Personally, although I enjoyed the prequels in the theatre at the time and it was an amazing thing to see a long awaited return to Star Wars - specifically in retrospect, they were very childish (ep 1 and 2) to me.

But when I watched the sequels in the movie theatre, I enjoyed them hugely - EVEN THOUGH, of course I saw the flaws. In the end, they were enjoyable and that's a large part of what counts.

That said, Rogue One was fantastic (minus the overbright CG Star Destroyers / CG Actors). That ending though.. AMAZINGLY WOW! It felt like the real Star Wars (for me).

      • I enjoyed episode 7. I think the follow up films damages it. But it was exciting leading up and even afterwards. It left a lot of questions, though few were followed up.
Episode 8 was entertaining when I watched in cinemas. Thinking back on it after watching, it’s pretty bad and damages a lot Star Wars lore.
But at least it was engaging. Episode 9 was the worse because it was so weak. The knife-death star plot thing broke my suspension of disbelief. That rarely happens for me. Then the end part where allies show up out of nowhere felt like a bad copy of Avenger Endgame. Then it ended with the “Rey Skywalker” thing. Yep, didn’t enjoy that one at all

Yea similar to what I think. All I'm saying though is that as a movie, I really enjoyed watching them (minus some annoying moments of course). It's afterwards, when I think about the plot as a whole that it became a big issue. Which for Star Wars, is the main problem. It is a massive franchise for fans.. and to have just an 'enjoyable movie' isn't enough.. it has to also, maintain the lore / ongoing story.. and that's what they missed heavily on - and where I think Rogue One did quite well with.

I have opinions about the originals. The prequels made me have certain opinions but as time passed I now have different opinions.

The sequel, however! I definitely have popular opinion!

    • +4

      You seem very opinionated.

      • +7

Well of course! This is popular culture franchise we are talking about here!

        • +1

I think what you're saying is funny, but if we have differing opinions on franchise then I will pretend I don't, and call you mean things!

          • +3

@TheDukeOfNukem: But the opinion in which I hold is more correct because my buddy agrees and also I've seen this opinion circulated on popular social media site!

            • +2

@Ninternet: No! The opinion in which I hold is more correct, because I saw a YouTube video talking about it and they agreed with the things that I agree with.

Unless we agree with the same things, then we are best friends and will have to make sure our periods opinions sync up on the next popular franchise film or TV show

              • @TheDukeOfNukem: Well at least we have nth entry into popular cinematic universe film to look forward to! I'm sure we share similar opinion for or against this one!

    • +1

Please tell me more on how your opinion is wrong ;)

      :P

How original are these "originals" - the ones with all the changed music and extra CGI crap?

    • +18

These are not the copies you are looking for.

      • +2

HAHA THATS LIKE THAT LINE IN MY FAVOURITE MOVIE FILM THE STAR WARS!!

    • +5

It's impossible to get the originals anymore, without going for a fan made version. Cheers!

    • +4

This will have the changes, just watch 4K77/80/83 if you want to watch without the changes.

      • Yeah you can get these in 4k if you know where to look, these are scans of the original theatrical film you are referring to, scans that have been gone through frame by frame to clean up scratches and stuff. I bet Disney have already made their own versions from the masters they bought and are waiting until they need to boost Disney Plus subscriber numbers before releasing them.

        • +3

I don’t think George Lucas will ever let a “de-specialised” version be released.

          • @sween64: He is 78 years old. It is unclear if he made any rules in the deal limiting Disney from releasing the originals. But if there were no restrictions and Lucas died then the only person in the world who would complain about the originals being released wouldn't be able to say anything about it. And even if there were rules in place after he dies the deal can be altered further.

          • +1

@sween64: Disney didn’t pay 4 billion dollars to have to listen to George.

      • Yeah, either Project 4k77 or Harmy's Despecialised editions are the best way if you want to watch the original movies.

  • +9

Wow! What an ending! Who would have thought that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father?

    • +5

      Move along, move along.

    • +10

      Well thank you, Mr Blow-The-Picture-for-Me!

    • +2

Wow! That film sure was good! I can't possibly see the series getting any worse from here after such a strong finale! I sure hope they keep the mature themes and don't add something as silly as teddy bear gangs or change Han Solo's character into that of a silly billy comedy man!

I hope one day they tell us the origin of Darth Vader because I'm sure it will be dark and cool

      • -1

Personally I hope they put some Rastafarian representation into the series, maybe in the form of an alien sidekick who only speaks in Ebonics?

  • Frankly I enjoyed them all. And Solo, etc. Totally worth buying all three trilogies.

    • +6

      How dare you

    • +2

Solo was a good time. I also really enjoyed rogue one.

  • +1

Too bad no Dolby Vision on the disc versions

  • Possibly a silly question, but one I should know. I have a current model OLED so really should try and get the most out of it. How much better will this look than the Bluray version I already have?

    • +1

If you have an OLED, you should notice some more colour and brightness given you're a reasonable distance from the screen. The best part of 4K discs for me at the moment is the almost guaranteed use of Atmos or DTS-X soundtracks. Do you have a decent sound system/soundbar?

  • The Amazon prices are back up to $35.69, bummer.

  • +5

    Harmy's or gtfo.

  • The Originals? So what Dishney dished out was The Trashlogy?

    • -1

Now that a couple of hours have passed since you made the comment, are you proud of that one?

    • Nah they think they are being clever by calling the Original Trilogy “The Originals”.

  • +1

Oh, the originals? As in, Han shoots first?
