[Prime, SUBS] AIR Added to Prime Video from May 12

2260

Just received via email.

Sonny Vaccaro and Nike pursue basketball rookie Michael Jordan, creating a partnership that revolutionizes the world of sports and contemporary culture.

Highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes and having seen it myself, I would recommend.

Enjoy!

Wait, as in included with sub? Or "home premiere"?

If included, that's great. Honestly thought this was still in cinemas

    • I believe included.

    • +2

Should be included with sub according to this

AIR will be available on Prime Video beginning on May 12.

Prime Members can watch AIR on Prime Video

  • +30

Geez, movies are going from cinema to streaming quickly these days

    • -1

I never understood the delay. If anything, the delayed home release just kills the hype.

      • +11

Because there was a concern some won’t watch it at the cinema if they can watch it at home… understand?

        • +1

Such a delay, I should've said. I've looked for some blurays in the past and they've been released 6+ months after the movie is out of theatres. Pretty stupid.

          • +4

@pharcyde: 6 months is a bit much i agree. But cant really have it a week after the cinemas its streaming already or hardly anyone would bother going to the cinemas.

            • @xoom: It appears they have changed their approach in order to maximise profits. So streaming it early to masses outweighs losing some customers at the cinema. Obviously this approach is dependent on the type of movie. For example, this would never fly with top rated movies like Top Gun.

          • @pharcyde: Don't forget movies do not go to cinemas at the same time in all countries.

    • +3

Amazon Studios bought distribution rights. Their logo appeared in the opening credits when I saw it at the cinema.

      • +2

Strange times. All the movie studios being replaced by tech corporations.

    • Yeah I just saw it a couple of weeks ago, I shouldn't have wasted my money :( movie was fine but not worth the cost of ticketing these days.

      • I limit the movies i watch at the cinemas. Usually for blockbusters like marvel.

        • +6

I'm the other way around, I'd rather support independent cinema lest every movie become a franchise

  • +6

Movie was always for Prime, just got a wider release after the suits saw it was actually pretty good.

    • +2

Or they wanted to qualify for the Oscars, especially after Apple beat them to the punch for the first streaming service to own a movie to win Best Picture.

  • +2

That's fast - I saw AIR last Thursday at Hoyts.

Thinking of canceling Prime altogether. Just announced 35% price increase on annual membership. The amount of content released on Prime TV that doesn’t require additional paid subscriptions has dwindled massively over the past 12 months. That alongside the lack of actual “deals” on Prime doesn’t seem to be worthwhile investment anymore.
I do buy from Amazon from time to time because of the convenience and I have the subscription but most deals of late seem to be price matching local offers and “sell out” pretty quickly.

    • +6

Yeah the Price increase is pretty massive considering there is nothing new occurring with it. If they don't announce anything. I will likely cancel. May have to look over my purchases to see if I would spend less or more when ordering with delivery.

    • +4

Agree. I came to the same realisation and cancelled yesterday

    • +5

      Same.

Delivery is normally free over $39, S&S has free delivery if I remember correctly (though it's once a month so potentially a large delay), the only extras I use are Prime Gaming (to add to my pile of never to be played games) and the free Twitch sub.

Mine just expired so I'll renew for a year, but afterwards I might just cancel and subscribe monthly when I really need it.

      • +2

        Another here likely to cancel.

    • +7

Thinking the same. One of the biggest selling features for me were Prime Day and the last couple years have been so mid it's not funny.

      • Agreed, I got a cheap Xbox from them when they first launched here ($180 from what I remember) since then there’s been nothing competitive

    • You just reminded me to switch to annual at the old price.

I still get value out of it, which is not to say everyone would.

      • +1

If you are already on the annual price, is there any way to pay early for next year before the price rise, or are you locked in until the subscription ends?

        • Keen to find this out. Might pay for it now rather waiting till later when the price might go up.

        • +4

I just added an extra year onto my prime subscription taking me through to April 2025, using the Telstra points option

          • +3

            @Spending2Much: Thanks for the tip.
I just redeemed 12 month Prime voucher from Telstar Plus store. However, it is failing to redeem on Amazon :(

"We’re sorry. We’re unable to complete your Prime signup at this time. If you would still like to join Prime you can sign up during checkout. "

            • +1

              @WalterBiH: I’m getting the same error. ☹️

            • +3

@WalterBiH: Actually just managed to get it work… I was on Safari earlier and clicking through the link that the Telstra page with voucher code was showing. That was failing with the error message above.

