please keep updating on how you go, cheers

                          • @dk1: No update yet. Still waiting for the so called escalation to the specialist team. Useless service on Uber Eats part thus far.

                          • @dk1: Still waiting. Did you get an update?

                            • +1

@arcticmonkey: Yep last night I ended up getting a refund after about 4 complaints and lots of screenshots, but my order total was only around $30 so that might have factored into their willingness. Good luck with yours!

                      • @astro1423: I'm still waiting..any update on your side?

                        • +1

@arcticmonkey: I've been told that they're still looking into the issue, but seems ridiculous that its taking this long. I had a screen grab of my order showing the 50% off on the items, so I'm going to use that as evidence and look to start a chargeback.

        • +1

I was asked to provide a screenshot of my order as part of my complaint… I only have a screenshot of what the cart subtotal should've been. Will let youse know how it goes.

          • @iol: Anyone able to have this issue resolved? Still waiting to hear back from them on mine

          • @iol: Just wondering, did you raise an issue with your order through the app?

        • No response today, have just prompted them for an update

          • @iol: Still waiting as well. I contacted Uber on Twitter and they said they will reply shortly but still nothing

I'd suggest going through Coles as well as they have some contact details for Uber. You can tweet at them or private message them on twitter

            • @arcticmonkey: Hey all, didn't get notifications for this. Insane it's so widespread.

My experience was radio silence from Uber for 3 days, a message saying they had already sent an email (they hadn't) then radio silence for another 3 days.

It's still been radio silence, but my total just had half refunded without any message other than the auto one.

Surprised because Uber has usually been very responsive in support and suspect they may have gutted their staffing? Anyway will be very hesitant to order with this sort of promo, at least in large amounts.

Hope everyone else has a happy ending

              • @snoopydoop: Yep, I just had half my total refunded. Glad it’s been sorted but it was a nightmare process. Lost all faith in Uber now

        • @arcticmonkey I've just checked my bank account; seems like I've been refunded, but without any notification from Uber

  • I got 50% off Snacks and Sweets but no shops in my area.

  • +5

Holy shit Uber Eats is ridiculous. $7 delivery + $4 service fee. For comparison, Doordash is $3.99 + 10% service fee.

    Exact same store.

    • +2

How much would you want to be paid for transport/ delivery of someones groceries?

      • +3

Just because a company is getting more money out of the consumer doesn't mean that money is actually getting to the drivers. I'd rather tip the driver directly than pay exorbitant platform fees.

    • I wonder if uber pays their people better. What a horrible idea.

      • Haven't delivered with either so someone chime in here if I'm wrong but both here and here say Doordash pays better per trip. The caveat being Uber Eats may achieve a higher rate if you're in a busy surge period where you can do more deliveries per hour.

Key takeaway here seems to be Uber exploiting their contractors due to their high market share which yes is horrible.

    • Just a different way to skin the cat, so to speak — I'm not too phased by the fees as long as the over in total delivered price is in my favour. For this promo as an example, I'm more than ok paying theoretically $3 higher delivery fee given I've saved $85 in product

  • +2

Got 50% off meat and an additional 30% off promo code in app. Arrived. (UberOne member for what’s it’s worth).

    • Prices are same as in store for Coles

  • Yeah I got this one. Put through about $100 of meat. After service and delivery probably 35-40% off. Not gonna complain about that. Not bad at all.

    Thanks OP.

Applied to local coles, IGA and QE foodstores but went with coles cause it was cheapest by a decent margin.

    • Did the app tell you which meat is included in this promo? Or was it any kind of meat from the patricipating stores?

    • I’m keen to know if they applied any adjustments to the prices when delivered.

I know I’ve ordered lamb cutlets, it gave an estimate based on 800gr weight and when the item arrived it adjusted to the sticker price of the lamb.

How did the 50% apply with the adjustment price??

      • While you’re browsing the regular price is crossed out and half price price displayed.

        • Yea but my experience is when you actually get the delivery they further ad “adjustments” to your receipt, and those reflect the checkout price at coles. And have no reflection on the app price.

