2.9 kgs is heavy. Some airlines, eg. Jetstar have 7 kg limit, so you might be able to fill it with cotton clothes and a plastic toothbrush only.

  Thats why i always have a backpack for carry on to maximise what i can bring on board.
  
  I mean seriously. Dont tell me many of you cant walk around with 7KG backpack? Yes i know theres situations where a wheeled carry on like this needed. Like if you have kids with you. But for many of the rest of the adults. 7KG is not much.

    I do the same but with a gym bag.
    Weighs basically nothing and easily squished into the overhead storage.

    Try Rimowa. It's just like a tank. I had one that used to carry my camera gears, but then I sold it as I dont carry around my gears anymore.