I copied the link from the Telstra page and went to Chrome. Using that I was asked to login again to my Amazon account. Then when I tried the voucher code, it worked.

Not sure if this helps anyone, but might be worth trying in a different browser. Good luck!

              • +6

@emgee: Thanks mate - that worked for me as well! The key seems to be you are logged out of your Amazon account before entering the code. So either log out or use different browser.
Extended my membership till 27/12/2024 :)

So for anyone playing at home:
                (1) Log into Telstra Plus store and go to Amazon Prime Offer
                (2) Redeem 12-months for 24,000 points - code will be displayed and e-mailed to you
                (3) Make sure you are logged out of Amazon (or use different browser)
                (4) Go to https://www.amazon.com.au/prime/promo/landing and enter the code
                (5) Log in using existing account when prompted and you will be given option to apply the code extending the current sub

                • +1

@WalterBiH: Thanks Spending2Much, emgee and WalterBiH for this.

I struggle with ways to use the Telstra points and this is probably the first truly useful thing I've done with them.

                  Greatly appreciated.

                • @WalterBiH: Thanks for the instructions.
I had to use Chrome's incongnito mode, to get it working with my existing Amazon account.

                • @WalterBiH: Thanks, that worked a treat!

                • +1

@WalterBiH: Awesome! I was already extended until June 2024, seeing this chain of comments, pushed until June 2025 - technically the value of Telstra plus points went up. 😊

                  • @emgee: Cool. So correct me if I'm wrong, but you applied 2 x Telstra Plus vouchers extending your sub to June 2025 - right?
I was wondering if this would work. Was reading T&C and couldn't see why it wouldn't, but wasn't sure if I should risk my T Points.

                    • +1

@WalterBiH: Sorry for the late response. Yes, I used two vouchers to extend until 2025. That works… 😊

                      • +1

@emgee: Thanks mate - mine is now extended till Dec 2025 :)
Best use of Telstra points ever for me. Unfortunately, I haven't got enough to stack even more (not wven 3 months).

Very happy, as I found Prime to be great value @$59 pre year, and even @ $79, I would have still paid. 2 year for free makes it even sweeter deal.

                        • @WalterBiH: Awesome! I find value in Amazon Prime as well. Enjoy.

    • +8

For me, the fact I can order something at 9pm, 'free delivery' and get it the next morning is enough for me to keep them. I also just buy whatever I need from Amazon, even if the price is the same, because their return policy is great.

      • +1

I’m not saying it’s not worthwhile for some I.e. those who use gaming, music etc. I feel like they are playing a marketing trick in Aus with the “next day delivery”, only available on a handful of items (usually not ones that you are getting any savings on). I live within 5km of the CBD of Melbourne and 9 times out of 10 my next day delivery is delayed by a day or so.

        • I live within 5km of the CBD of Melbourne and 9 times out of 10 my next day delivery is delayed by a day or so.

so still a week faster than australia post :)

          • @SBOB: True, also when you get a mild heart attack after getting the “your order has been dispatched by our delivery partners CouriersPlease” email , considered a win if it ever shows up

      • +1

I like that if I need another cardboard box to store old coats or whatever in I can just order a 90 cent candy bar and the box shows up the next day.

    • -8

So true. Cancelled it right away after they announced the price hike. This price hike is just the start. They are on the pathway to ripping us off.

      • +1

Cancelled my amazon turkey after price hikes to nearly $4 from 70 cents.

      • Mate it's been $6.99 for as long as I can remember, so was bound to happen. Free deliveries are great and not that cheap, the streaming is a bonus.

Shame it went up that much but whatever.

I just changed to annually for $59/y Before the price hike, thanks for the reminder.

  • +1

Maybe is just to make you feel better after prime cost jumped to $79.

    • +1

      Not increased yet

    • new price will apply from June 28, 2023.
I should have waited a bit before switching to annual but not stressing over two months.

  • +3

Friendship between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck is just awesome.

  • +1

    They increased membership by $20.

    • pay a year now and save $2 a month for next year and no price increase.

  • Definitely recommend the movie

    Another OzMovie

    • +1

OzBargain is going head to head with JustWatch now

  • +3

Saw this a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic movie, even for someone like me who doesn't know a damn thing about basketball, Nike or Michael Jordan.

  • +1

Ok that makes me feel slightly better about the $20 fee hike. Just only slightly mind you.

    • +5

Given your voting history, how about simply unsubscribing from these?