I once bought cocobella for 2.75 through the app and Uber charged me 5.50 when it scanned at coles.

          • @cloudy: I didn’t have that experience today even for swapped items.

            • @[Deactivated]: was the swapped items the same price?

              • @cloudy: Hard to know with swapped items cause they do the adjustment in a lump sum. You'd need to do the math.

Deli stuff was subbed with more expensive packaged stuff though. That was annoying. Lesson learned.

  • Got 50% off lots of different items (even home brand) + additional $40 off $80 spend with in app Uber One promo code. Delivered with only one item unavailable without substitutes.

Might be good to order a bit over just in case items get cancelled so you'll still be over the minimum spend for the promo.

  • It says selected items. How do we know which items are included? I tried adding few random meats from IGA and Coles but no discount was applied.

    • Shows up on item price

      • Thanks! Nothing seems to be included for me :(

  • Thank you :)

  • 50% sweets and snacks so like. 30 pack of cans is sub 20 bucks 30 pack of schweppes lemonade 16 bucks oof

  • Wow - I had 50% off meat and deli, and then could apply the 30% off promo further in the cart….

  • What’s the 30% off promo code?

  • I got $20 off $30 promo x 3 and quite a few items at 50% off. The discounted items changed overnight which was weird.

  • nothin i can see on the website

  • 50% so many things for me! Thabks heaps for the heads up!

  • -1

    Deals over.

  • Only comes up at a Coles.. that is too far and doesn't deliver.

Plus a bunch of rip off groceries that are 4x normal price, so this brings it down to double normal price. Plus service fee. Plus delivery.

    • Coles has the same in store prices and products (excluding specials) on Uber Eats though?
Woolies/Metro hikes up their prices and has a reduced range, but nothing like 4x the price. Not even IGA does that.

  • I ordered for delivery tomorrow, almost $300 worth of shopping.
Just wondering if they asjust it to charge me more can i return it for a refund or something

    • I received mine with an original Coles receipt at full price, so I imagine you could swap/exchange
Ask you driver to make sure they include it. You wouldn't get a refund, but a credit note as you wont have a matching payment method.
Uber drivers pay with a "prepaid visa"

      • Interesting, I thought coles packed it for them, wonder if it means the driver pays full price out of pocket

        • That was my understanding too. I hope my poor uber driver isnt packing my order of a million items

          • @rack: When you order you can talk to the driver about replacements for things that are out of stock. They discuss it with you personally.

Looks like they are packing the order. I strongly doubt they are only getting paid the delivery fee - but if they are, they're getting very stooged.

            • @krunchymoses: I really also hope they are getting paid more than the delivery fee. If not I won't be using this service again. I really thought coles packs it and has it ready for them to pickup.

              • @rack: I would like to know what they are being paid for this. While I'm doing these orders to get a bargain I'm tipping the driver cause I feel bad if they are getting under $10 for like an hour of work.

We need a driver in here to fill us in!

                • @krunchymoses: TWU seems happy with it - they did a deal to make it happen. Can't be too bad if the union is publicly happy with it - well the SDA would take anything but TWU is pretty legit.

                  https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/apr/13/uber-eats-a…

                • +2

@krunchymoses: Had a good one on one chat with my uber driver. It took him a good 2 hrs to pack , checkout and deliver my order. He said he is happier doing these runs as he makes more from it. He got paid $75 for this run. Said usually he'll make the same delivering stuff but then factor in fuel and the tear on the car, he loses out a bit. Made me feel so better and i tipped him another $25 cash.

                  • @rack: Oh wow that's super interesting. They're totally losing money on this. Why the hell are they doing it?!?!?

                    • @krunchymoses: They aren't losing any money. We are paying for it through price increases. Well, some people like us are benefitting from the convenience at the expense of those who aren't so technically savvy. The costs of grocery prices going up isn't all due to production and transport costs. Convenience through third-party services like Uber Eats are contributing to it.

