FREE SitePoint Web Design eBook + Online Photoshop Course

231

I already have a copy of the 2nd edition of this book (I paid $$$ for it). It is a great book with beautiful visual examples that clearly illustrate the concepts.
Today only, from dealfuel.

EDIT:
it seems that this deal is still being offered today. I've updated the expiry date accordingly, but it will no doubt end today so be quick!

EDIT 2:
Deal still appears to be going. Removed "TODAY ONLY" from the title.

    got a direct link? :)

      • no, he means a direct link to the PDF, so that people don't need to surrender their details

Even if I had it, I wouldn't publish it. Writing a book takes a lot of effort. Writing a good book like this takes even more.

Finding unlicensed copies of e-books is not hard, but it's also unethical.

You always have the option of ignoring this deal if you don't like its terms, and I completely understand your reluctance to hand over your details. For what it's worth, they do send you some promo emails (in my experience) but after you unsubscribe they no longer do so.

        • So what is the difference in registering, downloading, unsubscribing than just downloading it while it's provided for free?

        • You can do that.

In your example, you would be complying with copyright law (i.e. complying with the license that the publisher has granted you).

The other would be breaking copyright law (and ozbargain's terms of use). In Australia, that can land you with a $60k fine.

Glad I'm not in Aussie then ;)

        • Where are you? I'm no lawyer, but I believe copyright law is very similar internationally. Of course the penalties for infringement would vary.

      Give me a sec.

      • thx :)

      • Cheers, seems to work for me!

        • No problem. Don't forget to vote for the deal!

Given that this link is acually sitepoint's (?), it's probably legal (although again: I am not a lawyer).

But it's certainly against the spirit in which the deal is offered.

    Don't bother

The sitepoint books are all less than fantastic. And who the hell wants to be upsold a shitty photoshop course?

It's business tactics like these that muddy the sitepoint brand and it's credibility.
That they reduce to grubby deals like this should tell you all you need to know about the quality of their content.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. However, I think you've misunderstood: the photoshop course is free as part of the deal (no up-selling).

Just to provide some balance, I personally have bought many of their books. I have no affiliation with sitepoint, other than that I recommend some of their books (such as this one) to my students.

Here are some reviews of this particular book on amazon.com . If you don't like it, feel free to add your own.