      • -2

If these alerts could also be posted in a suitable forum spot then I could unsubscribe and easily find them when I'm searching for TV guide updates?

        • Except you'll notice you're in the minority with your views.

It actually seems rather sad, anyone still coming to these subs posts just to downvote them, after how long they've been getting posted

          • -2

@spackbace: I have no problem with my view currently being in the minority.

Do you think these count as worthwhile SUB posts?

            [Kayo, SUB]

Round 8 Carlton Blues v Brisbane Lions Fri, 05 May, 7:00 pm

Round 8 Geelong Cats v Adelaide Crows Sat, 06 May, 2:00 pm
Round 8 Gold Coast Suns v Melbourne Demons Sat, 06 May, 4:20 pm
Round 8 GWS Giants v Western Bulldogs Sat, 06 May, 7:10 pm
Round 8 Fremantle Dockers v Hawthorn Hawks Sat, 06 May, 7:25 pm
Round 8 Port Adelaide Power v Essendon Bombers Sun, 07 May, 1:00 pm

Round 8 North Melbourne Kangaroos v St Kilda Saints Sun, 07 May, 4:00 pm

I don't understand how any of these can be counted as a Deal, Coupon, Voucher, Discount or Freebie?

            • +2

@ultimatefreq: If you want to post it, post it and let the community decide. That's exactly what's happening here, and has been in the past, and the mod team even have you a handy tag that you can choose to unsubscribe from.

Who knows, maybe it's finally time for you to post your first deal post after 7 years, how good would that be!

  • Let’s hope John Wick 4 is released soon for streaming. I need to watch that again!

    • +1

But tell me, when he rolled all the way back downstairs did you say to yourself oh ffs this is never going to end 😂

      • Spoiler alert.

      • +1

I was actually thinking of that Simpsons episode where Homer failed to jump over the ravine on Bart's skateboard and fell all the way to the bottom, gets retrieved, loaded into the ambulance then the ambulance crashes into a tree and Homer falls out the back and all the way down the ravine again :D

    • +2

John Wick 4 is coming to Prime Video on May 23 so in just about three weeks.

  • -1

No wonder they had to increase the prime membership by $20.

  • Nice cant wait!

  • -1

Why has no one put up the 2 greatest Netflix and Amazon Docs . Voyeur and Pharma Bro .
Likewise I get a bargain from Foxtel every time I watch a AFL match that I pay for .
Its crazy the way bargains come nowadays .

  • +2

Dogma is still the best Affleck/Damon movie.

    Good Will Hunting is overrated.

  • -1

I fail to understand why society worships (and massively rewards) somebody whose only skill is putting a ball through a hoop. Surely people who create technological breakthroughs deserve the approbation.

    • Yeah, if only those poor tech industry pioneers like Gates, Zuckerberg, Musk etc got the financial rewards they deserved.

    • Oh this is simple. And before explaining it, lets be clear the people we should worship are the volunteers and lowly paid working jobs such as disability support. But the reason we idolize MJ and actors and singers is simply that they are successful. Both famous but mainly financially successful. Its the demigods of capitalism.
Keeps the dream alive for the poor. They delude themselves that its possible to achieve fame and glory and power in our society.

  • So many people complain about prime cost when it's already so much cheaper than the US. And they pay in US dollars on top! If Amazon was gonna do an equivalent swap, we'd be charged $250 a year for prime seeing how worthless our currency is.

It's kinda like seeing the idiots in France fight their government over retirement age of 64 and realising Australia is already at 67…

    • $268/year actually (yes, to those at home, they actually pay US$14.99/month = AU$22.33/month)

    • +3

Amazon was gonna do an equivalent swap, we'd be charged $250 a year for prime seeing how worthless our currency is.

      but the services arent equivalent.
We dont get anywhere near the extent of services or product availability as they do in the US

  • Available now.

    • Nice. It shall be tonights entertainment

    • Was available at 10am
      ;)

  • +1

    arrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

  • Unreal movie! And you’ve just sorted my Friday night sir

  • Nice watching it tonight

  • Ten seconds into the movie I knew this would be the divorced Dad movie of the Summer!

Some of the best actors in the industry coalesce their raw talent and centuries of combined experience into an easy 5⭐ for anyone that likes cheap suits, middle-aged men screaming over budgets and Ben Affleck's bare feet.

    Worth a watch!

Seemingly still visible after following the instructions. Are 'highlighted deals' not capable of being hidden?

Not sure how a streaming service acquiring a new title is a deal, but what do I know…