                      • @rack: My driver mentioned he gets paid like $30 or something for my order, which has over 20 items.
But its the driver who picks, but they dont pay, Uber generates a prepaid visa that they access using Apple Pay / similar that matches the value of your order.

    • Curious whether you get charged double too. That's what just happened to me (via Coles)

      • I just placed an order with a bunch of 50% off items and also applied a 30% off code but it appears that one or the other hasn’t been applied… will be seeking assistance from Uber once my order gets delivered

        • 50% off should show on the items price themselves I believe, 30% off should show as a 'promotion' at the end before total. I think.

  • +1

Best Uber promo yet. Between me and my sister we’ve ordered over $1100 of meat on my UberOne account, some at 50% off and other orders at 50% off plus an additional 30% off.

    • ooiii… Let us know how it went

      • +1

        All arrived no issues

  • Has anyone had the Uber driver pick the wrong item (i.e. picking a more premium home brand product) which then results in an adjustment up on the final bill?

    • Yep. Several times in one small order. You gotta say no substitutes. Stuff that is almost certainly in stock (chicken breast) were 'not in stock' for me. Pfft.

  • This deal is awesome I had snacks and drinks at 50% off. Got a few slabs of water (24x600ml) for $3.20 each, 1.25 litre homebrand drinks 45 cents. The big Cadbury blocks 315g for $3 each. Big bags of smith chips for $1.75.

Stock piled for my family and friends I spent $84 in the app and the store receipt said $180

  • -4

Did anyone notice the receipt also includes the cost of the plastic bags that are use to pack and deliver the order. I got charged $0.30 for one order and $0.15 on another one. How dare this money sucker Uber charges us for these on top of the exorbitantly high service fees? Should be reported to ACCC.

    • To all those who are negging me, what the reason behind it? Don't you think they have no right to charge us without taking consent and don't you think the exorbitantly high service fee should cover that? They provide the bags to restaurants to deliver the food but don't want to do the same for Coles orders.

      • My service fee was $27. Delivery was $8 but free for UberOne. The driver was paid $75. What exorbitantly high price?

      • +1

Because the fees seem more than reasonable considering:
        (a) item prices are the same as in store, not marked up like other stores on UE
        (b) there’s also a 50% discount
        (c) the time spent by the shopper
        (d) it’s 30c

  • Question here is not about how many cents or dollars the plastic bag cost it, it's mainly how these companies are looting us. They can provide and cover the cost of bags for restaurants but not for Coles orders and they make not mention of it and quietly and secretly add it to the order total. Anyone wouldn't even notice it unless the open the receipt. One would just except the order total to be what they saw while placing but thats not true.

Doesn't matter and doesn't have any relation to how much time the shopper is spending and how much they are getting paid for it, it's between them and Uber. We are not employing them.

Also the 50% is just for time being and not always.

All I am saying is Uber has not right to charge us without advising

    • They clearly state you’ll be charged the actual price of the shop. The receipt is included. Of all the ways Uber rips customers, restaurants and delivery partners off, this is at the very bottom of the list and I’m honestly not bothered with it at all.

    • Probably the main point of difference is that with every other order, the store is packing your items/order, with this, for the first time, the Uber worker is picking and packing in addition to delivering. The win is parody pricing for items (plus transparent fees not worked into the item price). Take it or leave it.

  • Somehow my driver stuffed up part of my order. Replaced an item that I chose not to replace and didn't replace the one I said to. But then my receipt came through tonight…..$110 minus adjustment to the $74 the actual shop cost. Plus service fee. No delivery fee as I have UberOne, then I got another $53 "promotion" discount. Then the $20 off. So my total charge is $6.44……. not gonna argue it but I have no idea what the other "promotion" was other than the 50% discount but that figure wasn't 50% off the original total or the actual shop! I guess it's an Uber error that I will happily accept…..wish I'd ordered more now….

  • Is there a pick up option or is it delivery only?

  • It was there for me the other day but think it has since expired. Can anyone else confirm?

    • Yeah the half price for some items gone for me too
